THE WESTERN WAR
556 AD: As the winter snows melted, the Osmans continued their siege of Aachen, the Merovingian capital. The Khan patrolled the siege lines with his warriors. Constant patrols were maintained to prevent any forces slipping supplies into the city.
In early March such a patrol took the Khan, and his bodyguard through a hamlet near Aachen. As the Khan moved through the hamlet's square, arrows flew into the Osman ranks from the roofs of the thatched buildings. Timur was hit immediately. The arrow struck him in the shoulder. Several others missed and struck his nearby escort. The assassins were quickly silenced. Most were killed, others escaped, but two were captured. One a Merovingian, the other had the look of a celt, no one was sure though. Few in the area had ever had any dealings with the British. They were peasants, or minor nobility after all. The assassins were quickly executed and their heads piked before Aachen. Timur was only slightly wounded and within a few days was back on his feet.
In April Timur recieved reports that some of his sub Khans were receiving mysterious visitors in the dark of night. As Timur set out for the camps of his allies he was ambushed on the trail there. Arrows flew from a tree grove and several struck Timur before his bodyguard could react. As the suprised guards charged into the woods, Timur slowly slumped and fell off his horse. The great Khan was dead.
In the Avar camp word quickly arrived telling of the Khans death. Kublai, the Avar Khan, was pleased. Now his time had come, he would take control of the horde and move back across the Rhine. The Catholics had promised him much if he would do so.
The Avar road into the main tribal encampments. Jimuri had taken control of the Osman tribes and was in the process of receiving homage from the Bulgars and Cumans. A confrontation now took place. Kublai offered the Bulgars his vision of a great empire amongst the steppes, with promises of loot from the Catholics. Jimuri mocked him and said true warriors didn't accept mere promises of loot, they took the loot themselves. The two sides squared off. The majority of the Bulgars and Cumans sided with the Osmans. A small portion (15% of the Bulgars and about 30% of the Cuman) sided with the Avars.
In Aachen King Sigibert and the Merovingians watched in glee as the battle between the two steppe hordes raged out on the plains before the city. The battle raged and swirled all afternoon. The wild melee of the steppes was a far different style of war than the Merovinagians were used to, and had learned to their dismay the previous fall when King Pepin and most of the Frankish army had been destroyed.
As evening fell it became clear the Osmans had triumphed, though casualties were horrendous for both sides. 65,000 of the Osman faction had fallen. 106,000 of the followers of the Avars. The Avars retreated southeast across the Rhine into Alsace.
King Sigibert knew that if ever their was going to be chance to sneak the royal family out of Aachen, now was the time. Most of the Osman were off pursuing the Avar trying to kill them as they cross the Rhine. They eventually call off the pursuit as a combined Catholic navy comes into view.
Sigibert decides to send the royal family out in two groups. He took Queen Gilda and his 18yr old brother Harald. Prince Freidrich led the other group, which had most of the dynasties siblings. Prince Freidrichs group simply dissapeared and was never heard from again. The Kings group ran into a patrol in mid of night. The King ordered Harald to take the Queen and escape while he and his few henchmen try to hold of the patrol. The King is killed. Harald and the Queen barely make it to the Rhine where they are set upon. Harald is wounded and in the confusion the Queen is captured. Harald makes it across the river to safety in Gildengard where he recovers from his wounds. The Queen is raped and killed.
The rest of the year is uneventful. Aachen stays under siege.
557 AD: The spring and summer were uneventfull as the Osmans simply continued the siege. By fall the city could hold out no longer. They surrendered in September. The city was visciously sacked. The Cathedral in Aachen was looted. The priests were dragged out into the streets. They were then forced to watch the nuns be raped. The priests were then burned alive. The region of Hainut then suffered a similar fate. The regions Cathedral met a similarly unholy end.
Also in September a Persian navy arrived in the Rhine. They sailed up the river heading toward Dijon. They were met by the combined Catholic navies. Merovingian, Danish, and Reget. The sides were of aout equal size. The Persians however had a large contingent of Infantry (marines) onboard. The battle raged for hours, each side desperate to prevail. In the end the Catholic navies were annihilated. All 130 warships of theirs were sunk. The Persians lost 65 vessels and 1,500 marines.
558AD: The Osman continue south and smash into Champagne. The region is looted and the Church again suffers depraved looting and killing. This takes most of the summer. By late summer the horde smashes into Burgundy. The region is heavily defended by a series of field forts. After an intense struggle the region is pacified. The Persian navy blockades the capital of Dijon. Persian troops (Heavy Cav, Infantry, and Siege engineers) totalling 16,000 are unloaded joining the Osmani. They winter before the walls of the Burgundian capital.
559 AD: The Persians decide they dont have time for a long siege. They also notice Dijons walls are small and not very strong. The Persians lead an assault, they storm the walls. The Osmani follow inspired by the courage of the Persians. The defenders put up a valiant struggle but the numbers of the horde and their Persian allies are simply to much and the city falls. It is sacked, and unlike Aachen it is also burnt, destroying it completely. The church again is the victim of the hordes deprevations. Lyonnais is the next to feel the Osmani wrath. It and the church suffer the same fate.
560 AD: Provence is pacified, looted, and the unwalled
city of Marseille is sacked and burnt. The horde over runs the region of
Languedoc. Ending the year there.
THE KINGDOM OF REGET- Celtic Christian- Barbarian, Tech Lvl 4
King Lyr Marini
Diplomacy: None
King Lyr Marini gathered in his army. He was off to the continent to help Reget's allies. He was unsure of his future, things were looking desperate. He hoped that he could join his army to a allied army fighting the Osmans. Sadly no Catholic army took the field (SEE:THE WESTERN WAR) Instead he took his army to Denmark and garrisoned along Magnulf's Dyke.
Princess Efrddyl returned from missionary work in the Hebrides to take care of the day to day affairs of state.

