General Information: (*= New)

Welcome to L27, I am your GM for this chaotic world of the dark ages; my name is Chet S. My Lords GM address is: Lords27gm@throneworld.com for orders and L27 stuff, and my L27 paypal address is: Chetb5@snet.net

***Turn fee is still $5.00, but there is also a $5.00 startup fee for new players, and if you pay by credit card though paypal please include $0.50 cents per turn payment to cover the Paypal credit card fee. Also I do not accept any personal checks as my bank charges me a $20 fee for any bounced checks that I deposit...(Money orders & certified checks are ok.)

Any nation that reaches a -$10.00 balance without making an arrangement with me will not be processed, and not sending orders in for three turns in a row in addition to not making payments, will force me open your country to a new player who has the time and money...

I have policy of no switching nations if your balance is in the red, until that negative balance is paid and you must also pay for one turn ahead so your in the black.

***BTW if your orders form doesn’t have a yellow highlight section in the middle of it, you are using the wrong sheet and need to download a new one from the file section of this site or at the L27 home site at: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lords-27/files/L27_Excel_orders_template.xls

If you do not have Microsoft Excel, there is a free version of Office called OpenOffice that will open, edit and save Excel file at: http://www.openoffice.org/

Do not put new or old projects in the builds section of the above Order form; they only go in the new or old projects section, and do not delete any part of the order form that you are not using, just leave the unused sections blank and do not add any page-breaks either.

***Make sure your e-mail address is right in your orders, that is the address the program will send your stat sheet to... and that it has the right turn number too!

Troop builds: If your leader is in the region already, don't build troops for the garrison and then have him pick them up, just build troops for him.

Mercenaries: Remember that you MUST specify a city where you are hiring the Mercs. Failure to do this will result in no Mercs and the money being lost. Also, mercenaries may not be hired for more than one turn at a time. This may change when the Years per Turn reduces sufficiently enough for a contract to carry over to multiple turns. PLEASE put where you are hiring any mercenaries AND how many you are trying to hire AND how much you are willing to pay per point of troops in your builds section on the order form. PLEASE put this information in the notes section at the end of your builds. Otherwise you will not get the mercenaries and the GPs bid on them will be lost.

For Public works (PWB) builds, please state whether its for a region or city in your builds section. (Like "Region of Kashmir", "City of Atlantis"...).

Claimed Regions and Cities: These regions and cities will be noted by a dot in your color, not a full color shading of the region.

Order format: Please name your orders L27_T42_NationName.xls

BTW Any newsfax material supplied with your orders would be appreciated but not guarantee to be used…

My rule changes: (* = New starting this turn)

TRANSFERS: A lot of orders don't state if the transfer was spent, or saved, or even received, so all gold transfers will go into gold savings and all agro transfers will into reserves and the receiving nation will not be able to spend or convert them until next turn after (the agro will still help against famine). BTW gold or agro transfers will not be refused by receiving nation unless you state in your orders that you do not accept gifts from so and so, or from anybody...

Lords 27 now uses Rules: 5.10.0 and this game uses HOT - Hands Off Trade

From now on, leaders by their self do not need to have ships to travel across water (unless they are exploring)...

Rule & Admin Actions: Only the King, Regent, Heir, Primate, Archbishop, Grandmaster, or Master may conduct a Rule action. Only an Heir, Prince, Master, Archbishop, Bishop or Lieutenant may conduct an Admin action.

Only Kings & Queens, and Heirs can have children (HC). Having Children: A leader (Kings & Queens, and Heirs) conducting either Rule, Defend (not React), or Admin in the Capital or Homeland region may also perform Have Children actions at the same time. I'm assuming he's not working 24 hours a day on Administrating! Also, please let me know for how many actions your King, Queen, Heir, etc, is having. Unless, it's not specified, I'll assume the HC action is being done for the entire turn. Finally, if the individual doing the HC is female, there is a chance that they may die in childbirth...

Leader assistance: If a leader is assisting another, please make a note of this in the assisted leader's orders, and a tip for you: large armies with only one leader are hard for them to handle and if the single leader is killed, they will fall apart.

Keep track of action points & total action points for your leaders, (& if you build troops for leaders please state in the builds section for which leader A#01, etc), otherwise your leader might end up doing nothing.

AP reminder: please remember that it is the slowest unit of a given force that determines which unit modifiers apply towards determining APs/year. So if your army of light, elite cavalry includes even one heavy infantry unit, the footsloggers are slowing everyone down. Also if a leader has a combat rating of four or less, he has a –1 AP per year modifier when he is with any type of troops.

Unnamed leaders: suffer a –1 to their action points per year and Kings without names will be named by me if you don't, also unnamed cities do not get built, what's more leaders need to keep track of their AP expenditure in their orders or run an excellent chance that they will do nothing the entire turn, and need to have the leader number along with the name, i.e. L01 for King, L02 for Heir, etc (same as the stat sheet)...

Allied Leaders: the following are the rules concerning allied leaders. Any troops attached to an allied leader may not be detached for any purpose. They stay with the allied leader at all times. Allied leader units may not be demobilized, although they will go away if the player decides to reduce the control level of the allied region or if the allied leader dies and is not replaced. Players may build or assign additional units to the allied army but such units become part of the allied army and may not be taken back.

Loaning troops: Loaned troops must be accompanied by one of their own leaders and the troops stay with that leader, if you give troops away then they are divided by two so the receiving nation only gets half of what you send them (and no you can not give away leaders, except for princes to churches as per the rules).

Leaders as Espionage Points: If you're using a leader for an espionage operation or bonus point, they must be located in the region or city where the operation is occurring. If the op is a spectacular failure, there is a chance that any leader assigned to the operation may be caught or killed, which can be embarrassing.

HORDE RULING: Hordes are to be played by a single player (or maybe played by an Americans player if no other can be found).

