LORDS OF THE EARTH

CAMPAIGN 11

TURN #61

1201 - 1205

RULES IN USE 5.8.3

So if you don't have a copy either download them from the

Throneworld site or order a paper copy from Thomas!

Any or all of your support cost can be paid by nfp at 1nfp = 2gp

Recruitment A Merchant house, Open Nation, or Secret Empire may spend gp in 25gp blocks to attempt to get nfp for Megalithic Projects. Base amount is 1d6 -1 for open nations and -2 for SEs. Note to SEs zero or less nfp result may get you exposed.

I am using the Lords 17 combat system.

Note that the Combat values for Warships are what they are worth in land combat. For Naval combat they are as follows HEW = 3, HW = 2, EW = 2.25, W = 1.5, XEW = 1.5, XW = 1

Troops on ships Elite Infantry any Type = 1.5

A siege point = 500 sappers or 5 ballista, catapults, siege engines, trebuchets or battle towers.

A field fort point = 1 fort manned by 500 men each.

A wall point = 10 feet of city wall ramparts.

GM Notes

To ease the transition all of you have had your ISD raised a point and auto rule is set but this won't last so get your houses in order

On turn 62 Your ISD's will be set to the correct levels

On turn 63 Auto Rule will be turned off

On turn 64 I will do a massive CCR check, which I haven't been doing to allow you time to get your houses in order. All regions outside CCR will take multiple checks.

Please take a look at the map in your area and let me know of any differences between it and what is on your stat sheet

My email is phillipbaird@sprintmail.com

Because I don't like "Magic" Numbers I am using percentages for basically all bonuses i.e. normally for every 5 ap extra spent on an action you get a +1. Now each ap is worth +0.20. So 5ap still gets you +1 but instead of 4ap being useless it has an 80% chance of getting you a +1. Same basic system is used for gp bonuses.

The Intel assault on the Nutqak Horde

Having decided his army was not ready to meet the Nutqak in open battle Luqe turned to his massive Intel apparatus aided by the Great Wheel who were rather annoyed by all the destroyed shrines.

The assaults on the government of the Nutqak failed miserably. The attempt on the Khans life just barely failed due to quick action by his bodyguards.  The Khans right hand man was not so lucky. The Khans heir was kidnapped but the attempt on his daughter failed. Close to 2,500gp were stolen from the treasury. Luqe even ran an operation against the ally who died last turn. Why I don't know. Then the mutinies started. (see Nutqak)

THE KINGDOM OF BURMA

Diplomacy:Dvaravat (ne)

Jemonga was expanded

Royal roads were built from Kunming to Paise to Tai'Li

Barttholm decided that he would continue his war with the Khemer.  So first thing he did was send all his assassins off to kill the king of Khemer. The kings’ bodyguard hardly had to work up a sweat to stop the pathetic fools. Bartholum then gathered up every able body in the country and went off to kill the Khemer Dog.  He marched into Surin with 185,000 men at which point the

Khemere assassins waiting for the first invading army struck.  Having a little better luck then there Burmese counter parts they managed to wound Barttholum just as the battle was starting. The Khemer had 65,000 men over a quarter of them elite.  The Burmese advantages of Cavalry and numbers were cancelled by the Khemer's being on friendly territory and their elite troops. The Khemer had a slight advantage in overall leadership. While the Khemer inflicted more losses on the Burmese about 10% of the Khemer versus 20% for the Burmese the Khemer troops just weren't interested in staying arround and pulled back into Battamdang.

The Burmese then commenced their siege of the city. Charge went the Burmese. Splat went the Burmese. Close to 80% of the army died on the walls inflicting on marginal casualties on the Khemer.  Barrtholum decided the call off the next attempt since he wanted an army left and commenced a passive siege.

 The Steppe Report

After 20 years of hordes racing back and forth across them the steppes are pretty well empty except for a few spots. It will probably be a few generations before anymore really big Hordes appear.

