General Information:

From now on, I will be extra strict on sea travel. Leaders will need to have ships to travel across water. (You can have more than one leader on a single ship)

Also, NPNs will have a more active role in managing their domestic affairs. I am doing this in hopes of making some of the smaller positions more playable in the future.

Takeda Shogunate

Shinto | Seafaring | Tech 4
Shogun Nareshi
Diplomacy: Hokkaido(nt), Akita(nt)

There was successful diplomacy as safe passage was earned in Hokkaido and Akita, while the Shogun continued the economic buildup in various cities. It seems that the Shogun was not finished with the societal reforms, and has continued to make changes towards openness. It seems the feudal reforms were just the precursor of much larger changes. During this time of change, the Shinto missionaries were ineffective mainly due to general resistance within society.

Emperor Hu Song continued to build his army, adding another nine thousand troops of heavy cavalry to his command, many field forts in several regions, and also built walls around several of his cities. He also continued to build up the merchant fleets and the societal reforms. Kang Chou patrolled the yangtse and young Hu Tii ruled in preparation of his eventual installment as Emperor. However, all was not happy in the empire, as uncle Hu Tii died, as well as General Wang Shih and the Governor of Taiping. With the loss of the Governor, the region's military alliance was reduced to an economic one.

Emperor Lui II mobilized his entire army in Shentung, adding 20 more groups of seige engineers to his army. While there he was preparing for attack, part of which involved sending in spies into Honan to check out their defenses. Unfortunately for the Emperor, there were more Field Forts in Honan than he originally planned for, so he decided to stay put and rethink his strategy.

In other developments, the free city of Shaolin decided to tie its fortunes to the Empire in response to increased military activity in the area. The Mongols also paid a visit to collect tribute in the form of gold and grain.

Khan Takata
Diplomacy:

The Mongol horde awoke from its slumber and swiftly rode south. It wasn't long before they met fellow nomads in Uighur. Takata approached the Khan of the Uighurs offered them glory if they joined his Mongols to ride across Asia to rape and pillage. The Uighur Khan let out a loud belly laugh at this offer, believing the Mongols to be lazy and ill prepared. However, the Uighur Khan offered a counter proposal. If the Mongol army could defeat the Uighur army in open combat, he would accept the Mongol offer to ride out and conquer. So both armies spent the night before feasting and preparing for battle, and at dawn, the two armies would meet on the battlefield. The Mongols outnumbered the Uighur almost 3 to 1, and were better equipped. The battles were fierce, lasting several weeks and much blood was spilled, but in the end, the Uighur Khan capitulated, his army crippled. As promised, the Khan joined the Mongols and would ride out with them, despite the bitterness he felt from defeat. The horde continued its journeys, and ended up in Kin, where another band of travelers had gathered. Unfortunately, they had little interest in leaving their homes.

Emperor Zohra
Diplomacy:

Emperor Zohra continued the trend of urbanization as several cities grew and developed. He also sent a small expedition force to explore the East Monsoon Drift more carefully, and they returned after a few years with what seemed like accurate charts of those waters.

However, Zohra's main concern was diplomacy, specifically his empire's relations with the Zoroastians of Persia. Several communications were sent between them, and the result was a royal marriage between Zohra's son Ilore and Sephia, the beautiful princess of Persia. So, Zohra began preparations, and ordered 100 of India's finest warships to be built so that Prince Ilore could travel to Persia in style. Once all the preparations were finished, Ilore set sail for the city of Ur with Lord Randir (who would later marry into the Royal family after falling in love with Zohra's daughter Sursuti) and Traj Yuvaraj, who would preside over the marriage ceremony. Ilore, had a little surprise in store for the Persians however, he had planned for a most elaborate wedding gift spending over 500 gold pieces so that the wedding ceremony would be glorious. This was in addition to the Fortress of Agni( he would build for the Persians in the city of Ur, dedicated to the Vedic God: Agni as a symbol for a marriage between Hindu and Persian lineage, as well as closer ties between the Zoroastian and Hindu faiths (making them more tolerant of each other). Such extravagance seemed to embarrass the Shah of Persia, whose Dowry of 25gp seemed rather insignificant compared to the gifts Ilore had presented. Needless to say, Princess Sephia was mightily impressed, and was eager to travel to India and experience these riches with her new husband.

(Agni is one of the most important of the Vedic gods. He is the god of fire, the messenger of the gods, the acceptor of sacrifice. Agni is in everyone's hearth; he is the vital spark of life, and so a part of him is in all living things; he is the fire that consumes food in peoples' stomachs, as well as the fire that consumes the offerings to the gods. He is the fire of the sun, in the lightening bolt, and in the smoke column, which holds up the heavens. The stars are sparks from his flame.
When Agni is described in anthropomorphic form, he sometimes has two faces, which are smeared with butter. He has seven fiery tongues and sharpened, golden teeth. He is red in color, with black eyes and wild, black hair. He has seven arms and three legs, and seven rays of light emanate from his body. He either rides on a ram, or on a chariot, pulled by goats or sometimes parrots. Agni loves all his worshipers equally, and so is loved in turn by all of them. He visits everyone's hearth, no matter if they are rich or poor. He is the mediator between the gods and mankind.

