Assad, Lord regent for Caliph Fidel
Diplomacy
1026: The Christian forces wait patiently as reinforcements are marched south from france and while the Venetians raise mercenaries in Barcelona.
1027: The Venetian army and its mercenary contingent march south and take Valencia. After the easy conquest they start burning mosques and slaughtering Imams. The Doge outlaws muslim worship. Late in the fall the French and HRE army starts to cross into Talavera.
1028: The French and HRE forces force tribute from Talavera, then turn south east and cross into Murcia. In Valencia the Venetians put down a brief uprising and spend the rest of the year burning mosques and hunting down any muslim religious leaders.
1029 A great battle takes place as the French and HRE forces, 13,600 strong, smash into the Cordoban army of 8,800 men. In a hard fought battle the men of Cordoba are able to force a stalemate. The Regent of Cordoba regroups and another battle is soon fought a few miles away. This time the weakened forces of Cordoba are battred badly and break when the Regent is killed. The muslim forces retreat into Cordoba as the Christian army sets up siege lines. The Venetian army arrives from Valencia after the battle and joins in the siege.
1030: Many many months of starvation finally take their toll and in
August the proud city surrenders and the Cordoban state, what is left of it, breaks apart.

After taking Verona Duke Robert marched across northern Italy forcing tribute upon the locals, though he avoided any type of siege against the cities that nominally still swore allegiance to the Holy Roman Emperor. Prince Friedrich and Giselle travelled to Naples where they soon started a family, the young couple had two sons in these years.
(Roman Catholic Seafaring Open Empire)
Domenico I Orseolo, Doge of Venice
Diplomacy: Catalonia (f), Valencia (p)
Doge Pietro was pleased with that the war in Spain was going well, but it was no time to let up. So mercenaries were again hired for the war effort (see Cordoba) and the Doge raided the coast for slaves before heading east to help the Seljuks make war against the Fatamids (see Seljuk Turks). At home the city of Venice was host for a royal wedding between Giselle of Normandy and Prince Friedrich of Alsace, son of the Holy Roman Emperor. Duke Robert and the Norman host, who had pledged to fight in Spain on crusade against the muslims, arrived in Venuce in late fall of 1026AD. The wedding took place and the young german Prince was given a post in the Norman court. The Norman army wintered outside of Venice and waited for warm weather before making the trip to Spain to fight for Christendom. But over the winter interaction between the Normans and the locals led to hostility and Duke Robert himself took great offenese (over what is not known) at something a lesser noble of Venice said at one point. The Duke, not known for his calm demeanor, flew into a rage at the insult and stewed as warm weather came. The Venetians began to suspect all was not well when the Duke's army did not leave for Spain as the spring turned to summer. For long months the Normans just sat outside Venice and then in late summer of 1027 AD a Swedish fleet appeared off the harbor and the Normans moved to set up siege lines. The Swedes moved on the harbor, all manor of shipping was siezed (regardless of nationality) and the harbor blockaded. After weeks of pressing the siege a breach was made in Venice's walls in late september and into the city the Norman troops poured. The city's defenses were not all they should have been as just months before the siege began the city had much of its garrison gathered up and marched away to help in Spain. So the poorly defended city fell rather easily. The Normans sat in Venice over the winter but in the Spring of 1028 AD the normans sacked Venice, they then put the once great city to the torch! Duke Robert then marched away to take his war to the rest of Italy (see Normandy)
In Spain Prince Domenico learned of the fall and destruction of Venice, and of his fathers death. He did the best he could to establish a court in Barcelona. The young Doge had been negotiating with the Catalonian nobles and soon a firm understanding was had. The christians of Catalonia embraced the Doge and the treaty was sealed with Domenico I marrying Sancha Jimenez, a young noble woman and cousin of the late King of the Spanish Marches.

Robert the Pious,
Diplomacy: Talavera (pt), Murcia (p), Cordoba (p), Brabant (t)
While the King worked to arrange tribute from Brabant, a large number of reinforcements were raised and dispatched to Spain for the final battle (see Cordoba)
Local villages on the coast reported men dressed very strange, with ships of unusual design and darker of skin, had landed and talked with some of the locals briefly but never stayed long. Many of the villagers claimed they were demons sent by God to destroy them. But the strange men were always gone before any of the King's officials arrived.

Butrat was startled to see some Khazar messangers ride into his camp. "What is this? Have the Khazar returned from the south?" The Khazar horsemen brought him a message from Bulchan Khan. He was urged to travel south and establish the Bolgar in the rich lands of Mesopotamia. Kubrat sent the messanger back with no answer. Kubrat considered it, but who would come south with him, the Suvar? no, the Urkel? no, the Nogai? no. "I too yearn for riches, father' offered Aydar, Kubrat's heir "but I do not feel it is right for us to put needless risk on our people in a strange land when riches and conquest can be found her". Kubrat nodded "You are right. The Bulgar shall not ride to the land between the rivers. Take the army my son, ther are rich lands east of Kara-Kum. Let the people fear the name of Bulgar!" Aydar smiled and went to war. The Bulgar host went east and were joined by the feudal levees from the Suvar and Urkel. They marched down the eastern bank of the Caspian Sea and raided the Ghuzz and Turkman and took slaves from Khwarzim. On the return trip home Aydar stopped in Nogai and arranged stronger ties with his wife's people before returning to his father's camp with the booty and slaves.