NUTQAK HORDE

( ? )

THE MUTINY

The troops were in an uproar rumor had it that the Khan was thinking of going back into the meat grinder of china looking for more loot.  Why?  Each man had more than his horse could carry anyway.  The Khan heard the muttering and told the men that while he lived the Horde would go where he told it to.  Well the men said that was easily fixed.  So splat went the Khan. Then the men needed to decided who was going to lead them and it looked like this might take awhile to decide. Then somebody said why don't we get away from here and back out on the steppes and decide.  So the whole Horde moved off to Khingan on the northern steppes picking up a few new members on the way. There they settled down to discuss who was to rule the Horde now. Some of Udabei's relatives thought they obviously should but after the first few who put themselves forward were chopped up into little bits the rest decided to forget the idea. After awhile it was decided that whoever could get the most men to support him would be the new Khan. So some of the most popular soldiers were put forward and the men gathered around the one they liked best.  The smaller groups would form alliances with larger and join them. Until it was down to two groups one slightly larger than the other. The leader of the larger group saw it was easily possible that the Horde could destroy itself and after a meeting with the leader of the smaller group it was decided he would lead and the leader of the smaller group would be his right hand man and take over if anything happened to him. [ The birth of Horde democracy 1 sword = 1 vote :-) ]

Now it was time to decide what to do. No more china that was for sure. He liked his new job and the things that went with it like breathing etc. A quick trip to visit the tribes on the Pohai border before he headed back across the Northern steppes to end the turn in Naiman with about 650,000 men.

TAVARHOD HORDE

Kawan

OPEN FOR A PLAYER

Kwan decided he wouldn't be shown up by the Nutqak and their visit to China so he decided to kill a nation. He chose Khalistan since it was close by.  But to prove he was better than the Nutqak he decided to only send part of his army 400,000 men. He and the rest would journey around the steppes looking for more allies.

    The Death of Khalistan

The main part of the invasion group was led by the ally from Cim with over 250,000 men he headed strait for the capital. He was meet by several assassins but all were easily caught and killed. Darshan pulled his troops back to his homeland to make a final defense there. With not even 100,000 troops he was badly outnumbered.  Not to mention the fact that when added together all the available Khalistani leaders were barely the equals of the Cim leader not to mention his help. It was over in one bloody round the entire Khalistani army was dead 15,000 nomads were dead. Every Khalistani leader was dead or captured. The nomads then split up and started enslaving and raiding the entire country every region in the country except Himchal, Vats and Janapur was gutted.  Many refugees were seen headed toward Tanjore and Buyid fleeing the terror of the nomads.  In the ensuing raids and enslavement operation the Cim ally and one other leader were both killed. The allied troops fully joined the Horde on their leaders death.  (GM note yes you can get killed doing raid orders)

Kwan meanwhile headed out looking for more allies First he made a loop out to Irysh and back to Tarhain. Picking up new members for his horde. He then headed out through Betpak, Ryatka, Saraba, Ayguz, Chuguchak and Ishikotrau picking up new members. He then headed down through Kuldja to Tarhim and then through Yarkand into Khotan and Adakh.  From there he moved into Punjab to join the rest of his Horde. The Tavarhod sit among the ruins of Lahore with close to 1,000,000 men.

On a side note Kwan found the ruins of a very old city in Siber. Many nomads from the surrounding area started coming to see the ruins and over time the location became a natural area for the nomads to meet and trade.

They then headed out and ended the turn in Oriot with close to 700,000 men.

THE KRITIC EXARCHATE OF GREECE

Justinian, Exarch of Crete, Basileus of the Greeks

Diplomacy: None

Crete was colonized to 2gp.  Paphlagonia was cultivated.

Justinian once again sent Zemarchos to try and take Constantinople.  Zemarchos was reinforced so his total force was over 30,000 men.  Versus the 17,000 men from Constantinople.  The Constantinoplese had a significant advantage overall due to being on the defensive. In the initial contact about 12% of the Constantinoplese and 25% of the Greeks were lost. Zemarchos barley held his forces together and prepared for another round of fighting. Some innovative tactics on Zemarchos's part let him get in some good licks on the Constantinoplese whose morale broke and they retreated into the city leaving Zemarchos who was wounded to deal with the leaderless forts. Which were taken care of in one quick round. Final losses were about 30% for the Constantinoplese had over 40% for the Greeks but they had taken the region and could now passive siege the city. Unfortunately Zemarchos lacked sufficient troops to isolate the city.

In other news Missionaries sent into Phaphalagonia were finally successful in converting a small portion of the people. Then the missionaries from the Patriarch showed up and finished the job.