The Church sent missionaries off to the Shetlands and the Hebrides. Abbeys were established amongst the Pictish peoples of northern Reget.

THE KINGDOM OF DENMARK-Roman Catholic-Barbarian, Tech Lvl 4
King Magnulf, the Olde Woman of Denmark
Diplomacy: none
A messenger had arrived in Odinsmunda with the Osmani response to the latest peace deal. The Roman Catholic offer to have the horde settle into the unoccupied regions of Bavaria were fair (in Catholic minds) and would allow a solid defense against future hordes. But the horde wished to control more. They asked for Southern Denmark, Eastern Merovingia and Eastern Burgundy. King Magnulf asked "Did they say anything else?"
The messenger had hoped to keep the last part to himself (as well as his head), but he shakenly reported, "Yes, your Majesty, he referred to you as an Old Woman, too scared to meet him on the battlefield."
A silence spread through the Danish throne room, as all
eyes watched the King. Slowly, a smile spread across his face and he broke
out in
laughter, "If the Osmani are not careful, they will see
how an Old Woman of Denmark can unman the most thick-headed Osman."
There began extensive building of fortifications throughout Denmark and preparations for a horde attack across Magnulf's Dyke. Just in case the Osmani decided to come North.
Kauyavia became completely Catholic. Magnulf was happy
his allies from Reget had brought their army over to help defend his lands.
He waited to see if the Osmani would come north. (SEE:

Only a few short months after the fleet left Shapur passed away. Thats when the Empires troubles began...
In the west, the disgruntled Orthodox populace saw it as a chance to gain their freedom. In Aleppo and Antioch the Persians and Zoroastrian church had garrisons that were much to large for the orthdox folk to gain their freedom. In Edessa the revolt took root and the region gained its independance. In the far north Georgia was also able to break away.
The real trouble came from the other side of the Empire. In the far east, near the edge of Persian rule, a leader rose to claim he was decended from the ancient line of Parthian Kings. Calling himself Artabanus V, this very charismatic leader soon had the east in open rebellion. Prince Hua Wia watched as his warriors marched along the dusty trail into Annam. Emperor Hu Tii II had entrusted him will all the Southern Dragon armies. Now he would do his best to live up to that trust and bring these southern lands into the Emperors holdings.
Champa Annam was quickly overun and pacified. The army then began preparing for the next stage. The main army would siege Tonkin (the Harbor was blockaded by a Drgon navy) while other groups moved out and continued the war. The Champa had reacted quickly, they marched north through Dai Viet, which allowed them passage when they saw the size of the Champa army.
Lord Chu of the Champa saw that his army was of equal size to the Dragon invaders. He also saw that the Dragon army was unprepared, pre occupied by the siege. Perhaps it was a trap though.
"shit!!!" cried Hua Wia " They can roll us up...but wait...why are they not pressing there advantage?" Hua Wia quickly organized his forces to face the Champa. The poor generalship of the Champa had caused them, and would cost them more shortly.
The battle began with the superior cavalry of the Dragon smashing the flanks of the Champan's. Champa has great quality Infantry but their cavalry is of very poor quality. So even though the Champan heavy infantry was getting the better of its Dragon counterpart, when their flanks were folded back the Infantry was cut off and surronded. It was a massacre. The battle could have been a close thing, but with such shoddy leadership from the Champa it was a disaster.
Tonkin falls to the Dragon after a short siege.
Lingnan also falls to the Dragon.
