ANNOUNCEMENTS
UNIT CONSTRUCTION: I am now following all unit construction costs in the 5.5 version of the Rulebook (Table 13-4, page 113) except that elite units cannot be built unless you are Tech 6 or have a special, historically based exemption.  As a result all unit costs have changed.  This is a rundown on the build costs of basic units for each culture type in this game:

Naval Unit CV
Light & Medium Transports (1)
Heavy Transports (2)
Light Warships 1
Medium Warships 2
Heavy Warships 3

LIGHT AND HEAVY UNIT CO-OPERATION (Land units on land only):  Also for every heavy unit supported by a light unit of the same army class, that heavy unit gains +1 to their combat value.

UNIT CODE, LIGHT UNITS: For the sake of preventing confusing 'l' with '1', the code for all light units shall be 'x'.

MSP OF THE NEW SHIP UNITS: MSP (merchant shipping points) is now different from military Cargo costs.  Here's the MSP value chart of all the ship units:

Ship Type Code MSP
Undefined Merchants (Privately Owned) m 1
Light Transport xt 1
Medium Transport t 2
Heavy Transport ht 3
Light Warship xw 0
Medium Warship w .5
Heavy Warship hw 1
Elite Light Warship exw 0
Elite Medium Warship ew .5
Elite Heavy Warship ehw 1
UNIT CONVERSION:  I will assume all units to be regular.  However, if you wish you may want to convert your units to heavy & light.  You can convert 2 regular units to 1 heavy and 1 light, this is the only way you can get heavy units from your existing pool.  You can convert any or all of your regular units to light.  The deadline for this special type of conversion will be Turn #10 of Lords 12 & Turn #50 of Lords 11.

ADVANCED TACTICAL ATTACKING ORDERS: If you define your battlefield tactics, you will get a (sometimes substantial) bonus in battle.  The success of many of these actions are based on the leadership of your best general in the army.  Here's  list of the options you can order your army leaders to execute before the battle:

Field Battle Options (Mediveal Era)
AMBUSH (Defense only) Subtantial damage if successful.  Best in Mountain regions behind  Mounain ranges.  Good in wilderness.
CHARGE Doubles the combat value of Heavy units.  Lowers enemy morale if successful.
ENTRENCH (Defense only) doubles  the combat value of all infantry if successful.  Attacking siege engineer's combat value will triple against entrenched armies.
FAKE RETREAT A viable option for gifted combat leaders.  If sucessful, doubles the combat value of all your troops.
HIT AND RUN A viable option for hordes and fast armies.  Will whittle down enemy troops until unsuccessful.
HOLD GROUND Nullifies charge bonus of infantry and doubles combat value of light infantry of successful.
MOB ATTACK Default order if no other option are specified.  No advantages nor disadvantages.
ORDERED ADVANCE Increases battle morale, sometimes substantially.
SURROUND A viable option for hordes.  If successful, the army's combat value is doubled.
TAUNT (Elite units only)  A viable option to leaders with high Charisma.  Lowers enemy morale before and during the battle if successful.
Example: The Byzantines with their force of regular cavalry with light and elite infantry auxilliaries have defined their battle formation as "ORDERED ADVANCE".  In battle, they encounter the Pechnegs in  cultivated terrain who with their almost exclusively light cavalry force use "HIT AND RUN  then SURROUND".  In the battle the Byzantine break the Hit and Run tactacs and foil the surrounding effort with their ordered battle ranks, eventually leading to a Turkish rout.

Naval Battle Options (Mediveal Era)
AMBUSH (Defense only) Doubles combat value of your ships along coastlines, rivers and straits.  50% of casualty enemy ships will be captured.
AVOID DIRECT CONTACT All light land  and siege units on board your ships will inflict damage against enemy ships until unsuccessful.  Will foil Ram Charge.  Cannot capture enemy ships.
FAKE RETREAT A viable option for gifted combat leaders.  If sucessful, doubles the combat value of all your ships.  Will capture 50% of enemy casualty ships.
MOB ATTACK Default action.  No advantages nor disadvantages.  Will capture 50% of enemy casualty ships.
ORDERED ADVANCE Increases sailor morale, sometimes substantially. Will capture 50% of enemy casualty ships.
RAM CHARGE Adds 1 to the Combat value of your warships.  If successful will lower enemy morale.  Cannot capture enemy  ships.
SURROUND A viable option for armadas.  If successful, you will capture all enemy ships.
TAUNT (Elite units only)  A viable option to leaders with high Charisma.  Lowers enemy morale before and during the battle if successful.
If the two armies or navies use orders that will prevent direct engagement (say HOLD GROUND & FAKE RETREAT) then the attacker will resort to a more appropriate tactic depending the the leader's combat value.
If you can think of other battle options for the Medieval, Renaissance and Modern era of warfare, drop me a note.  I do not believe that I am the only student of historical warfare involved in Lords of the Earth.

