put an "open trade with all" order in your trade route orders.
The rules governing Infra shortfalls for Thin
Government and BL shortfalls for CCR checks will not take effect until Turn 4.

THE
KINGDOM OF KOREA
Mokchong
DIPLOMACY: none
Another
1800 horsemen were trained. Mokchong added these men to his army, and moved to
pacify the region of Mantap. The locals put up quite a good fight, in the end
causing the loss of 200 soldiers, and wounding Mokchong himself. Undaunted,
Mokchong continued on, successfully bringing the people of Mantap under his
iron fist.
MICHIGANA
JAPAN
Fujiwara
Michinaga, Nairan of all Japan.
DIPLOMACY: Nigata (NE)
The
emperor gave orders to erect two cities in his lands. The city of Tokyo,
located in Kwanto, and the city of Nagoya in Aichi were constructed under the
watchful eye of Michinaga.
Heir
to the Throne Ishida spent his time holding military exercises, whipping the
national army into shape in case the Korean get delusions of grandeur. Ishida
also fathered a daughter in 1007.
Takeda
was dispatched to the region of Nigata to do his sweet-talking to the locals.
One can't fault him for trying, but the discussions about a unified Japan fell
on deaf ears.
THE
LIAO EMPIRE
Sheng-Tsung,
Emperor of the Khitan.
DIPLOMACY: none
Slept.
THE
KINGDOM OF HIS-HSIA
Li

SUNG
CHINA
Cheng-Tsung,
Emperor of the Middle Kingdom
DIPLOMACY: Szechwan (F), Koeuichoa (A), Kwangsi
(A)
Cheng-Tsung
dipped into his massive coffers, and funded road-building projects. Roads from Kaifeng to Chiangning, Kaifeng to
Changchou, Tangchou to Funiu, and Funiu to Chingling were built, hopefully
improving the quality of communication inside of Sung territory. Even after all of the spending, there was
still enough left to expand the size of the city walls of Ying Ch'ang. Still, there was enough left over to send a
sizeable amount to the Annam.
Cheng-Tsung
watched over this construction, along with the rest of his realm, very
closely. He also sired two daughters,
one born in 1008, and another in 1010.
Finally, capping off a very busy 5 years, he trained his troops until he
found them to be of a diligence befitting the Sung.
Prince
of the Realm T'ai-Tsung traveled to Szechwan, where the locals were very eager
to agree to a complete alliance. The
city of Koeuichou echoed that sentiment, agreeing to a full alliance with the
Emperor.
Che'yin
was dispatched to Kwangsi. While not
quite as able a diplomat as T'ai-Tsung, he still achieved a full alliance with
the locals. The Emperor should be
pleased . . .
Chou,
once a lieutenant in the Sung Army, was elevated to the level of Prince in
recognition of his years of work for the Emperor. The newly monikered Chou-Tsung was placed under Cheng-Tsung's
wing as the second in command of the national army.

THE
KINGDOM OF CHAMPA
Kim-Quang
DIPLOMACY: none
Dateline: Castle of the Quang - Early 1007
An
otherwise normal royal banquet suddenly plunged into terror. Masked warriors entered the castle,
slaughtered the unwary guards, and made their way into the royal banquet hall,
where Kim-Quang and his son Chan-Quang were attending a diplomatic dinner. The warriors were able to attack Chan-Quang,
maiming his left arm, before hundreds of fearless guards finally stopped the
assassins. The investigation into who
these masked swordsmen were has proven fruitless.
THE
KHEMER EMPIRE
Jayaviravaman,
Emperor of the Khemers
DIPLOMACY: Siam (EA), Surin (F)
To
open even more avenues of trading, the city of Dawe was built in Mon. Several new trade routes were opened in the
newly built city of Long Xuang, so the Emperor has high plans for this new
city.
Jayavaman went to work conduct a census of his
realm. It was finished in late 1007,
just 12 days before he fell ill with a hacking cough, and died.
The
newly crowned Emperor Jayaviravaman (whew) was dispatched to Siam. After courting and marrying a nice local
girl, he achieved an economic alliance with the Siamese.
Andrahupta
was sent to Surin. Even without the
added incentive of a regal marriage, the Surinese gladly pledge full fealty to
the new Emperor.

