THE KINGDOM OF REGET

King Lyr Marini

Diplomacy: None

Prince Urien travelled to Holland. There he took over the garrison duties of the region. His wife, the Danish princess Svanhvit accompanied him. They had a son in 553, and another in 555AD.

Princess Efrddyl, aided by missionaries, continued to bring the word of the Celtic faith to the Hebrides. Many souls were won for the church.

The King spent his time seeing to the day to day affairs of state. He was busy listening to a scribe detail protected tribute of the sheep herders in Lothian when news reached him of Powys's attact on his U'neil allies. Word also reached him that his youngest sister Adwen was a prisoner. She was married to the U'neil Prince Aengus. Aengus had been in the Highlands when word reached him of the Powysian treachery. Aengus headed for the court of Reget and asked for political exile. In exchange the Highlands would swear feality (NT status) to Reget. Aengus would swear to serve Lyr Marini.

THE KINGDOM OF POWYS

King Pwyll

Diplomacy: (after revolt-Laigin [nt])  (after Revolt- Mumu [nt])

King Pwyll sent his warlords off to war, he stayed behind to over see the Kingdom but he issued a proclemation:

"we beleive, and proclaim, that the U'Neil King's will has been subverted by evil advisors and that he may be held against his will. We intend to find and free him, our brother! We worry that sorcery may be at work; even if he appears on the battlefield himself, he is likely not in full control of his senses. Rise up ye U'Neil!! Save thy individual and collective souls by rescuing the captive King who has been absent these last 10 years"

The Warriors of Powys give a cheer and head off to war....

The "liberation" of the U'Neil

551 AD: Thefleet gathers and moves about gathering the army.

552 AD: The Forces of Powys gather and set sail for Laigin, there army was to large for thier fleet to carry in one trip so the first trip brought the best warriors. They landed in Laigin, a brief parly with the commander of Sihe Castle results in the Fortress throwing open its gates to the invaders. Laigin declares its independance. Griffidd spends the rest of the year negotiating with the Laigin rebels, they swear loyalty. The Fleet returns to Anglis for the rest of the Army.

Prince Llewelyn takes his forces south into Mumu, the region revolts as well. He spends the rest of the year negotiating and they too swear feality.

553 AD: Early spring arrives and the Powysian navy brings the last of the troops into Laigin. Prince Llewelyn heads northwest into Connaught. The region rejects his calls to revolt. A brief, but viscious, battle results and the Irish are annihilated.

Prince Griffidd heads into the Uneil homeland of Ulaid. King Fergus meets him in Battle and calls the Powysian's all kinds of nasty things, traitors being one of the more mild ones.

Heavily outnumbered and with no cavalry, the battle is short. Fergus is killed and the region pacified. Princess Adwen, the sister of the King of Reget, is taken into the "protection" of Powys and kept under guard.

THE KINGDOM OF DENMARK

King Magnulf

Diplomacy: Lausatia (nt)

The Danes, fearing Asiatic Hordes, began a massive construction project. Huge ditches and mounds of dirt were built the lenght of the Denmark-Holstein border. These defenses became known as Magnulf's Dyke.

The conversion of the pagans in Kauyavia continued as missionaries were sent into the area. At home a wave of Anti clericalism spread throught the land, no doubt a result of all the Religious infighting in the Catholic Church.

Lord Bjorn, at the head of 25 danish warships, hooked up with a Merovingian navy and sailed east. They were patrolling the Dvina -Dnepr river line. But so far from home and without any specific fording areas as a guide they never found the horde. Reports did reach them eventually that the Horde crossed way to the south, from Levidia to Atelzuko. Bjorn turned for home, he didnt know how to break the news to King Magnulf that he failed.

The Queen gave birth to a son in 553AD

While in Poland, Prince Frodi passed away. Ragnar, magnulf'sson was promoted to Prince in his place.

THE FALL OF BAVARIA

Prince Leodi gathered up thousands of Mercenaries. He then marched south. Next stop, Bavaria. Waiting to coordinate the attack with him was the Croat army of King Ptreskov.

The Danes attacked into Bavaria from the North, this attack drew the defenders of King Horsa north. The Bavarians were heavily outnumbered and began to fall back. Sandwhiched between the Danes and the Croats, the Bavarians died to the man.

