Lords
51: The Age of Awakenings
August
9, 2026 - Version 1.1
Story
Background:
In
2271 Earth Reckoning, one of several colossal vessels sent forth to
colonize the stars was struggling. It had been hundreds of years
since departure, now bits of the vessel were closed off due to breach
and damage to the power grid. They managed to find a twin star system
that had several planets within the habitable zone. It was not their
destination, but it was here in what they presumed was Alrai or the
void of space. The ship was unable to successfully land properly,
its survivors numbered less than 4000 within 50 years. Disease was
not an issue, it was the oxygen level and microbes which were not
friendly to human physiology. Something attached to the exterior of
the ship or onboard was equally devastating to some of the local mega
fauna. At first this happened near the crash site, then it spread
forth as humans did to gather resources and explore. Time passed,
and it passed. Millennium upon millennium went by, generation upon
generation.
Lords
of the Earth Introduction:
You
are the controlling power of a group of people who have survived and
thrived. Magic has taken root but not in what would be considered
high fantasy, at least not yet. Everyone has innate access which is
common throughout every family and village making things more
egalitarian than the history of Earth. What has now separated people
is how that magic has taken root in their beliefs and philosophy
related to their survival. Their families and ancestors began
attuning in to one element or another resulting in the 5 Elements.
These are both a type of magic and a belief system inherent in each
rising nation.
The rules modifications mostly center around
successful adjustments in other campaign settings, a lot of
conversations about Lords-Lite (a reduced rule set) and my own ideas.
In terms of the rules and stat sheets the Religious area has been
replaced with Beliefs of these 5 Elements. It is also not so robust
as to have Primacies, Orders, and so forth. Intel or Espionage as
the rules show have been removed.
Lords 51 originally had
races, each with its own rules practically, a subterranean map, and
other things. While interesting, these bogged down running the game
to the point where it was not possible for me to maintain any type of
pace and enjoyment factor for both the players and myself.
Newcomers:
Lords of the
Earth (LOTE) was created well over 30 years ago by Thomas Harlan.
Thomas wrote the Oath of Empire Series and other books. As far as
LOTE goes, at one point in time there were dozens of campaigns
running and hundreds if not thousands of people who played. Either
way, the rulebook is for reference when you first begin. It is not a
cover to cover read, doing that can be daunting. No one knows it all
regardless of how long they have played.
In addition to all of
this, I've added and or removed parts of the rules for this campaign
setting. Tools like Discord should help and there are some players
who are veterans of Lords of the Earth in general.
Rulebook:
The
Lords of the Earth webpage still has downloadable rulebooks. Google
Chrome seems to work best for this.

Lords
51 uses whatever 6.x.x version is there. There are two options. I
think one is black and white, the other color.
Thank
you, welcome and enjoy.