Chulamanivarman,
Emperor of Srivijaya
DIPLOMACY: Perak (F)
As
Chulamanivarman stayed home, both the heir Airlagga and second officer Selak
were sent to Perak. While neither
person was a skilled diplomat, the ruling clan of the Perak found the
combination irresistible. They fully
joined with the Javan crown.
As
a gift of his loyal service to the Empire, 20 warships were sent to Sailendras,
leader of Pajajaran.
THE
KINGDOM OF THE SPICE ISLANDS
Raging Storm
DIPLOMACY: Bali (T), Taiwan (NT)
Raging
Storm left for a diplomatic mission to Bali, and surprisingly found that the
Javans had not beat him there this time.
After securing an alliance of tribute with the inhabitants, he took his
force of warships to the high seas, and charted a safe route to the island of
Palau.
Whispering
Palm stayed in his hut while his father left the island. When his father returned, he found that his
son now had a son of his own, born in 1007.
Singing
Dolphin was sent to Taiwan, and wooed the locals, paving the way for future
diplomatic efforts.

THE
KINGDOM OF PALAS

Adhiyamaan's
drudgery of sitting on the throne eventually was rewarded, as a son was born to
him in 1010. Maaravaludhi was sent out

THE
RAJPUTATE OF MAGHADA
<name>
DIPLOMACY: none
The
people of Bihar clamored for more legroom.
<KINGS NAME>, always happy to oblige, expanded the walls of Bihar
and built defenses along the walls. A
Census was enacted to make sure that people were happy with the size of the new
city.
THE
RAJPUTATE OF RAJPUT
Satatand,
Rajput of Rajput
DIPLOMACY: none
The
country mourned the loss of Chinnaraj, a trusted leader of the Rajput, in
1006. Satatand spent his time ruling,
though eyewitnesses say that he spent less time ruling and more time with his
wife, as evidenced by the birth of 2 daughters and a son over a span of 5
years.
THE
RAJPUTATE OF UTTAR PRADESH
Kamesh
DIPLOMACY: none
Kamesh
saw a lot of money coming into his coffers from his capital city of
Mathura. Always the thoughtful one, he
in turn rewarded the people of the city with many new improvements, increasing
the quality of life, the population, and (most importantly) the amount of money
Kamesh will receive in the future. Who
said philanthropy was a bad thing?
THE
RAJPUTATE OF TARAIN
Manjyot