NEW ACTION, DELEGATE AUTHORITY: If you wish to have your leaders act intelligently (and show initiative) rather than carry out your orders by rote, you may wish to Delegate Authority (DA) for part or the entire turn (minimum, 6 months).  Delegating Authority does have an effect on the loyalty of your leader.  Leaders with total stats that exceed the king's will become less loyal.  Otherwise, they will become more loyal over time.  How intelligent the leader acts in military situations is, of course, based on their leadership.  Delegating Authority is useful when your army is faced unexpected situations  in the course of turn events.

COMBAT EXPERIENCE: If your army survives an especially bloody battle then some or all of your units will advance to the next training level based on a successful roll against  the combat value of the army's leader.
Example: The Flemish force of 30hi 30xi 50c went into battle against the Saxons army of 40hi 40i 40xi.  After an excrusiating series of battles, the Flemish win with  27c left alive.  The Flemish leader has a Leadership of 9.  A roll of 7 was made against the leader, so therefore the 27c advance to 27ec.

SAVED NFP: If you save your NFP for 3 turns or more and  your saved NFP pool reaches 60 points or more there will be an increasing chance that your nation will suffer riots, revolution and economic slowdown.  Your NFP is your available labor force.  If they are not employed, they will get testy.

NAME YOUR LEADERS, NAME YOUR CITIES: If you have an unnamed leader, that leader will suffer a -1 penalty for every action that leader does.  If I am forced to name that leader for any reason, the leader suffers a -2 penalty for the duration of the turn.  If you have to name your leader 'Bozo Oat Bran' so be it.
Also any cities built without a name cannot be used for diplomatic bonus.  Name that city, please.

RELIGION OPS - Convert Pagan Chief (cpc): You can convert a neutral heathen region to your religion instead of having to resort to all those MW's. If your world religion (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hindu) can convert a pagan chief, the region will automatically follow.

MERC POOLS:  All areas of the world have available for hire as mercenaries, 10hi, 10i, 10c, 10w.  Minimum bid is .5 GP per unit, 1 GP for the heavy units.  Mercenaries assume the QR of your nation.

COLOR CODED NATION HEADERS: The Colors coded on each nation represents your technology level.  GREY is Tech 1 & 2,  BLUE is Tech 3, RED is Tech 4, GOLD is Tech 5, GREEN is Tech 6, AQUAMARINE is Tech 7, PURPLE is Tech 8, BROWN is Tech 9 and OLIVE is Tech 10.

ASIA

Far East Asia

THE MINOMOTO SHOGUNATE
Tenno Ichijo, Emperor of Jihpen
Minomoto no Fushibujin, Shogun
The Shogun caught up lost time with his (usually unwilling) wife.  Between dodging daggers and skillets, he managed to get some precreation done.  Admiral Gehatsa explored the Bolsheva Bay area a little bit more.
MAP: Hojo, Kumamoto & Heian grew larger.  Roads were built connecting Kumamoto to Miyazaki, Otomi to Shimoseki, Joetsu to Kobe then to Akita.

THE MAGADANNAM
Lou, Overlord of Hai Ochostk
Lou waas popular for he gave everyone unexpected holidays from time to time.  He paid for these days with the harvest surplus despite the bad harvests of late.
MAP: Ochostk was colonized to (1/4)ZO.

THE TUNGUS KINGDOM OF PO-HAI
Gunxo-Ron, King of Parhae
DIPLOMACY: Sikhote(fa)
Young Gunxo-Ron came of age.  He used the Ax of Rulership to knock off a few heads that bad mouted old Zoroaster.

THE BURYAT HORDE
Shaikyik, Khan
HORDE DIPLOMACY:  Cipsac(ne), Baling(aw, aw, ne)
What do hordes do when they're bored?  They shoot tumbleweed with dud arrows.  The great tumbleweed herds blew over to Korakorum and the Buryat followed for they had many duds to get rid of.  Those weeds that could not be shot were stomped upon.  The tatar brush escaped to Hsi-Hsia where they were protected by the Balings.  The Baling peeved by the Buryat cruelty to plant matter challenged the Buryats to a fight.  The Buryat had 2000 more men than the 110.000 who followed Shaikyik.  The two sides mixed it up for a couple battles until the hot tempers subsided.  Finally the Buryat agreed not to hunt the wild tumbleweed (for the season had passed).  The Baling who had been reduced to 30,000 mounted warriors were proud that they had saved a steppe fixture from going extinct (You should see them go berserk over snail darters).  The 49,000 Buryat survivors returned to Kerait and howled to the stars for their dead.  They swore never to make dud arrows ever again.