Certain builds take an entire turn to perform (although for clerical reasons are usually done at the same time as the rest of the builds). These are: City Construction (both new and additional levels), all Megalithic Construction Projects, Colonies, and Fortresses. (What this means is that you may not take advantage of a given build of this type on the turn that it is constructed. For example: you may not base MSPs or build PWBs at the increased city capacities until the turn after the construction is done. Similarly, PWBs may not be built in excess of a region's old terrain type the turn it becomes cultivated or colonized to a higher GPV. Please plan accordingly.)

Demobilizing Units: you cannot demobilize units and rebuild them elsewhere on the same turn. This is not allowed as per rule 5.4.6 indicates. However, unlike the rules, I will allow demobilized units to be rebuilt elsewhere on the turn following their demobilization or later. The NFP simply go into your saved NFP slot.

Regional Cultivation is now a base level one project, but I will be using the megalithic construct cost multiples on table 6-2.

Empty ( / ) regions need at least one troop to garrison them if you want to claim them and you can't DP them as there is nobody home.

Diplomacy on Pacified & Pacified Tributary: Diplomacy can be conducted on these regions with the success number being added to the Years from Conquest (YfC) number on your stat sheet. It is still a long process...

Colonization Any region that is cultivated or has been cultivated and is less than 2 GPV can be increased in value up to 2 GPV for the cost of 15 GP and 15 NFP per GPV of increase. Any named island can be colonized to 1 GPV.

Homeland colonization: any tech 6 nation can colonize their homeland to level 3 GPV, assuming its cultivated (and already 2 GPV) for a cost of 20 NFP and 20 GP. Any tech 9 nation can colonize their homeland to level 4 GPV, assuming it's cultivated (and already 3 GPV) for a cost of 25 NFP and 25 GP.

Exploration: With the following exceptions, all nations have knowledge of sea zones only within trade range of them, unless they have the rudders listed on their stat sheet, and all European nations have knowledge of all sea zones that border Europe (Mediterranean and Atlantic).

Rudders cannot be sold or shared the same turn that they are explored and discovered; word of and maps of the rudders need to make it back home.

In L27 Mercs are listed by religion, and they prefer to be hired by their own religion (and will chose theirs over yours if different), so if your a tolerant religion [See chart on L27 site] then you can hire them, but if you're a hostile religion then forget about hiring them.... Mercenary Commanders & Mercenary Leaders: If you hire any of the mercenaries available in an area, a merc commander comes with them and they must stay with the Merc commander at all times. Also a Merc leader since he is named and he outranks a commander and may be hired with the Merc Commander and troops as a extra (or main / backup) leader.

Exact Tithe: A Primate needs to have an Influence in the country where the EXT operation is taking place. If you do, you can exact a tithe % equal to or less than the influence value. So if a primate had a two influence in a nation, the primate player could attempt to exact a one or two percent tithe. This makes establishing influence extremely important. The maximum influence a primate can have in a given country cannot exceed the latter's RS.

Loot Religious Site: It is the same as a loot region action, were half of the loot must be given to the troops, or if you don't give half, it might cause mutiny.

Sea zones marked on the map with an "H" are hostile, and you will lose ships and maybe leaders if you try to pass through them, while regions with "HS" are hostile to you DPing them (and most other actions)...

Attacking a Field Fort defended province costs +1 AP extra.

MAX TAX is going to stay at 2.0 for now, and trade income will be caped at 1.0 on T42 and beyond.

Takeda Shogunate

Shinto | Seafaring |Tech 4
Shogun Aro
Diplomacy: City of Kanazawa [-UN], Amgu [EA]

Shogun Aro took another sea voyage, but this time not to invade, but to honor the region of Amgu with a personal visit (he had his grand fleet of 80 something warships and almost 10,000 bodyguards with him, which made up for the diplomatic skills he was lacking) and got the region to agree to closer ties. He also stayed there to oversee a new port city of “Ada” and its citadel, further strengthening the Shogunate’s foothold on the mainland. The road network project that was started five years ago was finally finished (from city in Yamato to city in Alchi, and City in Kwanto to city in Nigata...), also the Kurils (islands) were colonized, the city of Kumamoto in Saga rebuilt after being destroyed by the volcano, and another new port city of ""Nemuro” was constructed in Hokkaido on the border of Kinka San and Peruse strait. The Shogun ordered a huge payment made to Kannagara No Michi in addition to the normal tithe, and investments were made in religious ops and bonus (and of course the usual investment in university). The Shogun honored his brother Prince Okajuurou by making him his heir, and promoted a younger brother in the royal family to prince, as two of three leaders sent exploring returned with some success, while the third, Lord Akihiko, never returned. Him and his ships were never seen again…

Kannagara No Michi

Shinto | Seafaring | Tech 4
Grandmaster Korizawa
Diplomacy: Amgu [OP], city of Heian [OE], Yamaguchi [OO], Shikoku [OE], Shimane [N/E], Nigata [N/E]

Grandmaster Korizawa’s eyes almost popped out of his head when he saw the amount of gold the Takeda Shogunate sent him in aid. He then order 13,000 mixed troops trained and personally brought them and other troops to Amgu (with another of his leaders) to thank the Shogun face to face. Before the Grandmaster left on his sea voyage he ordered half a dozen small investments made, with the largest being in infrastructure. Additionally he had some of his leaders attempt to establish six new sites, but they were only successful in founding four.

The Lu Kingdom of Korea

Buddhist | Civilized | Tech 4
King Gang Hong-Rip
Diplomacy:

King Gang Hong-Rip ruled while most of his leaders helped administer to the Kingdom’s needs.  This helped offset the thin government problem facing the newly expanded kingdom. He also set aside a good size gold payment for the Mongol official who was suppose to appear and collect tribute, but nobody showed up, and it gathered dust in the treasury. Oh dear, what a shame.  The King was distressed at the news that his most favorite and charismatic leader Kin Yung died in a riding accident, and further distressed when the gold mine in Kosuryo went bust. A good sized investment was made in infrastructure to help support the larger kingdom but that didn’t help any, although siege tactics did improve.