KINGDOM OF KASHMIR
Maruthi
DIPLOMACY: Uzebek (EA)
After
his diplomatic conquest of the regions of Kashgar and Khotan, Balaguru was sent
by his father to DP the tribes of the Uzebek, with surprisingly good
results. The Seljuk passed through,
took one look at the area, fell over laughing, and moved on. Maruthi didn't know how to take it, but was
glad he was still alive.
JUNGARIA
Cevat
DIPLOMACY: none
Cevat
wanted land, but he was only one man.
What could he do? His son
Atadara officially attained the title of Heir to the throne.
THE
SELJUK HORDE
Arsen
DIPLOMACY: Pssst . . . wake up!
See "Underfoot".
Underfoot
1006
- The Tribes of the Seljuk mobilized, and moved
through Uzebek, Kashmir and Und. The
Ghaznavids sent guides to the Seljuk, more than happy to get them off their
land as soon as possible.
Apr. 1007 - The Seljuk begin to move into the
region of Punjab. Drsalu sees the
writing on the wall, and begins to ready his forces for the inevitable fight.
Jun. 1007 - The battle begins. With the Seljuk forces of almost 100,000
cavalry against the Punjab forces of 4,200 cavalry and 8,400 footmen, it was
obvious that the sheer numbers of the horde would win the battle. And they did, only losing 800 men. The Punjab army was wiped out in one fell
swoop. Drsalu was captured, but
daringly escaped into his secret hiding location in the mountains, where his
son Amol was waiting.
Oct. 1007 - The three major leaders of the Seljuk
split up. Arsen stays and enslaves the
populace of Punjab. Kilij moves to
passively siege the capital of Amritsar, while Talik travels to the region of
Sukkur.
Jan. 1008 - In a customary raid against the Punjab
resistance in Amritsar, Kilij falls prey to a stray arrow, and is killed
instantly. Without their charismatic
leader, his massive army becomes unmanageable.
The siege of Amritsar is broken off, and the army becomes a rather large
garrison in the region of Punjab.
Feb. 1008 - Sick over seeing his country broken
up, Drsalu dies from battle complications.
His son Amol become the new Raj, and is given the task of finding a way
of ejecting the horde from their lands.
Mar. 1008 - Talik pacifies the region of Sukkur
with relative ease.
Jun. 1008 - Finished enslaving the population of
Punjab, Arsen begins the travel to Sahis.
Jun. 1008 - With the local armies in check, Talik
begins the process of enslaving the population of Sukkur.
Aug. - Oct. 1008 - Following a
time-honored pattern, Arsen pacifies the region of Sahis, and then takes every
able-bodied man as slaves of the Seljuk.
May 1009 - Talik joins Arsen in Sahis, combining
all of the gold and slaves acquired from the Punjab lands.
Jun. 1009 - Arsen begins the passive siege of the
city of Lahore.
Aug. 1009 - The population of Lahore try one
last-ditch attack on the horde. While
it failed to break the siege, the second-in-command of the Seljuk, Talik, was a
victim of this attack. Arsen alone
moved into the city, claiming it as his own.
THE
GHAZNAVID EMPIRE
Mahmud,
The Right Hand of Government, Scourge of India.
DIPLOMACY: Transoxania (A)
Mahmud
received advanced warning about the Seljuk movement. He heard of their plans to invade India, and he liked them. Number One: Their plans didn’t involve the
loss of anything of worth from his country.
Number Two: He was the “Scourge
of India”, after all, he had to like anything that struck fear in the heart of
the subcontinent. So he sent along
guides to help see the Seljuk to their destination.
Lieutenants
Ibrihim and Mustapha were sent to Transoxania on a diplomatic mission. Working together, they managed to extract a
full alliance out of the peoples.
The
Middle East
THE
BUHWAYID SULTANATE
al-Basasiri,
Amir al-Umara, Shahanshah.
DIPLOMACY: none
The
Caliph was outraged that the Banu even think about pillaging his sacred
land. He immediately shored up his
defenses in Mesopotamia, Selucia, Hahmar, and Kuwait. He gathered his armies and his leaders together, and waited for