The region was pacified and turned over to the control of the Croats. The Danes marched north into Bohemia, with the Bavarian King dead it didnt take much to get Bohemia to declare its independance.

Meanwhile the Burgundians, who had been rebeuilding their military after the blooduy fight in Liguria, marched the fresh army into swabia, the undefended region was quickly pacified.

The Croats looted and enslaved Bavaria, then proceded to march into Austria and do the same thing.

They pacified Tyrol as well. However when they marched back into Rijeka without leaving a Garrison, Tyrol revolted.

THE KINGDOM OF THE LOMBARDS

In Old Castile Lombrd colonist moved int and reclaimed the land.

Moving quickly, King Talorc moves into Anjou and easily crushes the rebels. He then travels back to Brest to rule. Lord Garf was left in Anjou to garrison the region.

THE OSMAN KHANATE

Timur Khan

Diplomacy: Thats for effeminate sod busters

THE OSMAN MIGRATION

551AD: Timur's people move quickly west. The Avar join the Osman horde. North of Kara Khitai the Scythians are completely absorbed. Still the horde presses west. At the northern end of the caspian sea the Bulgars are convinced to join the Osmans as allies. By Winters end they are camped on the Volga's eastern shore. The Ghuzz had wisely allowed the horde to pass through their lands.

552AD: The Osman cross the Volga and convicne the Cuman tribes between the volga and Dnepr to ally. The Dnepr is forded and the horde presses ever west. South along the Black sea shoreline then up through the depopulated lands that were enslaved by the Teutons. As winter comes on the horde stops and waits on the Eastern side of the Carpathian mountains.

553AD: The horde is slowed somewhat, finally, crossing the carpathians. Their pace quickened as they moved across the familiar steppes of carpathia and slovakia. In Austria the Osmans were granted guides (to speed up their pace) by the Croats, who were enslving the region. The Croats didnt have alot of choice, grant guides or get overrun. The Osmans wintered in Bavaria.

554AD: In spring, the horde marches north. Franconia is overrun. Without any royal troops, the peasant levies scatter fleeing for their lives and the horde demands tribute in the future and marches west into Alsace. Alsace has a frankish tribe, that had fled the plague in Lorraine, in it. They should ahve risked the plague. The tribe draws its wagons up into a circle and tries to make an improvised strong point. However this is no sue against the Asiatic hordes. Arrows rain down on the defenders as thousands upon thousands of horseman swarn overthe region. The defenders are whelmed. There were no survivors, man women, and child all preished. The Horde winters in Alsace. Timur spends his time occasionally looking west across the Rhine, soon spring would come.

Timur was nearly assassinated over the winter but the Merovingian assassin was caught and executed. A second assassin slightly wounded the khan and was able to get away. The wound wasnt serious though and Timur was sure he'd be ready for the spring campaign.

King Pepin was unsure if the Horde would come north into the new Merovingian homeland, or cross the Rhine into Hainut. Unsure he waited in Lorraine.

555AD: The Horde forces a crossing of the Rhine and marches into Hainut.

King Pepin, along with his heir Wilhelm, take the Merovingian army across the rhine bridge into Hainut. Arriving before the horde finishes its crossing they are able to choose an excellent battle site. The king sent word back to Aachen for Prince Sigibert to bring the Garrison out and help in the defense.

Before Sigibert arrived however, the lead elements of the Horde struck the Merovingian forces. Hoplessly outnumbered, Pepin was told by his scoutsthat  his  28,000 warriors were outbnumbered by atleast 10-15 to 1 and that Asiatic warriors were still crossing the river..no telling how many they were.

Pepin tries to fall back but is swarmed over. The Asiatic cavalry rides around his flanks and cuts him off from retreat. Sigbert see's this and falls back into Aachen before he is cut off as well.

The franks form squares and raise their shields as best they can. Arrows rain down on them, the sound of arrows thwacking against armor is everywhere. The Merovingians hurl their axes back and send a small volley of arrows as well. However the asiatics keep cricling the swuares peppering them. Prince Wilhem takes an arrow in the throat in mid morning. Dead before he realized what hit him.

By mid afternoon gaps begin to appear in the squares and the Asiatics send forward their heavy cavalry. The rip the now disordered squares to shreds. Pepin is hacked down in the center of his square, his banner falls at his lifeless feet.

