CAMPAIGN TWENTY-FOUR – THE WEST
New for T73
Noble House rules have
been added – please take a look at these here.
New Spreadsheet
for the Renaissance has been created – this can be found here and must be used
from now on.
Some
tinkering with the Religious
Order rules.
I’m going back to standard
movement rules – sigh – as it is just taking too much time to rewrite these.
Please continue to give your orders in year chunks though – The newly created spreadsheet
should help with this
New for T59
Paths to victory: There are several options open to a player when an NPN has been defeated
Dealing with hordes: Hordes can be dealt with a number of ways rather than just an outright battle. These are
You can also use a combination of the above. If the horde
becomes a FA or A, you can direct its attacks or its path of migration.
New for T57
Non-player rules update: I’ve updated the NPN
rules to fit better with the Lord’s system. Please check them out.
New for T53
Restrictions on Royal Marriages: Due to the
complications arising from these rules only K, H or P leaders can benefit from
a Royal Marriage. Members of the Royal Family that have not come into play are
not considered eligible. Also, Primate, Order and Secret Empire positions are
not eligible for marriage bonuses. These are meant to be diplomatic
arrangements between sovereign states.
New for T52
East – West Split: I’m going to try to
split the East and the West parts of the game so that I can process the orders
quicker – don’t know if or how it will work yet but lets
see if it’ll happen
New for T51
No Orders: If I don’t get any orders in for a
position and the player doesn’t answer my emails then I’ll put the position
back to a NPN and put aside the players cash (if any) until they pick it or
another nation up again.
New for T50
Request Royal Marriage: Used to ask a NPN
nation for a bride for one of your Princes or a suitor for one of your little
Princesses. Cost is 6AP, Charisma based. The leader doesn’t have to be in the
NPNs capital but if he isn’t then he needs to be in your homeland/capital.
New for T49
Naval Reaction and Blockade: Naval Reactions can
only occur when there is action in a Sea Zone that the fleet is based at. The
fleet has to be based from a port and not the Sea Zone. Also, the Reaction can
only occur when your own lands or those of an ally benefiting from a Defensive
Pact marriage bonus are attacked. It also applies to any merchant fleets you
operate through the Sea Zone in the case of piracy. Naval Blockade’s only work if your fleet is
based in the same Sea Zone as the target port and you spend all (every single
one) of your APs in the blockade. The fleet must be based from a port and not a
Sea Zone.
New for T48
The use of fleets for Reaction and mitigating
the effects of Pirates: My understanding has now changed since we GMs have had some
discussion on the list. The use of Reaction has been explained on the Wiki and
Patrol is no longer used in the Base Rules.
Reaction
Trade Route Escorts
Updated NPN and Primacy rules: Yep, been tinkering again but I feel a almost serene sense of satisfaction with my latest offering. See what you think.
Added the ability to hire mercenary captain when there is no mercenary company available: See the mercenary tables
New for T47
Improved cultivation at TL5: If a nation has reached the dizzy heights of TL5 than it can benefit from improved cultivation. You can Improve a cultivated homeland region from 2GPv to 3GPv, or any other controlled cultivated region from 1GPv to 2GPv. This is a level one megalithic construction.
New for T46
NPNS: I’ve tweaked the NPN and Primacy/Order rules a
little to make them fit better with the 24 game. I’ve also reduced their overall
RRV to make diplomacy easier.
New for T45
New Rivers: I’ve added in some new possible rivers
onto the map. These are rivers that were once passable by light traffic
(remember Cogs cannot travel on rivers) and have now become silted up. You can
dredge a stretch of the river (along one region border edge) as a 0.5 level
project.
Gripes:
Agro as
conversion – this has restrictions (see 2.11.5.3) which I will be enforcing
from now on.
Rivers can
only support light ships – as far as I know Cogs cannot travel on rivers. This
also includes Cogs built for trade.
New Primates: We have two new Primate positions this
turn. Jumal Skyfather,
which is an Estonian god and the Coptic Church based out of Axum.
New for T44
Minor islands and City States: I’ll be allowing minor
islands (Corfu, Jerba, Wight etc)
and city states to be used as locations from T44. Just let me know the
rationale behind why you want it separate and if reasonable I’ll add it in.
Once they are created as locations, they obey all the rules of islands etc.
However, their Gpv cannot go above 0.
Flooding: The last few turns have seen a massive
increase in the amount of flooding that has occurred. It appears that the years
are getting warmer and wetter. As a result of this some of the minor rivers on
the map are once again becoming passable to river traffic.
Denmark: Following on from the Minor Islands stuff, you
can see that Denmark is now separated out to Jutland and Syaland
(Zeeland).
Announcements
and items of note
General Stuff: Please use my Paypal account (stephenbrunt@yahoo.co.uk)
for all Lords’ 24 payments. If you cannot use this facility then please let me
know and I will see what I can do about filtering US funds to my account. I may
also stop using the throneworld email address due to
the mass of spam I’m getting!
Order Form: Please use the standard excel order form
from now on. I’ll update the site with a link
to it next week when I get some time. This is important as it helps me process
the turn more quickly. THIS IS NOW MANDATORY.
Non-Payment: some of you still owe
me some cash. Although it may come as surprise that this is not my main source
of income, I see it only polite that you pay for the occasionally night out.
So, if you’re under zero next turn I’ll not process you orders.
Version 6: Lords 24 uses version 6 of the basic rules
The Map: The map now includes
India as well as Europe, Central Asia and Africa. I’ve greyed out repeated
areas on the maps to make my life easier. However, this means some player
nations are split across more than one map. I may increase the size of the main
map but I’ll have to think on this.
Tithes and Tribute: I think these are
automatically updated by the stats program, so no need to declare them in your
orders.
Control
of the Papacy and Religious Orders: In Lords 24 we will not always have
a player Pope (or Caliph etc for that matter) and the
following rules are used to determine which player faction controls the Pope’s
actions, Papacy Rules.
I’ve also added some stuff about gaining support from their armies