the Banu to dare try it again. The
Hilal were smart enough mot to.
Baha
al-Dowlah died in 1009, and his son al-Basasiri retained the title of Caliph.
THE
SULTANATE OF SHEBA
Khaled
DIPLOMACY: none
The Shebans suddenly
found a rather large horde on their doorstep.
In return for food, they would leave them alone. Unfortunately, the southwestern part of the
Arabian Peninsula is not exactly known as the “Breadbasket of the Middle
East.” The Shebans were unable to meet
the demands of the Hilal, so they found themselves at the unfortunate end of a
looting.
THE
FATAMID CALIPHATE OF EGYPT
Al-Hakim,
Caliph of Egypt.
DIPLOMACY: none
Seemingly
oblivious to the horde movements to his east, al-Hakim fortified another
front. Port fortresses were built on
Sinai and in Ad-Diffah. After ruling
his country passively for a few years, he then picked up his army, and
patrolled the Mediterranean, protecting his sea borne interests from pirates.
Kassal
went around the large kingdom, and slowly conducted a census. Almost understandably, he died of exhaustion
after completing it.
Sennar
was granted a personal guard of 400 infantry.
With it, he traveled south to the land of the Zagwe and official began
trading with them. After failing to map
a route to Socotra, he returned to the north coast and helped his Caliph
protect the sea from pirates.
THE
BANU HILAL & BALU SULAIM
Banu
Hilal
DIPLOMACY: DIPLOMACY?
The hordes of the
Hilal travel west, entering the land of the Sheba. When the Shebans can’t come up with enough food to satisfy their
demands, they loot the regions, taking gold and agro the old-fashioned
way.
After taking all
moveable wealth from Aden and Nadramurt, they move into Mecca. Knowing that taking one ounce of wealth from
Mecca would mean the entire Muslim world would be out to get them, the Banu put
themselves on their best behavior, and make a pilgrimage.
But knowing that there
is more gold out there for the taking, they travel into Tiahamat to try to convince
the tribes of the Dahy to join their band of thieves. The Dahy said more than just no.
A long battle was fought, and surprisingly, the Banu were on the losing
end of it. 18600 cavalry were lost to
the fierce fighters of the Dahy. The
leader of the Hilal was wounded, and the leader of the Sulaim was outright
killed. The massive horde was pushed
into Safajah, content to lick their wounds and fight another day.
Africa
Cav count: No horses yet
THE
COPTIC KINGDOM OF ZAGWE
Mera
Tekle Haimanot, Founder of the Zagwe Dynasty.
DIPLOMACY: Axum (NT)
Mera
remains sedentary, content to rule his country. The founder of the Zagwe dynasty welcomed another addition into
said dynasty: a son born in 1009.
Lalabela
traveled around the kingdom, and dispensed regional garrisons to keep the
people peaceful and happy. He then
returned to Sennar, and ruled alongside his father.
Dil
stays in Axum, and talked the locals into increasing the Zagwe claim to their
lands ever so slightly.
THE
EMIRATE OF ZEILA
al'Amas
DIPLOMACY: Berbera (T)
al'Amas harangued the leaders of Berbera into
recognizing the benefits of joining the Zeila emirate. Yeah, that’s the same as last turn.
THE
KINGDOM OF ROZWI
Luwesi,
King of the Rozwi.
DIPLOMACY: Kafue (EA), Banhine (A)
Good things come to those who wait. The city of Mbagwn was built in Kafue,
ending 10 long years of work. With the
new city as leverage, the peoples of Kafue joined into an economic alliance
with Buruni. He also completed a census
before succumbing to a heart attack in 1009.
Luwesi
and Merwu traveled to Banhine. After an
impromptu coronation ceremony, the leaders of the region were more than glad to
accept a full alliance with the Rozwi crown.
The death of Ohini in 1008 was more than the beleaguered
kingdom of Akan could take. It
dissolved into the harsh African countryside.
THE
KINGDOM OF KANEM-BORNU
Lamne
Mesewo, King of the Kanem and Bornu.
DIPLOMACY: none
This space for rent. The Kanem-Bornu need the advertising revenues.