Empire of the Black Dragon

Buddhist | Civilized | Tech 4
Emperor Lui II
Diplomacy: Yen [N/E -3YFC], Lia0-Tung [+3YFC]

Emperor Lui II was not sure how long the peace would last in China so he consolidated his hold over his Empire by building new field forts in a couple of regions, in addition to having trained a new elite cadre (5,000 strong) known as the Dragon Guard. Thus he stood ready with his military forces to meet any invaders in combat, but alas no one invaded… As a result he was able to spend his nights at the sushi bar and watch the newly discovered fireworks. There he thought about how he was just reaching his seventies, and getting a little weary of ruling, and so he was happy when he was able to promote his oldest son, Tuoba Dao, to Heir, and his younger son, Tuoba Gui, to Prince at their coming of age festival.

Construction and investment proceeded within the Empire with cultivation started in Ningsia, new public works in Huang to water its rice paddies, and its city of Yinchuan was increased in size. A medium sized investment was made in higher learning, while small and tiny ones were made in everything else.

The Imperial Realm of Honan

Buddhist | Civilized | Tech 4
Emperor Lui Zhaokang the Kinslayer
Diplomacy: Anhui [+2YFC], city of Chiangning [F]

Emperor Lui Zhaokang gathered his military forces and returned home to the region of Honan (also with his new wife and year old son); there he put his troops on maneuvers, ready to react to any invasion by any outside force. He sent all his leaders on diplomatic missions except for that ally in the city of Chiangning who retired when the city became friendly. Surprisingly no investments were made even although there was plenty of gold in the treasury gathering dust, but it doesn’t mean gold wasn’t spent as all the Realm’s cities expanded (with new walls) as well as a new royal road was started from Honan to Anhui.

Order of the Shaolin Temple

Buddhist | Civilized | Tech 4
Grandmaster Qin Zhan died in 704, Qi Tong replaced him
Diplomacy: Shensi {OE], Shan'Si [OP], city of Kaiching [OO], Anhui [N/E], Tsainan [N/E]

Grandmaster Qin Zhan left Honan, journeyed to Anhui, and failed to found an Order Peceptory (just as badly as when he attempted to establish an order estate in Honan while he was there).   Furthermore, he didn’t live to regret it as passed away in his sleep at age 70, leaving his troops leaderless in Anhui. Brother Qi Tong happen to be in the right place at the right time and it helped that he had some troops and a bright military mind, so while there were older and wiser masters, none challenged him for the grandmaster spot. (One of those masters, Shu Yung-Shy, failed in establishing a site in Tsainan and was found hanging from the rafters of his room.) Elsewhere within the Order some 2,000 heavy elite infantry were trained in Honan to bolster its defenses, and a small investment was made to higher learning, and another half a dozen tiny ones were made.

The Hu Empire

Theravada Buddhist | Civilized | Tech 4
Hu Tii, King of the Hu, Son of Heaven, Protector of the Enlightened, Emperor of the Middle Kingdom, Lord of Golden Dragon Father of the Han died in 701, overthrown by heir and son Hu Dong
Diplomacy: City of Tii’Dawn [F]

Emperor Hu Tii's rule was still filled with sorrow; he couldn't get over the devastation cause by the death of his of wife Hu Mei, he felt like an empty shell and shut himself away in the citadel in Changling to mourn the loss of the greatest love of his life. His heir, Hu Dong, was ever vigilant with the world's largest army at his command, but it wasn't long before that changed… In a tea house somewhere in the region of Hupei outside the city of Changling, two brothers met.  Hu Dong sat sipping tea with his elder brother Prince Hu Zhang; suddenly he hurled his cup outside through a rice-paper wall. He exclaimed to his elder brother "Father gives me the largest army that China has ever seen and what does he have me do with it! Nothing! While he sits and sulks about mother's passing like an old woman…", Prince Hu Zhang replied that the time is at hand for you to grab hold of destiny and take command, I heard that father ordered the city of Changling expanded, so the walls will come down and all you will to do is deal with the citadel to take what is rightfully yours…

The citadel of Changling was a crumbled ruin, smoke rising up into the sky, as the two brothers stood and observed their handiwork, the new Emperor Hu Dong stated "I shall raze this city and make an example for anybody who will oppose me…"  Prince Hu Zhang prostrated himself before his brother and begged him not to destroy the holy city, but to make an example of his nation’s foes, not of its people… The new Emperor agreed to the wisdom of his brother's words (He also made his son Hu Xi his heir and banished a couple of Hu Tii siblings from the royal family so they wouldn't challenge his son.).

Although the Hu Empire now had a Kinslayer take the Jaded Throne just like Honan to its north, it was still a time of progress, a new regional fortress and a lot of field forts were built in Nan Chao to guard against foes from the west. Many public work projects were spread across the empire in Chiennan, Gouangxi, Hubei, and Hwai, and cultivation started in both Guizhou and Ghang'de.

Theravada Buddhist

Primate Kai-Lun.
Diplomacy: City of Haibianr [CH], Fujian [CH], Fukien [CH], city of Hienyang [N/E]

Primate Kai-Lun preached in the holy city of Changling with most of his priests to help with an religious ceremony (except one, named Liang, who established three out of four sites). Later during the year the Primate was horrified by the destruction of the holy city's citadel by its own people, "What madness it this?" he cried! Afterward he was saddened by the loss of High Priest Dinh whose body was recovered from the citadel's ruins.

The Temple made two large investments: one in a bonus to its religious operations the quickly saw results and another in higher learning. A couple small ones were made: one in a bonus to its intelligence operations that didn't improve and another in siege tactics that did (Also made half a dozen tiny investments). Church missionaries saw total success in Fukien, and further improvement in Miao Ling.