Kilij,
Diplomacy:
1026: Kilij Khan was determined to stomp out the last of the Fatamid dynasty. The Seljuk host marched north into Egypt. They were not challenged as the hand full of the Caliph's defenders fell back into Alexandria. The Khan isolated the city and prevented anything from getting into or out of Alexandria over land. The city was still able to be supplied by sea however.
After receiving some reinforcements, a Roman army began marching south from Aleppo and arrived in the Levant as winter came.
1027: In March the Venetian navy arrived off Alexandria and promptly blockaded the port, the much smaller Fatamid navy did not challenge them. The Roman army (and Navy moving along the coast, shadowing the armies march south) arrived in mansura in may and began crossing the nile to try and liberate Egypt. The Roman navy, now joined by the Fatamid force attacked the Venetian fleet blockading Alexandria in June. The Roman/Fatamid force was double the size of the Venetian force and used that fact to pound the Venetian fleet. Doge Pietro was killed in the fighting. The Venetians lost 68 ships while their adversaries lost only 34. The Venetian fleet retreated to Malta. With the blockade broken supplies of food and grain began to flow back into the hungry city. The following month the Roman army engaged the Turkish host outside Alexandria. The Roman army, 40,000 strong, faced 63,000 or so Turks. The Roman army fought hard, but the Turkish cavalry was able to turn their right flank. In the panic that followed the retreating Roman army suffered terribly. They would end up losing half their army(20,000 men) in the disaster while the Turks lost only 5,200. Phocas took the army back across the nile and regrouped. The Roman navy began loading the army on ships and as winter came the Roman army unloaded into Alexandria to help defend their allies capital. The Turks had soundly thrashed the Roman army in the field, but with no navy to blockade and a sizeable Roman force in Alexandria a siege (passive or active) didn't look promising.
1028: The Khan frustrated at not being able to Take Alexandria crossed the Nile and conqured Mansura he then returned to Egypt and brooded outside Alexandria's walls.
1029-1030: quiet as both sides think on what to do...

Bulchan Khan,
Diplomacy: What's that?
1026: The Khan needed Gold! The Romans had not come through in the previous years so the coffers were a bit light for Bulchan's taste. As in the previous years the Khan split his army, he and his son took the larger portion and went east while the allied Khans were sent south. In the east the Khan marched through Dasht'Kavir and into Firoz Kohi. The region began to be pacified as the year ended. In the south the allied Khans travelled to Neyriz where they pacified the area then set up siege lines to starve out the city of Shiraz, though the city was still holding out at years end.
1027: Bulchan finished pacifying Firoz Kohi and set up siege lines around Herat. The leaderless city tried to hold out, but hunger and bad morale forced the city to surrender in May, only a few weeks later the Ghaznavid army showed up to break the siege...to late thought the Ghaznavid general "Curse them, lets punish these pagans!" The evening before the battle hooded men had snuck into the Khazar camp and poisoned the Khan's meal. It did not kill the Khan but he was badly ill. The Ghaznavids tried to take advantage of this and attacked. The Ghaznavid army, bolstered by mercenaries brought to the field about 21,000 men to face the 19,000 or so Khazar. Neither side performed very well and the battle was a series of blunders and ineffective attacks on both sides, but toward late afternoon the Ghaznavid General was killed and his army lost heart and retreated from the field, they'd lost 4,800 men. The Khazars had lost 4,000 but won the day. After the battle the Khazar sacked Herat, they then enslaved the regions population and started to cross into Kophat Dagh.
In the south the siege continued and the city finally surrendered in May, the city was sacked and the region enslaved.
1028: Khophat Dagh was pafified and the city of merv was isolated and for months the people went hungry. In July the city surrender and was sacked. The remainder of the year was spent enslaving the land.
To the south the allied Khans marched through Mand and into Bandar, the region was pacified but the Allied Khans could not starve out Abbass to their shagrin. The city simply sent ships down the coast for supplies. So in a fury the Allied Khans enslaved the land and cut off Abbass from overland communication. This still would not let them starve out the city, but it did end Abbass as a trading center (thus cutting off all sea trade for the Ghaznavid as this is their only port)
1029: The Khan marched into Khurasan and pacified the land. Like before the city was starved into submission and sacked as fall came. In the south the allied Khans marched back to Persia with their booty and slaves.
1030: The Khan marched back to persia with the gold and Ghaznavids slaves.