Kumbayal
Isano, King of the Songhai.

Ibrahim,
Emir of Mombassa
DIPLOMACY: Mombassa (A)
Ibrihim
built 2 warships as a personal guard for Sayid. Sayid then traveled to Mombassa, and showed them off to his
friends. Pleased with the workmanship
shown by the Zanzibari shipyards, Mombassa agreed to a full alliance.
Eastern
Europe
THE
KINGDOM OF BOLGAR
Kamal
DIPLOMACY: Nogai (A)
Kamal
figured that the best way to survive the harsh terrain of Eastern Europe was to
band together as closely as possible.
He was always the touchy-feely kind of person. He courted the officials of Nogai, and they agreed to a full
alliance with the Bolgar.
KHANATE
OF KHAZARIA
DIPLOMACY: none
A
slight epidemic affect the rules of the Khazars. The Khan of Vasi died, with his territory becoming fully
incorporated with the Khazars. The Khan
of Saksiny died as well, but his territory preferred a less binding tribute to
a full-out alliance.
With
the missionaries of the Patriarch bringing the Good News to the Khazar royal
family, they converted the nation to Eastern Orthodoxy. Not willing to give up the religion of their
forefathers so easily, Kuban, Patzinak, and Saksiny revolted.
One
of the easiest tenets of his new religion Gunduz found was to “be fruitful and
multiply”. He had a son born in 1008,
and then twins, one of each gender, born in 1009.
THE
BYZANTINE EMPIRE
Basileos
Vasilios II, The Bulgar-Slayer, Emperor of the Romans.
DIPLOMACY: Abasigia (NT)
Vasileos
loaned 600 of the best soldiers ever seen to the Patriarch for his
protection. With plenty of other
national leaders to do his dirty work for him, he sat back and ruled.
Heir
to the Throne Georgios Maniakes reacted to any threat that the horde may cause
to Byzantine lands. None occurred, so
he and his Khazar wife Theodora had a son in 1010.
Symeon
assembled the vast Byzantine fleet, once dissembled to bring order to the
Empire’s waterways, under his command.
He then tries to diplomacize the obstinate Abasigians again. This time, some headway was made.
Undercover
agent Muhammed went looking for anti-Christian influences in
Constantinople. He found nothing.
THE
PATRIARCHATE OF THE EASTERN ORTHODOX CHURCH
Boniface
VI , Patriarch of Constantinople
DIPLOMACY: Thrace (MN), Bithnia (AB), Attica
(MN)
Sergius
was overjoyed to hear that the missionaries he sent to the Khazars officially
decided to convert to Christianity. In
his joy, he sent much food to the Rus, and then traveled to Thrace, and began
to set up a monastery. He died shortly
after. The monastery was completed, and
it served as the final burial site of Sergius.
The
remaining leaders of the Church came together, and elected Cosmas to the
position of Patriarch, taking the name Boniface VI. After the official ceremonies, he traveled to Bithnia, and helped
build a new abbey.
Leo
was sent to Attica, and founded a monastery.
THE
VARANGIAN EMPIRE OF KIEVIAN RUS
Svatopok,
Kniaz of Kiev.
DIPLOMACY:
Polotsk(F), Smokensk(FA), Livonia(F)
With
the agro received from the Patriarch, and gold from the coffers, the city of
Pskov was expanded.
Vladimir
died in 1007, giving way to his son Svatopok to become the new King. Svatopok left the capital for Polotsk, where
he married and help secure the region to the full fealty of the Rus, with much
fanfare. Leaving Polotsk with his new
wife, he diplomatically agreed to a feudal alliance with the leaders of
Smolensk. He then returned to the
capital to celebrate the birth of his son.
Ivan’s
diplomatic trips were less heralded, but just as successful. He brought the region of Livonia fully into
the reach of the Russians.
THE
KINGDOM OF HUNGARY
Istvan
I, King of Hungary.
DIPLOMACY: none
Slept.
THE
KINGDOM OF POLAND