Sirivijayan Empire

Hinduism | Seafaring | Tech 4
Emperor Gnialat II
Diplomacy: Utara [N/E], Aceh [N/E]

Emperor Heir Gnialat II ordered the region of Utara to the plow as both regions of Johor and Sulawesi finished being cultivated, while he himself stayed home to rule from his lavish palace with its seven tiers of gardens. The Emperor sent his most undiplomatic leader to on a diplomatic mission to Utara and of course the poor fellow fell flat on his face. If he just wanted to embarrass the guy, the Emperor didn't say.  Another leader was sent to Aceh and he failed too, although he was surely capable of success, which made his failure worse in the Emperor's eyes…

More massive improvements were made to the empire (besides the cultivation started in Utara) mostly towards its defenses with 40 warships and 20 heavy transports having their keels laid in various shipyards, and three thousand infantry were trained.   Surprising there were no cities that were expanded this time, but public works were built to help feed the past expansion of ten cities and two regions on a great scale.  More small investments were made to half a dozen different areas, and a large one for the university.  A tragic loss of one of the Empire's leaders (known for his sharp military mind) was when, at the age of 44, lieutenant Chandra died after partaking of some tainted soup.  A great military genus called Sanju was ordered to journey to Siripti to take command of the garrison there.

Kingdom of Champa

Hinduism | Civilized | Tech 4
King Tri Jayaavarman II
Diplomacy: Wuliang [UN]

King Tri Jayaavarman II continues to rule quite well and again kept his good sized army ready for action. More improvements were made to his empire which consisted of cultivation started in Kayah, and finished in Laos; only two cities (instead of three) were increased in size this time, while more public works were improved in one city and three regions to feed the increased population. Higher walls were added to the city of Angor, and a new city was built called "Yasodhpura" in Lampang, with a royal road from it connecting it to the city in Siam.  By the way, Lampang was also colonized too.

No mercenary war ships were hired this time from a Hindu mercenary navy group, but some mercenary troops were hired to help depopulate three regions (Kayah was resettled by Champa).  More troubling news reached the king that the colony of Arukan (which proclaimed its independence) had expanded. On a personal note the King made his son Tri Jayaavarman III his heir at the boy's come of age celebration.  The King visited the university to see what the students were complaining about at the university, and was embarrassed about the poor conditions there. He had the headmaster arrested for lining his pockets at the student expense, and made an investment greater than what had been invested up to that point in time (still it was a small investment compared to neighboring kingdoms… But at least they now had used chairs, creaky desks, or even some old books, although they still were short on brushes and ink).

The Mongol Horsemen

Asiatic Pagan | Nomadic | Tech 3
Khan Altan
Diplomacy:  Chitin [A]

Khan Altan finished his father work and finally got the Chitin horde to ally, thus increasing the horde’s size by a third, and then he led his horseman back home to the region of Mongol. Surprisingly, a small investment was made in infantry tactics by the horse people.

Emperor Ilore
Diplomacy: Jats [-UN], Dahala [-UN], city of Tripuri [-UN], Kakatiya [-UN], Gangas [-UN], city of Mithi [-UN], Kosata [EA], Belur [FA], Pundra [N/E]

Emperor Ilore issued enough orders for both the Sword and Kali as he ruled. Construction proceeded on a scale the Empire has never seen, with tons of builds consisting of public works in many cities, higher walls for some cities, four cities expanded and four regions colonized. Also new fortresses were built in three regions (although one failed because of revolt, more on that later…) and a citadel was built in the city of Sikar.  The Empire’s representatives wheeled and dealed for rutters for access across the world, rutters that went all the way to the Albion Isles (for some tea and crumpets). They brought the rutters from Afriqan, Persia, and Parthia, but Parthia took their gold and didn’t deliver their rutters, and the Empire was expecting some from Aden that didn’t arrive. On a personal note, the Emperor at age 54 remarried (fourth wife) and his heir married (first wife) and blessed the Emperor with his first grandson. Elsewhere Missionaries sent to about a half a dozen regions met with varying degrees of success (Bhutan, Tibet, T'ung'pu, Om'cha, Tz'uk'an, Manipur, Kayah). The India’s golden age ended as distressing news arrived of the civil war, disease, civil unrest to the North and worse yet, it spilled over the Empire’s borders, causing numerous revolts across the Empire, which were made worse when Empire agents try to stop one and made it worse by accidentally killing the young daughter of a region’s rebel leader. Sadly the Empire was vastly unprepared to deal with the revolts with no armies ready to react and most of its troops were in garrisons without any leaders in command…For the Empire’s leaders were elsewhere on diplomatic missions (and the civil war ended the diplomatic mission of two of its leaders in Pundra when the new realm imprisoned them for a short time before sending them home..).  So it seems India the jewel of the civilized world has finally entered the dark ages that the rest of the world has suffered through…

Asamakara arranged the treaty below between Hindu Afriqan and Aden, and Emperor Ilore added his signature to it too.

Treaty of Madagascar: 701 AD

For continued peaceful relations and unity in the Indian Ocean, the Hindu
and Zoroastrian powers hereby declare a border resolution over the island
of Madagascar.

The Zoroastrian Sultanate of Aden lays claim to the regions of Mahabo,
Sakalava and Ikopa.

The Hindu Kingdom of Afriqa lays claim to the regions of Betisimarsaka,
Hovo Merina, Merintha and Ihozi.

Additionally, we reaffirm the rights of the Zoroastrian Sultanate of Aden
over the island of East Africa: Socotra, Zanzibar, Comoros, and Mauritius.

Both Hindu Afriqa and Zoroastrian Aden may renegotiate these terms and
boundaries between themselves as Sovereign Nations.

Diplomacy:  City of Axanja [F], Tadzik [A], Turkmen [EA], Balkash [NT]

Emperor Qutlugh spent his entire time ruling, but it was nearly five years before he got over his young wife’s death in childbirth, and remarried and soon was blessed with a son from his second wife.  At last the Emperor's oldest son came of age, and he was made heir during a grand celebration. Elsewhere the Emperor thought for some reason that Prince Topagan would be freed from his imprisonment in the region of Khirgiz, but alas he remain in a pit of wild dogs still fighting for scraps… Within the Empire religious operations increased along with the Empire finally developing a new design for a warship. A small number of paper and pencils were bought for the university and numerous tiny investments were made as gold exchanged hands. The city of Mara was increased again in size and more public works were built to handle the increased population.  Many of its inhabitants remarked that the city did not stink as much as it used to. 1,200 troops were trained and handed over to an ally in Ferghana, and as twice as many were trained for the Emperor’s personal army.  Missionaries were surprised to have a little success in Dzungaria, while the Empire’s leaders continued to achieve success in expanding the Empire.