Diplomacy: mesopotamia (p), Mosul (p), Mosul city (p)
Emir Ibrihim was feeling his age, it was time at last he admitted to himself that he needed to allow the next generation to take the field of honor and fight in his place. So he sent off General Omar and his son, Prince Hassan, to take the war to the Buhwayid. The Basran host was bolstered by a large levy of mercenaries. Numbering over 23,000 men, the army marched north into Mesopotamia. There the Caliph of the Buhwayid was busy recolonizing the devestated land. The small Buhwayid army tried to flee but was outmanuevered and brought to bay, and then slaughtered. The Caliph perished with his men in the lopsided afair. Not content the army marched north and took Mosul without challenge and then the city of Mosul fell after a short siege. Victorious the army marched home where they were greeted with the news of Emir Ibrihim's death. The old warhorse had passed away in his sleep. His son Fasad was proclaimed Emir in his place.

Somewhat frustrated the King was told that a Gujerati army was marching down from the north. Gujerat had 9,000 men, but the Anhivarti host numbered 11,000. The King used these numbers (and the poor skill of the Gujerati general) to crush the Gujerati force. The Gujerati army fled north leaving behind 4,400 dead. The men of Anhivarta suffered only 1,400 casualties. The army wintered and then in the Spring of 1027 marched north into the desert of Jats, the harsh terain slowed things down but by august the army had forced the locals to pay tribute. The army then turned its eye on sind and started to cross the border into Ghaznavid lands as winter came. In the spring of 1028 they entered Sind and spent the early summer beating the locals down and forcing them to promise to pay tribute. The fall and early spring of the following year saw them do the same in Edrosia. The army then march back to Surashtra. Admiral Ganuseda was sent east across the unknown sea with 12 armed ships and 800 men. A brief stop in Bermuda for some talks and then the fleet put out into the unknown. Their first sighting of land was a group of islands the locals called the 'Azores'. They continued east to find land and came upon the coast line. Going ashore they tried to talk to the startled natives. It was clear this was a land that had recently seen war. They discovered a city that had clearly been sacked called "Lisbon'. But talks with the natives proved difficult and Ganuseda soon abandoned any idea of trying to engaged in serious diplomacy, at least on this the first voyage (first of many he hoped). The culture seemed very different and the natives seemed to have some weird religion. Ganuseda had brought a group of priests along and they told the Admiral the natives were backwards savages who had a child like religion. So, with the cultural differences something to work out later Ganuseda continued his treck to find the unknown. He sailed north along the coast occasionally going ashore for supplies. The farther north his journey took him the fairer of skin the people became. The people in 'Portugal' were indeed lighter skinned than his men, but as he visited place in the land called 'France' and across the narrow sea into a place called 'Britain' the people became truly lighter, both of skin and hair. It fascinated many of his men and on more than one occasion he had to threaten violence to keep his men from taking women from small local villages. The voyage took them further north into places that were very cold and groups of small islands were found, places called 'Shetlands' and 'Faeroes' by the locals. The locals seemed rather barbarous and warlike so Ganuseda did not linger in these places but he learned there might be a path northwest across the sea so he sailed out. He found a larger rocky island called 'Ice land' and then sailed even further west and eventually came up the waters of the Labrador sea. He had found familiar land at last. His fleet sailed south to home where they told their tale and made their report to the King.

The Admiral returned to Cahokia where more colonist and soldiers were loaded onto ships. This time the trip down the snake river led them off the coast of Karankawa. The locals fled before the soldiers and soon the colonist were building a city. But weeks later the forces of Caddo showed up to investigate the invaders. King Wovoka of Caddo, with almost 20,000 men, smashed the small beach head. The cannon of the Caddo forces decimated the small Michigamean army. Admiral Awakal fled to his ships and put out to sea to get his fleet out of range of the guns. The colonist were slaughtered along with the soldiers of Michigamea. King Wovoka sent a messanger off to Cahokia to inform them that a state of war existed now.

The Toltec Emperor Huemac decided not to send Mixcoatl back to the new world he'd discovered this left Mixcoatl in a depression and the admiral spent his days sitting in Natzo harbor drinking in large quantities. The Emperor seemed more concerned with the bottom line and a great deal of the nations assets were put toward expanding and improving the Empire's trade network.

Several cities were built and the nations diplomats went to work as well. Yet the big news at court was the Toltec discovery of a land across the sea full of dark skinned savages. Admiral Tlal was given 20 light (unarmed) ships and sent north to Bermuda, the fleet then turned east and followed the current. Weeks later they came upon a group of Islands the locals called 'Azores'. They then pushed eastward and before long discovered a place that had seen recent war. Only putting ashore to get fresh water and food the fleet then sailed south looking for a possible current back home. Ever south they travelled along the coast occasionally going ashore for supplies and trying to talk to the local people. The natives became darker skinned as they travelled south and were very black by the time they reached a land the natives called 'Takrur'. Tlal turned west and out to sea but bad weather cost him 2 of his ships, after regaining his way after the storm he discovered a group of islands. There was a strong current west and the admiral followed it fairly sure it would lead him home. Indeed it would for weeks later he arrived off the South American coast in the Suriname sea, an area well known to him. The Admiral sailed for Lucatzlca where he told his tale and had maps copied showing his discovery and sending the news and charts off to the Imperial Capital.