I King of the Poles.
DIPLOMACY: Little Poland (F), Bochnia (A)
Boleslaw stayed home, and sired a son in
1010. Wladislaw finished the job of
diplomacy in Little Poland when they agreed to a friendly relationship. He then entered Bochnia, where his marriage
helped garner a full alliance from the local leaders.
Western
Europe
AL-ANDALUS:
THE CALIPHATE OF CORDOBA
Al-Mansur
bi-Allah, Victorious by the Grace of God, Vizier of the Caliph of Cordoba.
DIPLOMACY: none
Slept.
CHRISTIAN
SPAIN
Henry,
King of Catalonia, Defender of the Faith.
DIPLOMACY: none
With no movement in the south, Henry was free to
do whatever he wanted. He decided to
sit in the castle and rule.
THE
ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Benedict
VIII, Bishop of Rome.
DIPLOMACY: Sardinia (NE), Tuscany (NT), Florence
(C), Spoleto (NE)
Sylvester
sent missionaries to convert the heathens in Sardinia, Croatia, Salamanca, and
Trondheim. While the Sardinians
immediately executed the missionaries - save for Cardinal Adelbert, the other
missions were successes.
Sylvester
also began to extract small tithes from his flock. England, Venice, France, and Spain all agreed to pay a small
portion of their income to the Church.
There were other countries on his list, but he died in 1009 before
completing his work.
Sylvester’s
Heir, Benedict VIII, took up the official miter of the papacy in the middle of
a diplomatic conference. He was sent to
Romagna and Ravenna to join the Papacy.
The problem was they were already possessions of the HRE, who in turn
was passing them off to Venice. The
Romanians and Benedict agreed that reducing Venice’s hold on them to a simple
claim would be prudent.
Bruno
traveled to Tuscany and convinced the locals that they were better off being a
part of the Papacy, not the Holy Roman Empire.
He gave the same song and dance to Florence. Both renounced their small ties to the HRE and proclaimed small
ties to the Holy See.
Continuing
the theme of the papacy taking land away from other nations, Roshetti was sent
to Spoleto to try and gain influence there, but to no effect.
SAXON
ENGLAND
Edmund,
King of England.
DIPLOMACY: Northumbria (EA), Lancashire (NT),
Mercia (A), Nottingham (EA), Anglia (A)
As
his final act, Ethelred oversaw the most accurate accounting of his people
England had ever seen. He promptly fell
off his horse on his return to London, and died from complications soon
following.
The
new King, Edmund, was in Northumbria at the time, securing an economic alliance
with the local landowners. Then it was
off to Lancashire, where a treaty of non-aggression was the only thing Edmund
could weasel out of the locals.
Aelfric
completed a whistle stop diplomatic tour of Mercia, Nottingham, and
Anglia. All were amazing successes.
THE
KINGDOM OF SCOTLAND
Malcolm
II, King of the Scots
DIPLOMACY: none
Slept.
THE
KINGDOM OF FRANCE
Robert
the Pious, King of France
DIPLOMACY: Normandy (ne), Anjou (ne)
King
Robert stayed in Normandy, charming the leaders and his wife. With respect to the leaders, no headway was
made. With respect to the wife, a
daughter was born in 1006.
Baron
Fulk traveled to Anjou, and met with the same difficulties that his King faced
in getting Anjou to agree to any increased diplomatic ties.
THE
HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE
Otto
III, Holy Roman Emperor.
DIPLOMACY: Burgundy (A), Champagne (A), Holland
(F), Brabant (EA)
Otto ceded the provinces of Verona, Romagna
(with the city of Ravenna), and Lombardy to Venice. He also ceded Holstein & Hamburg to his neighbors to the
north, Denmark. Aside from the border
shifting, Otto was content to rule from his capital.
Heir
to the throne Conrad was given control of the military, and defended the Rhine
River. Which he did for 6 months, until
he died in his sleep?
Lieutenants
Matthias, Karl, and Sebastian were all sent out to improve the public standing
of the King in certain areas. All three
performed their duties admirably, and returned home with very positive results.
THE
DUCHY OF VENICE
Orseolo,
Duke of Venice
DIPLOMACY: Slovenia (A), Illyria (down to FA),
Croatia (C)
Orseolo
ordered the construction of Valetta, in Malta.
This, he hoped, would give him access to better trading
opportunities. He went to Slovenia, and
talked the leaders into a full alliance.
He then went to Illyria, and talked the leaders into reneging on their
previous agreement and downgrading to a feudal ally. Guess it all averages out…
Giovanni
spent his time in Croatia, furthering the cause of the Duke. The unfriendliness of the Croats meant that
only a small claim would be conceded to the Venetians.
Frederick
went around to the provinces of Verona, Romagna, and Lombardy, and officially
accepted them from the HRE. He then
retired to Spoleto, becoming the liaison between the Duke and the province.
THE
JARLDOM OF NORWAY
Olaf
Tryggvason, Jarl of Norway
DIPLOMACY: Dublin (FA)
Olaf
continued to harangue the Dublin leaders about joining the Norwegians. Although the feudal alliance was a nice
start, Olaf knew that it would take a long time before the Dubliners would
accept his full control.
In
order to keep the appearance of the evil Scandinavian, Olaf led a raid against
Ulster. It didn’t work, but at least he
maintained his race-given reputation as an evil rogue.
Svien
Forkbeard, Jarl of Denmark
DIPLOMACY: Holstein (F), Hamburg (FA)
Ach,
what would his father say? Giving up
the warmongering ways of his ancestors, Svein bartered with the residents of
Holstein rather than fighting them.
Hey, it worked. Holstein is now
a complete part of the Danish empire.
Harald
was sent out at request of Svein to diplomacize Hamburg. He ended up with less in the end, but Svein
was still pleased.
THE
JARLDOM OF SWEDEN
Olaf
Skotkonrung, Jarl of Sweden
DIPLOMACY: none
Slept.

THE
ANASAZI
Great
Bear
DIPLOMACY: Moache (A)
Great
Bear found enough gold to help build the village of Black Rock in
Chiricaua. He also hired workers to
begin beating a road between Tiwa and Gilla, in the hopes of someday having a
clear channel of communication between them.
After
committing the necessary funds for those projects, he set himself on conducting
a census and furthering his dynasty. He
succeeded on both counts. The census
turned up many new sources of income, and his wife bore a son in 1006, another
son in 1007, and a daughter in 1010.