Patriarch Bathy didn’t last very long.  He established a church in Alan, but while trying to do the same thing in its city, the new church bell broke free and crushed his skull. The Church also lost the rest of its eldest leaders as Archbishop Tarsis perished in a suspicious fire at the construction site of another church and Archbishop Naom’s heart failed him on the way to Madina, after founding a Church in the city of Angcuran. As over half the new sites failed, the only good word within the Church was that they were able to re-acquire something very important from the Greeks. Bishop Belozi left Mesopotamia and arrived in the region of Asia and took command of the church troops there.  He then journeyed to Crimea to attack the ERE there but it was already conquered by some Zoroastrian cousins. He did get to loot the EO church site there and gave the spoils to his troops, and then continued on his way… The church built Public Works in the region of Persia along with a road from Zagros to Neyriz, and another road from Mesopotamia to Selucia (but no bridge!).  [Luckily Zoroastrians can walk on water!]

Diplomacy: Rhodes [P], city of Rhodes (Sacked) [PT], Hellepontus [UN], city of Perga [UN]

Vahram's sprawling empire was getting too large and his government was stretched thin trying to control it. Worse yet, a Greek assassin badly wounded the ShahanShah and he was bedridden for months with his survival in doubt.  Wild rumours flew about that the Empire would fall apart if he died as his heir was a prisoner of the Greeks.

THE SECOND ROMANO-ZOROASTRIAN WAR (681-):

In addition the war took a turn for the worse for the Persians too; in hindsight Persian greed became their undoing. If the Persian commanders had continued their advance the story might have been different, but thinking they had the Greek dogs whipped, they stopped to loot the rich former ERE lands and Orthodox religious sites.   They were unprepared for the Greek counterattack lead by the ERE heir and the St.Georgios grandmaster and was driven from the Greek mainland into the sea. In the north their leaderless army in Moesia was chased out into Pechneg were it met up with a Persian leader named Firuz.  The battle raged for almost a year before they were defeated by the ERE Emperor Ortaheus and his army, which then chased the survivors further into Goth lands and sacked the city of Boguslav while looting in Kiev.  The only good news for the Persians was that a small campaign to take the Island and city of Rhodes was successful, but that too had a price: The city of Rhode was devastated by outbreak of Scarlet Fever and some of the Persian troops were claimed by this scourge too. Also news that ERE Emperor Ortaheus died of his battle wounds in the summer of 705 cheered up the Persians a little bit.

Autarch Nasim marched with his grand army with armor shiny and bright, north to Patzinak and sized the undefended Greek land, and then went on and conquered the lightly defended region of Crimea and its city before retuning home to celebrate. Lord Raustaum easily talked the region of Vasi to ally with Mithraic, but passed away in his wagon of the old age of 74 on his way to meet Khazari Nobles. Further developments consist of the completion of cultivation in Kuban and Abasigia , while two new port cities were built, one called Azov in Taman, and another called Gurman in Kuban. Also a new road from Alan to Kuban was built. Missionaries achieved some success in Physria.

Construction continued to be the norm, as Gaffar continued his father’s development plans: Cultivation was started in Mahabo and a lot of Public works were built in Hadramut and Yemen to help ease the famine that the Sultanate was suffering, while new walls where built around five of it’s cities.

The Egyptian Empire

Coptic Christian | Civilized | Tech 5
Emperor Merakh
Diplomacy: Suakin [EA]

Emperor Merakh at the relatively young age of 24, gathered the largest army the Med has ever seen: 162,600 mixed troops. He was still angry over the death of his brother and heir Djedkara, by a Christian assassin and vowed revenge. He also ordered three of his leaders to join him, but one revolted and fled fearing he would be blamed for the relapse in security after the offices of the bureaucracy were ransacked again by the Vandals.  Before the Emperor left to deal out his revenge, he dodged an Arian Christian assassin attack, and then he promoted his other brother Abubakar II to become his Heir and then marched on the Christian nation of Chalice by invading Ad’Diffah. An attempt was made to hire the Mercenary Pirates in Alexandria, but Egypt was out bid by the Theban Legion who offered the pirates three times as much. A huge investment was made in the bureaucracy but it didn’t improve anything. As for the Empire’s other leaders, Bishop Drebus’ diplomatic mission to Suakin continued to achieve some success and Lord Marakash was finally freed from his long stay in a Vandal prison.

THE COPTIC WARS (686-):

The Vandal campaign (Holy Grail War) continued but the Holy crusade petered out… Fortunately for the Vandals the Crusade ended on a climatic note, the Crusader army of 52,400 faced a invading army of three times its size, its only advantage was that it was armed with religious zeal, was dug in and had twice as many leaders (1 great, 1 very good, 2 good, 2 ok), while its foe’s leaders were inadequate by comparison (1 good, 1 ok and 1 poor). Twice the huge Egyptian army was driven back into the region of Egypt, but at terrible loses, the crusaders lost 4/5s of their army, while their foes lost only ˝ of their forces. The region Ad’Diffah was littered with over 100,000 dead (a large part of them were Egyptian), and the stench of death filled the air when the Egyptians returned for a third time. What was left of the Crusader army retreated behind the walls of the city of Chalice, and the brilliant (great one) Crusader commander, the Vandal Heir Stephan could only clench his fists in frustration as he had out preformed the Egypt Emperor in every which way, but still the huge force had forced him to retreat. The Egyptians kept up a passive siege of the city for a couple of years, but the Pirate fleet they were expecting to blockade the port never showed. The Emperor return home with his still large force to find out why his pirate fleet didn’t show and boy was he pissed when he found out one of his own allies (his own order) had hired it away… Well the Thebans had put it to good use, it had helped transport their troops to take over Algeria, and then it blockaded the city of Algiers, and afterward it participated in sacking and burning the city.