Not a single frank from Pepins force escapes. Sigbert makes it safely back to the sactuary of Aachen's walls.

Timur wants to press the attack into other regions but decides its best to just surround Aachen and begin the siege. As winter comes on Aachen's future looks grim.

THE KINGDOM OF THE MEROVINGIANS

King Sigibert

Diplomacy: Thuringia (nt)

Things started well. The plague died out. Withbthis good news tribes were sent across into Lorraine. The land was settled by the royal clans which Pepin belonged to. Lorraine became the new homeland. Lords Hludwig and Dorf took the newly built Merovingian anvy to the wild lands of the east. Patrolling down the Dvina and Dnepr they were trying to stop any asiatic hordes from crossing. Th rivers simply cover to many crossing points (regions bording it) to effectivly patrol such a large area so far from a friendly base in unknown waters. They fail to intercept the crossing and return home. Pepin was angry. He was confident they couldnt reach his heartlands though. Little did he know they would be helpd along by moving through depopualted regions and having guides help them at several points. SEE: THE OSMAN MIGRATION

With the death of the King and heir, Sigbert takes power. But being under siege the outlying regions begin to grumble. Not so much that they reject Sigibert, but more out of fear. None rebel though. A worse tragedy is the fact that the entire royal family is now in Aachen, under siege.

Diplomacy:  Kin (nt)  Tumet (nt)

THE HSUING'NU WARS

Khan Liao Kao felt desperate times called for desperate measures. So with that in mind the Khan, his Ch'in allies and Prince Qarasha struck southwest into Lu'an. Even with the benefit of the Great wall, the small native army was swarmed over. The Khan and his h'in ally remain in Lu'An while Prince Qarasha strikes south into Yen, the Hsuing'nu nomadic army defeat the Yen army, but it was a very bloody affair. The Prince then took his remaining force south into shangtung to raid. His losses in Yen meant he was outnumbered by the Korean garrison so the prince made a hasty retreat. he visited the steppes regions of Kin and Tumet seeking allies before returning to Hsuin'nu.

Meanwhile King Ura, who was engaged in diplomatic talks in Bandao, sent his son, and heir, Prince Kim Ho west to Lu'an, when he heard of the Hsuing'nu invasion. The prince had a large force of cavalry, 18,000 warriors-6,500 of it heavy, and was eager to crush the upstart nomadic invaders. He was dismayed to find the region already under the invaders control. He was forced to engage an enemy, 12,000 strong, behind the Great walls defenses. He spent many days probing for weaknesses along the wall. He was met with constant vigileance by the defenders as they rained arrows down upon his scouts. As this continued day after day, the Korean prince began to feel they would enver be able to find a weak point. But then his scouts came back reporting there was a weak point, a lightly defended gate area, a hours ride along the wall. The Koreans strike the gate in the early hours before dawn, the gate is quickly taken and the rmy storms through it. the gate opens into a valley used for trade throught the wall. As the Korean army moves into the valley the Hsuing'nu forces strike from the heights surrounding the valley. IT was an ambush, the Hsuing'nu had left the gate undefended on purpose. The nomad cavalry of the Hsuin'nu rained arrows down on the massed Koreans, they could hardly miss. The Koreans in desperation tried charging up the heights. The rough terrain and cosntant hail of arrows broke up the charge  and by the time it reached the heights it had become disordered and the impact of the heavy cavalry was neutralized. The Hsuing'nu heavy cavalry, though outnumbered, counter charged the disordered Korean heavy cavalry. A bloody melee ensued. The momentum was with the nomads and the Koreans broke and fled. Prince Kim Ho was killed in the flight, An arrow pierced the side of his helmet and he was dead before he hit the ground.

Lord Li Wong led the defeated Koreans back into Liao-tung

In the east, Lord Kuchlug had anticipated the Koreans would react to attack Lu'an, so he lead his small cavalry force east, raiding as he went. When his raids brought him into Bandao, his luck changed. King Ura was in the region. The King, though in his 6th decade, was still alert and a very able general. Lord Kuchlug tried to evade and escape to raid some more but he was caught by Ura and his small cavalry force was annihilated. Lord Kuchlug perished with his men.