Tiroman IV,
Caliph of the Akramids
|
Once more the great city of Seville grew in size as the Iberian prosperity continued. Madiera was also to grow and its great walls replaced. The Caliph ensured the security of the realm by improving the fortifications of most of his cities as well as the great citadel in Tunisia. More men were recruited into the army to offset the losses due to disease and desertion. With the success in converting Liguria to Islam in the years previous, Akramid missionaries continued to proselytise in the Ligurian lands but the remaining Christians were reluctant to convert. Diplomacy in the Caliphate lands was unsuccessful as Salamanca, Zirid, Badajoz and Santiago resisted the efforts of the Caliph’s envoys. |

Ahmad Al-Amaan, Emperor of the Egypts
|
The Emperors was content to
rule from Egypt with his wife Maaarifa. Vast sums
were invested in the Egyptian universities and apparatus of the state and
gold was made available for the madrasas and mosques. Maaarifa
was to provide the Emperor with another son after Saqeef. Ahmad dispatched Uwaiz
to Kurman where a marriage was arranged for the
Princess Benazir and tribute gained from the city. Coptic priests were busy
in Funj and the region reverted to Christianity due
to their efforts. |
Usama-Yoruba Onium of Ibo

Bamadi, Oni of Ibo
|
The Onium continued to progress in its fertile and prosperous corner of Africa. Free from the troubles of the world, Bamadi was able improve the lives of his subjects and oversaw the growth of Ijebu, Bekwai, Akan, Jumagi and Gorouol. Prince Bunta was dispatched to gain more support from the province of Kwararafa, assisted by the Enogie Kin’Wala, he was able to gain a promise of aid in times of conflict. King Bamadi was to discover that the Ogboni had permeated throughout the Onium and controlled many aspects of life for ordinary Iboans. Sadly, his young wife Opuntu died in childbirth along with the baby, leaving Bamadi still without a direct heir. |

Naj Muhammad, Sultan of the Buwayids
|
More gold and resources were poured into the cities and province of the Sultanate as Naj Muhammad continued to enjoy the riches and benefits of his victories over the Syrians and Persians. Trade was established throughout the Tigris and Euphrates and yet more wealth was gained by the Sultan. Other than the continued efforts of Kafar Jassan in Raqqa - where he was to gain a full alliance from the city, the Sultan was content to enjoy the prosperity. He was confident in the abilities of his two generals, Ibin Adai in Syria and Aied Al’Jafar in Persia to keep the Sultante secure from invaders. |

Quteb, Khan of Khwarzim
The Khan ruled from his Court
in Khwarzim and married from the local dynasty.
Sadly, his new wife was unable to provide an heir and was to die from
complications during childbirth in 1401. Over five thousand men were given to
Sadu to command and the wily diplomat was
dispatched to Tabriz to improve relations with the Azeri city. Sararo was to
take command of five thousand cavalry and travelled north to the lost
province of Saksiny. Luckily for the general, the Cossacks had
left a small and insignificant garrison in the province and he was able to
persuade them to rejoin the Khanate; especially
after the hand of the princess was offered in offered to sweeten the deal.
Rumours of the dreaded criminal gangs led by the Al’Balat
min Thalatha were investigated by Abdul in Khwarzim and although their presence was known the wily
general could find no hard evidence. |
The Emir of Aden shipped an army of sixteen thousand men over to his holdings in the Chalbi Emirate where the Emir augmented the forces with a further four thousand men. The aim was to liberate Djibuti and Berbera from the Ogaden but the Emir of the Ogaden Tribes was quick to react to the invasion with his massive force of sixty thousand horse. Despite some initial gains, the Adenese forces were outflanked and cut down by the tribesmen. The Emir pulled his forces back to Zeila but not without losing half his men in the rout.