Coptic Christian | Civilized | Tech 5
Master Candid
Diplomacy:  Algeria [P], Algiers [Sacked and burned], Morocco [-UN]

Master Candid left his troops in the Calabria garrison leaderless, and then returned home to gather his forces. He hired the Pirate fleet for a huge amount of gold to help transport them to attack the region Algeria and its city, with the Order’s armies from Morocco joining in the attack, leaving behind a small garrison. The Order’s religious agents continued to try and lower the Christian influence in Sicily but their efforts were repelled, but other religious agents were able to help raise their own church’s religious strength. At home students started a upraising at the university over all that gold that was spent on the pirates, as bad news arrived that Brother Exuperantius was assassinated in Morocco, and Brother Verena died of his wounds during the battle for Algeria.

The Coptic Church

Coptic Christian | Civilized | Tech 4
Patriarch Mark
Diplomacy:  All of its sites in Kaman and Akan degraded one level, Cyprus [CH], Syria [AB], city of Damascus [N/E], Sennar [CH], city of Wad Madani [N/E], Shoa [N/E], Tsana [N/E], Djibuti [N/E] Alwa [AB], Axum [N/E]

Patriarch Mark guided his church calmly, but he inside he was incensed that the church took a direct hit by the meteor which destroyed a Cathedral in Soro, resulting in cutting of the church’s Cathedral network in Kaman and Akan therefore causing all the sites there to degrade one level (that should help their problem with thin government).  But in retrospect, if the meteor had hit the region of Egypt then the war would be over and lost…

The church’s large prior investment in its cavalry finally paid off. Cultivation of the region of Darfur was started and a couple of field forts were built in Faiyum. The Church raised its own RS with the help of the Theban Legion, but couldn’t lower the Arian Church’s RS due to the what many called the protection of the Holy Grail, the Coptic church decided to get its own holy artifact, in fact Patriarch Mark found old records of a “Holy Shroud” being in the Coptic Church’s procession in the past, but couldn’t find anything about were it was stored or even if it was still in the church’s procession.

A couple of the Church’s Leaders didn’t fare too well, as Bishop Joseph was robbed and killed in Wad Medani trying to establish a church, and Bishop James disappeared in Grand Bassam with some gold, never to be seen again…

The Empire of Axum

Coptic Christian | Civilized | Tech 5
Emperor Verhanu
Diplomacy:  Funj [N/E], city of Amurto [F], Shoa [A]

Emperor Verhanu ruled with his wife and heir Asmara, before sending her to Funj. It was the last time he would see her alive. The Emperor personally went and investigated Alwa for SEs. He was devastated when news of his wife’s death (she was unwell after childbirth) and he blamed the SE he was hunting for her death, soon afterward a rash of deaths follow, his mother Dessye dieing at age 72, then Leader Ras Dashan and Ally Dahlak were stricken.

Constructions proceed with a new canal built from Axum City to connect it with the Upper Nile, and the city’s merchants rejoiced at the chance for new trade, also cultivation was finished in Dongola. In memory of his wife the Emperor ordered a colossal investment in the University she loved so much. Also there were eight other large investments throughout the empire with quick results seen in Cavalry, Intel bonus, Assassin ops and bonus. Missionaries failed in Adal, but have some success in Buganda, while Leader Tungaru rid Kobowen of any competing dogmas. The Coptic Church will be happy to know that Axum achieved maximum faith due to the efforts of its religious operations.

Emperor Bhagadatta oversaw a shift in internal trade routes to more specific routes, then settled back and ruled quite well. He promoted two of his sons who came of age to Prince, and sent his young heir Vivek (with troops and another leader) to gather slaves and get some experience in commanding troops. Great strides were made in the religious and intelligence sectors, while warships went from a dozen paddles to two dozen paddlers. A great thinker called Kujuwakwangu showed up in the capital and was given great honors and he showed the infantry many ways to improve itself. Within the Empire the cultivation project in Ras Hafun was finished and Mogadishu was colonized.

Grandmaster Segun Odegbami did as the previous Grandmaster Amoebi did and decided to join his Coptic brothers in their war, starting a southern front against the Vandals and their allies.  Whether he was smarter or luckier than his predecessor its hard to tell, but he did led his army of 15,000 through the Oases without trouble and easily took control of the lightly defend region of Idjil from the Vandals (with Master Kanu). As Brother Chukwe establish a new Order site in Jos, but fail in Nupe, so was Brother Mutiu was able to increase the Order’s status in Akan. Expenses include 15,000 troops were train for the war effort and numerous small and tiny investments were made to the Order. (Surprisingly nobody died this time around.)

Emperor Nemo
Diplomacy:

The Emperor again went on react maneuvers with his army and afterwards when he returned he was surprised to find his old wife dead at age fifty. Further bad news arrived that a large rock clashed from the sky and had destroyed the Coptic church site in Soro and devastated the landscape (and returned the region to wilderness). Furthermore more prime cultivated land was scorched by Arian Christian Mercs in Segu; the small AC raiding force was stopped in Songhai.

Construction within the Empire consisted of a new road from Sudan to Songhai, and public works built for both Songhai and Ghana. A small investment was made in the university and a few other things. While some missionaries to Sokoro failed to convert anybody and offset some of the good work of the Coptic Bishop there.

Diplomacy:

King Cyrill luckily experienced no more exploding volcanoes in his realm, and he ordered Brnin recultivated and Uzoi rebuilt after the devastation from the last one. He kept up his rule, while his Heir administered the Kingdom. Sadly the Old King suffered from poor health and passed away in sleep at age 71, surround by family and loved ones. His son and heir Matar took the throne without any opposition, and quickly promoted his son Thandiwe to heir when he came of age. Old Prince Uzototlait also administered to the Kingdom’s needs and at 82 was still going strong. A couple of the realm’s leaders searched for something in Akan City, but rumor had it that they found nothing. Besides repairing the damage cause by the volcano, Bomi was colonized and had some Public works built for it. Infantry, siege and warship each got a small investment and the infantry improved its tactics.