Emperor Adhamba orders his people to add to the extensive road network, and invested heavily in the cities of Meshentra and Melindara. He also sent resources to Pegu's cultivation efforts in Africa, completing the Kedah project. Apart from that, the Hindu diplomats extended their reach to the borders of the Hunan by retaining tributary status from the mountain tribes of Tz'uk'an. Emperor Adhamba also managed to lower the religious fervour of his nation by a significant margin.

Zoroastrian Church

Zoroastrian | Civilized | Tech 4
Patriarch Tethys
Diplomacy: (too many revolts to list)

Everything was going well for the Zoroastrian Church as it continued to expand and convert the pagans of Arabia. Also, the road north from Mesopotamia was extended to Kuwait. Unfortunately, Patriarch Tozsher passed away, only a few years after Aaruhman's death. This caused a great deal of disorder in the Church. Brother Distan, who was in the North with all 25 thousand of the heavy elite religious cavalry, decided to march the army back to Mesopotamia to seize the Patriarchy. However, Tethys was there waiting for his return, and the army remained loyal to him, essentially serving poor Distan's head on a platter for his betrayal. Yet, this was only the beginning of Tethys' troubles upon his assuming the Patriarchy. In the East, many religious sites closed down for lack of logistical support of the Church, while in the West and Arabia, a new conservative movement erupted in a schism. This new movement called themselves the Parsee Zoroastrians, and they called the Holy City of Mecca their center of worship. The Parsees had now influence in Aden, and their followers stretched all the way to the city of Tyre and beyond.

Sassanid Empire of Persia

Zoroastrian | Civilized | Tech 5
Xerxes, ShahanShah Eran Ud Aneran
Diplomacy:

Xerxes, ShahanShah Eran Ud Aneran, continued to rule his empire and expand his military capabilities with the addition of thirty-seven thousand troops, mostly heavily armed, and just over half of them on horse. But the big news for the Persians was the Royal Weddings that were planned, four in total. Sephia's marriage into the Asamakaran Empire in the city of Ur was a smashing success, although Xerxes was significantly upstaged by counterpart, and he was rather surprised and embarrassed by that turn of events (see Asamakara). Ginna's marriage to the Prince of Aden also went smoothly, the two making a lovely couple, and all ceremonies were held in the capital of the Sultanate of Aden. Another engagement with the Ulanians was also celebrated, as Tarsa married the Ulanian Prince Temukin.

The Empire of Kara-Khitai

Zoroastrian | Civilized | Tech 4
Emperor Moltke
Diplomacy: Bactria [Axanja(revolts)], Balkash(t, revolts), Ferghana(revolts), Kashmir(revolts) [Parapavura(revolts)], Kazakh(revolts) [Urgench(revolts)], Tadzik(revolts), Turkmen(revolts), Uzebek(revolts)

Sabatai went to great lengths to develop the economy of Kuldja, making sure that there were farmers on all the fields that were now cultivated, and that they had ample irrigation. Axanja received new public works and also grew in size, as did the port of Urgench.

However, all was not well, as Sabatai's eldest son fell ill to an unknown disease and died at the age of 33. Then, Sabatai himself fell ill of a similar affliction and perished as well. This struck up vicious arguments amongst the nobility as to whether the entire Royal Family was plagued. In fact, it was general Moltke who argued this case the loudest, and his attempts to spread fear were successful. He convinced the army to side with him and eradicate the Royal Family before this plague was to spread. Unfortunately, this fear-mongering caused several regions and cities to declare their independence and stem the flow of travelers to limit the possibility of the plague spreading. As it turned out, there were no more reports of strange deaths, so either Moltke was correct and acted just in time to save the people of the Empire, or, there was no plague to begin with, and Moltke just spread fear to claim the Emperor's throne. Either way, there was a new dynasty as the old one is no more.

The Sultanate of Aden

The order received more gold and food from the Eastern Roman Empire as Heraclius took command of the navy and army to help the Eastern Roman Empire in its defense preparations. Miklos and Kristos would take up the quest to find the secret of the Greek Fire, and after a great deal of difficulty, they finally complete the Quest! Miklos wrote the following message to Heraclios upon discovering its capability:

"This was the fashion of the Greek fire: it came on as broad in front as a vinegar cask, and the tail of fire that trailed behind it was as big as a great spear; and it made such a noise as it came, that it sounded like the thunder of heaven. It looked like a dragon flying through the air. Such a bright light did it cast, that one could see all over the camp as though it were day, by reason of the great mass of fire, and the brilliance of the light that it shed."

Such a discovery, which would now be wielded by the Grandmaster of the Order in battle, rallied the order and attracted the awe of the Kristos Pantocrator. The other Order of the Orthodox Christians, proclaimed their intention of following Grandmaster Heraclius into battle and wherever he would lead.

However, peace prevailed yet again. The Empire maintained strong relations with the Order of St. Georgios, sending them a lot of gold and food. The Orthodox Church also received some food to help them feed the masses. The Emperor's paranoia, which is actively fermented by his advisors, caused him to increase the tax rate significantly, causing much strain on the tradesfolk, merchants and farmers. Such aggressive taxation is sure to cause revolt if it lasts a long time.