Louis, Regent of France

The Regent Louis continued to rule in the name of the boy-king Philippe and was to increase his own dynasty with the birth of three children during his tenure at the Paris court. Elsewhere, Louis was content to see to the realm’s security and prosperity. |

Duke Carlo II Martello of House Durazzo, Prince of
Salerno
|
Nearly seven thousand Lancieri were raised in Vincencia for the Duc di Amalfi whilst in Ravenna, the Duc di Benevento force was augmented by a large number of heavy infantry. Duke Carlo was more suited to directing affairs from his court in Naples than commanding armies as his many years of studious investigations of Salernese history had left him feeble and not without a few unsavoury habits. However, the recent Moslem incursions into Liguria needed to be dealt with and so the Duke made the journey back from Sicily to Rome where he sought an audience with the Pope. The Duc di Amalfi had left command of his forces to Benevento before rushing to Rome to assist Carlo. It was his assistance that enabled Duke Carlo to gain the ear of the Pope and hopefully stir the Primate into action against the Moslems. With the disintegration of Liguria, Duke Carlo was quick to take advantage by dispatching the Marchese di Verona to Savoy and then onto Tuscany. The able della Scalla was to procure letters of support from both the Savoyards and the Tuscans thus enabling Duke Carlo to succeed where his more martial forebears had failed. The Comte di Urbino had travelled to Savoy to support della Scalla through more indirect means however his attempts to contact Christian enclaves in Liguria met with little success. The Duc di Andria commanded the Salernese fleet out of Naples and set sail to scour the Ligurian coast. Unfortunately the Duc was a less than able commander and even thought the Ligurians had met his fleet with nearly fifteen thousand troops, di Andria still attempted to complete the raid. There could only be one outcome given Hector’s prowess in the field and the Duc limped back to Naples with no booty and twenty ships burnt or captured. |

Sigismund, King of the Germans
|
Sigismund, King of the Germans, continued to smooth relations with the Lyonnaise, spending these years in the province with the German army. He had left Count Frederick to administer the realm before Heinrich was dispatched to the rich port of Cannes where the Count was able to establish an alliance with the city’s ruling house; an act aided by the marriage of Sigismund to a young princess from that house. The Magyars threw off the yoke of German control and allied themselves with the Hungarians. |

Linnea I, Queen of Orkney and the Isles
|
The royal woes of the Northmen continued as the popular King Rolf was to die of a fever in 1398, shortly before his wedding day. The Princess Linnea was next in line and was proclaimed Queen in the autumn of that year. Surprisingly, there was little dissent to Queen Linnea’s coronation and all remained peaceful in the Islands. The Princess had been in negotiations with the Orkneyjar merchants before Rolf’s demise and had time to settle those affairs before taking the throne. In Iceland, the city of Thingvellir grew in size and its walls replaced. Further West, the Orkney priests had established a Preceptory in Nordheim for the Hammer but in the East they had little success in converting the Pagans of Musa. Earl Wotan arrived in Caithness in early 1398 along with Birgitta amid great pomp and ceremony as the House of Caithness was to provide a groom for the soon to be Queen. Sadly Birgitta would not last the year due as see died in the winter. Wotan however, was able to persuade the Caithness nobility to support the Orkney cause. The Naskapi chief, Innu Spirit-Speak travelled to Caranook to preach the teaching of Christ to the Micmac; assisted by Tiancourt, Brother of Le Marteau Order. |

Geoffroi, Hammer of God
|
Missionaries poured into the Jumali lands and continued to convert the pagans of Kymia and Viipuri. Geoffroi was content to rule from Kirkval and oversaw the coronation of the new Queen Linnea. Brother Constantin was dispatched to Hordavil in Hordaland where he was able to raise an Oratory for the Order with the assistance of Brother Benedict. Brother Clovis was tasked with defending the Order’s citadel in Kirkval but was to fall ill in the spring of 1398 and die a short time afterwards. |
(Orthodox Civilized Open Empire)
Fedor, King of the Rus
|
The Great Wall or Velikaya Stena of the Rus was extended along the border between Atelzuko and Pereaslavl to protect the Rus against any horde threat from the East. King Fedor was to rule from Kiev and was blessed with two young sons by Queen Aelia. Count Peter had little success in his diplomatic mission to Perograd a failure compounded by the death of Brother Andrew of the Vladimir Order in the spring of 1398. Count Stephen was to take command of the army in Atelzuko after the untimely death of the popular Marshal Vanya in 1398 from food poisoning after eating some undercooked poultry; no foul play was suspected. |

Romanos, Emperor of East Rome
|
The walls of Colchis were improved, given its location to the east of the Empire and some of the Gecokondus of northern Constantinople cleared. The Emperor remained in Malta where his continued presence ensured the support of the Knights. He left Prince Michael to rule from Constantinople after the young prince had taken a wife from the Merchant House of Byzantium; securing ties with the burgeoning business enterprise. Michael’s bride, Zoe Makrembolite was escorted to the palace by Duke Demetrious after he had been in close negotiations with her father Anastasius. |
The Order of St Vladimir
(Roman Catholic Civilised

Eric, Grandmaster of the Order of St Vladimir
|
Grandmaster Eric took control
of the Order’s forces and patrolled their holdings around Kiev while Brother Georgi was garrisoned in the Kiev itself. Brother Anatoli spent these years in Buda-Pesht where he was able to vastly increase
the status of the Vladimirians within the Hungarian nation after being joined
by Brother Dmitry from Kiev. . |