Diplomacy:  Algeria [UN], Algiers [UN]

Patriarch Ralston received grim news of the Coptic attack on Algeria and the loss of the Church’s holding there and in its city. As he was guiding his flock, he prayed that another meteor would rain down from heaven on the Coptic fiends. He was happy that his holy Mercs that he hired had some success in Segu, and that a Church holy warrior of God was able to slay one of the Coptic leaders in Morocco, but regrettably it wasn’t the foolish Egyptian Emperor’s time to die. Sad news arrived for the Patriarch that his old childhood friend Archbishop Hasean passed away in his bed at age 62. The walls of the city of Melilla were built higher and some troops were raised for both it and Casablanca, and the bureaucracy offices expanded too. Casablanca which had become a holy city also expanded its population mostly to do with the influx of worshipers.

Elsewhere missionaries were successful in Arguin, and dreadful news that Brother Paul of Carthage who had joined the Crusade with such fiery spirit had perished in battle in Ad’Diffah…Rumors spread around Carthage that the Knights had made plans to move if the need be…as a couple dozen heavy transports and warships were built on the docks for them.

Emperor Garvin ruled and was protected by a new bodyguard called “The Bloodeagles”. He ordered the Baron of Casablanca to go and defend his home (and holy city). He was hearten by the news that Morocco revolted against those Coptic scum and returned to the kingdom, but then distressed by the loss of Algeria, Idjil, and that the city of Algiers, its proud fortress was crushed, and the city sacked and burnt to the ground.  Further grim news that Lord Dappa died in Skikda of some tainted soup, leaving his troops leaderless. The Emperor repaid the outstanding loan early which he regretted when he was out-bid for the pirates support.  But after all of this, the news that reached him in late 705, the news that broke his heart and almost his will, was the news that the Crusade ended in Ad’Diffah without success, although his son and heir there did get the former lands of Chalice to ally with them…

The Kingdom of the Teutons

Celtic Christian | Barbarian | Tech 4
King Koneric
Diplomacy:

King Koneric, although he was in his seventies, again personally visited Veposkava (assisted by a pair of his leaders) and preached with so much determination (for the Celtic Christian religion) that it was not surprising when the region finished converting to Celtic Christian. Afterwards he returned home in poor hearth to rest his weary old bones. His Heir Mundberht finally got remarried after mourning the loss of his first wife for a couple of years.  He settled down to rule in the King’s stead, and his second wife blessed him with four healthy kids in five years. The brilliant general Lord Stagar took Prince Meinrad and a small force of elite light cavalry out slave raiding into the West and while successful, he pushed his luck and caught an Alamanni arrow in the leg and died soon after his return home from an infection.

Within the Kingdom cultivation was started in Novgord as the Ilmen River flooded and reached depths never seen before, and the Upper Volga became navigable to merchant river boats that many wonder if this was a way to trade with the south. Consequently after the uplifting religious event concerning the King, the Kingdom’s religious operations expanded. Elsewhere merchants reported the lost of a dozen ships to something beneath the waves in the Baltic Sea.

A blessing and tragedy follow in his personal life as his wife gave birth to two healthy kids, but died just before the third. Within the Kingdom siege-craft and cavalry tactics improved, while docks were built in the city of New Seville so it could became a port on the Don River. A handful of cavalry were trained for the heir so he could get some command experience, as the city of Boguslav was increased in size, and a few public works were build for both Smolensk and Chernigov.

Prince Theodoric and Lord Vladamir took their small army northward from Moesia to Atelzuko and actually use diplomacy to get the region to forsake the ERE and side with the Goths, in return for another gold payment from Persia.

Emperor Ortaheus decided (even as his empire was collapsing from famine, thin government and even an outbreak of scarlet fever) to ignore his advisors advice. He realized the Empire was in dire starts and couldn’t survive a two front war, so he devised a bold move: he would take an army north, and send his heir Basileus westward under the mega-brilliant St.Georgios Grandmaster with an army to deal with those damned Zoroastrians there. Within the Empire a good size investment was made in the BL, but it saw no improvement. Also a large shipment of gold was sent to aid the Order of St.Georgios, and some Mithraic Colchis agents were found and killed in the granary and they were blamed for the famine…

Old King Barnard ruled his kingdom and thought it was time to expand, so he sent his middle-aged son and heir, named Artos, off to war, Calling it a war is a bit of overstatement as the region of Gascony was only claimed by the WRE and it was not defended. Artos and his 2nd in command, Prince Gawne, who was renowned for his war tactics, easily crushed the region with their large force of heavy cavalry and heavy infantry and returned home before the end of summer. The only newsworthy item of the whole campaign was that a WRE leader was captured and hung as a spy in Gascony. They might be needed as Amorica ignored the empire’s claim in Gascony (and killed Lord Rufous there, who was on a mission DPing it. Rufous also failed with DPing Aquitaine.). Prince Claudius “The Confused” was named heir and finally got his act together (or at least some clear orders) and along with a fleet of 130 mixed warships and seven and a half thousand mixed troops invaded Malta. The Iroquois People

North Amerind | Barbarian | Tech 2
Chief Greystag
Diplomacy:

Chief Greystag was ushering in 55 seasons of age and felt so weak and sickly that he thought he would soon be meeting the Great-Maker-in-the-Sky, but he still managed to rule his people well as he hung on to life. A new system of water works were built for Cayuga, while the town of Staghorn started to grow into a city. The first two warships ever built for the People joined Runningwolf and his half a dozen light transports on a mission to explore the Labrador Sea, a voyage from which they would never return. Within the nation it seemed the people lost some interest in worshiping according to the old ways…

The Dakota Nation

North Amerind | Nomadic | Tech 2
Chief Wild Eagle
Diplomacy:

Chief Wild Eagle had had more than enough of Wilderness Voices and his preaching about the ritual slaughter of wild animals. The Chief gathered all the military strength of his nation and brought the turbulent priest to heel, and Wilderness Voices was soon burning bright in the middle of a bonfire. Afterward Chief Wild Eagle returned home to rule, and leaned that one of his bravest braves, named Two Trees, died during a buffo hunt. Within the nation, a very small investment was made in the BL and university, while a single water work was built in the region of Dakota. Manpower and gold continue to fuel the Cultivation project in the region of Ponca uneventfully.

The Mississippi Federation

Chief Running Moose
Diplomacy: Choctaw [C]

Chief Running Moose spent late nights smoking his pipe while he kept the federation running smoothly. His new heir Ten Bears married a young Chickasaw squaw and attempted to have as many children as possible, but it was almost 5 winters before she had a healthy child that lived (a couple of sickly ones died). The region of Sargarmon continued to be colonized with undesirables from the homeland as any that opposed the new heir were shipped out. A few more public works were built for the region of Kaskinapo as well as a couple of field forts in Miami. Another very small investment was made in the university and infrastructure, and a new one in the BL. Spotted Eagle was sent out again to explore the Matagorda Sea and never returned, rumor had it that the pirates of the white men got him. The Brave Roaring River went and claimed Choctaw with his troops, but on his way to Adena he drowned in the Ohio River, leaving his remaining troops leaderless in Shawnee.

The Yamasee Nation

North Amerind | Barbarian | Tech 4
Chief Ancient Oak
Diplomacy:

Chief Ancient Oak ruled but his orders were so hard to understandable that his leaders did nothing (sent in wrong orders for leaders). The builds orders were ok, and the city of Kolomoki was built larger its walls were torn down and rebuilt, and 1,400 heavy infantry were built to defend the region of Yamasee.

The Yokut Federation

North Amerind | Barbarian | Tech 3
Chief Hatawin
Diplomacy:

Chief Hatawin ruled nonstop well into his sixties, and he was getting very fragile and ready to meet his maker, but it was his wife that fell to sickness. His heir suffered the same misfortune when his wife died after the birth of their second child along with the child. The Federation kept up its expansion as the region of Okmulgee finished its cultivation project, and roads were started from Navajo to Liano onwards into Okmulgee. A few water works were built in Anasazi, while defense wasn’t overlooked as 5,000 heavy elite infantry were trained in the region of Yokut. Ancient Leader called Lantaya passed on after 71 winters, but not before imparting some wisdom into the ear of the new heir.

The Empire of the Aztecs

Pelegian Christian | Barbarian | Tech 3
Emperor Pryzaka
Diplomacy:

Emperor Pryzaka ruled his wide empire, with help from his heir who finally married and had two offspring. Tons of waterworks were built in Huexotia, Tlapocoya, and Popoluca, as the Empire continued to invest in converting from caste to clan. Agents searching the valley of Mexico came up with no clues to the Old Gods cult’s whereabouts or were it disappear to. Teputec finally converted fully to Pelegian Christian, but efforts to increase the nation’s religious strength failed. . When two resourceful leaders named John Nahuatnka and Simon Zukapata, preaching in Cuyutec, were found dead without a mark on them in their room in the spring of 702, rumors began to fly that a symbol of the Old Gods was found with them…

The Holy Pelegian Church

Pelegian Christian | Barbarian | Tech 4
Patriarch Fynbar ap Aran
Diplomacy: Tlapocoya [AB], Huexotia [CH], Michigamea [CH], Tepuztec [N/E], Chitimicha [N/E]

Patriarch Fynbar ap Aran was out of his office establishing some sites, but the church spokesperson wouldn’t say where. This, of course, sparked rumors among the faithful that the Patriarch was on his deathbed… The first Pelegian Christian church was established in Mississippi in Michigamea by Archbishop Cullen ap Dnez, a church highlight. A low point was reached in Tepuztec, when Bishop Blathmec ap Burgess was meeting with the local elder to get permission to build a church and a man in black robes went up and whispered into the local elder’s ear, the elder held out his hand to the man in black who poured some gold into it, whereupon the elder then ordered the bishop locked up. A strange event occurred in Chitimacha, the region fully converted but at the same time Bishop Calgacus ap Calhoun who was trying to establish a church, was thrown into jail for a unknown reason. Within the Church a small investment was made in the university and the BL expanded, as did the religious bonus and Intel establishment.

The Albion Empire

Emperor Gareth ap Grania ac Mian
Diplomacy:  City of Aberdeen [F], city of Ayoel [F], Lenca [N/E]

Emperor Gareth ap Grania ac Mian was getting on in age, his hair was gray turning to white, his hands wrinkled but steadily held the reins of rulership. He gave his heir Gareth the II more of the boring duties of administration, while he himself longed for the open sea. Tristan, he of the silver tongue, talked the city leaders of Ayoel into becoming friendlier. Prince Conncobar only found 25% of the rutters to the Minch before he had to return home to port for more supplies. Within this grand empire a large investment in its infrastructure was made and a new port city of Aberdeen was built in Catawba ignoring any claims by the Yamasee nation. Missionaries were successful in both Mescalero and Chitimacha.

The Empire of the Huari

South Amerind | Barbarian | Tech 3
Emperor Juan Valdez died in 702, Juan Valdez II succeeded him
Diplomacy: Uru [FA], Arica [C]

Emperor Juan Valdez kept ruling until he passed away in his sleep on a summer’s eve at the age of sixty-eight. He passed happily into the next world having done great things during his rule; his son sure had big sandals to fill. By the way, his Heir and namesake Juan Valdez II married a jungle girl from the region of Uru and that brought with it stronger ties with that region. The royal road network of cobblestones grew, as the empire expanded to the south, and a huge investment in siege-works quickly paid off. Sadly two of three explorers and their ships failed to return from exploring and were listed as lost at sea.

The Amazons

South Amerind | PreColumbian | Tech 2
Chief Icaru
Diplomacy:

Chief Icaru ran his tiny jungle empire with his heir and eldest son, who took care of the administration duties whatever they were. Good news reached the Chief that the combined efforts of his leaders brought the jungle province back to non-heretical status, and that damned Heretic Morroc disappeared into the jungle never to be seen again. Within the jungle kingdom some new farms were built and some waterworks expanded in Mekaranoti, while for some reason no investments were made for the future.