THE DA TANG EMPIRE
Jibo, "Lao Zong", 33rd Tang Ruler, Emperor of the Middle Kingdom
Tai Di's reign was unsuccessful with the exception of the Water Dragon Festival in Zhangniu, March 1144.  Best shindig this side of the Indus, man.  Tai Di died the following year of something real bad.  Since he had left no children, his uncle Jibo took over and laid down the law against Tai Di's unruly eunochs (Don't ask).
In the backwoods of Tonkin, the rumors of the Monkey Cult became widespread.  They had once dominated the Kung Fu world since the time they overthrew the Neo Wuyue Gate.  Now they had fallen out of practice.  A free lance vagabond named Ten Bull Cracker challenged Tall Monkey and the entire Monkey School to a duel at Blue Mountain.  One by one the Monkeys fell as surrounding forest was level by chi palm blasts, devastating kicks and deadly finger beams.  The last of the Monkeys, their best fighter, young Lion Monkey had developed a new 'drunken fist' move which almost parried Ten Bull Cracker's Madcow Headbutt.  The unconscious Lion Monkey's body was spirited away by unknown observers.  Tang officials investigating the matter were unsatisfied with  the veracity of the incident.

THE SERENE PALACE OF THE GREATER WHEEL
Bao-Kong, Abbot Grandmaster of the Serene Palace, Bodhisattva of Chan Mahayana
The Monks stayed in their cloister halls and counted their beads, awaiting new wisdom from their master.

Indo-China

FOI GUO
Foi Shei-Zang, King of the South Han
The Foy wondered if the sudden lack of Tang activity meant a loss of the Heavenly Mandate.  Could the Sky favor a new, more vigorous Dynasty to take all?

THE KHMER EMPIRE
Nataraja, God-Emperor of Khmer
DIPLOMACY:  Mindanao(ea)
The Kambuja directed his three Tiger Dukes to escort his sister, Dharma, to marry the Bloodchief to Mindanao.  The Bloodchief presented with all these gifts of gold, jade, beautiful women, silk, porcelains, tame leopards and tofu could not help but prostrate himself before the innate greatness of the God-Emperor.  The God-Emperor, by the way, encouraged new efforts that produced even more prosperity within his vast realm.
MAP: Vinh, Saigon, Sakhon, Sakhan, Lo Wan, Phnom Penh, Bangkok and Battamdang became larger cities.  A road connected Lo Wan to Angkor onward to Bangkok terminated in Sakhon.

THE COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE OF SRIVIJAYA
Sri Dharmavamsa, God-CEOof Srivijaya, Inc.
DIPLOMACY: Dolak(hs), Irian(empty)
Shali Katar wanted to build a new office building but slumped over dead over his blueprints.  The regency for the underaged General Manager Dharmavamsa in a cost-cutting move cancelled all construction until the next board meeting which would be in April 1047.   Cuhn the yacht explorer mapped a short cut from Nanshan to the Mekong Sea and back.  As Shali Katar's executor, Maha, picked up the Timor garrison in 1042 allowing the old Yampi stronghold to go neutral (once more).  Maha paid a visit to the cannibalistic Dolak.  The Dolakmites wanted Maha for lunch but Maha refused to volunteer any the cannibals chased him back to the beach.  There was no one home in Irian (though lots of tropical birds that mimic human voice which really confused Maha's party).  A merchant fleet set off from the Sri Lanka conduit made contact with Syria.
MAP: Pholay and Akachati experienced urban growth.

South Seas

GOOLBURA
Capoom, Master of the Great Dividing Range
Capoom tried with many women but none got fat.  Paramata held a founding day to celebrate their new city.  Canals were dug in Bogong.  Kangaroo farms were opened up in Eha-Rana
MAP: Boggabri was the name of Paramata's new city.

LAND OF THE LONG WHITE CLOUD
Panukultau,Tuma Whakarae o Maori, Kaitiaki Rorea Aotearoa, Kawana o Aumoana Runga, Ariki Tamaroa Kei raro Taki o Autahi
The old Ariki Panukultau stepped out of his Pearl Palace to watch the skies.  He condiered himself fortunate that he lived so long.

THE YAMPI BAND
Ulee, Chieftain of the Yampi Folk
The memory shamen remonstrated to Ulee about his obligation to protect the lost cousins in Timor.

India

THE KINGDOM OF BURMA
Grath, King of Burma
DIPLOMACY: Laos(f)
Grath left most of his entourage at Myanmar and stole passage to Laos to help a frustrated Diakar seal the deal of unification.  The Laos were happy to see Grath.  Diakar's tongue so tired from the discussions was soothed over with ointment.  Grath returned home to explain to his guards that Burma was that much stronger.  Durgala hiked inland to Gtsang to spread the true meaning of Buddhism but the Imphali were too stuck on that Kali bitch.  Monkey cultists were found dead at Nan Chao.  Their stinking bodies were burnt in a mass cremation.  The pyre soon became haunted and no one, no animal, nothing ever approached the site again.
Work began on an unknown megalith in Samatata.    The Sagaing accepted their new fatih despite having a city built in their midst.
MAP: The cities of Kunming and Mandalay  were founded in the highlands of Korat and Sagiang respectively.  Ava expanded.

THE COLA MANDALAM
His Magnificence, Cola Gunamuditya II, Maharaja of Bharat
Chiladarwu visited Nadavaria and visited every bar asking questions.  No one dared answer him; many shunned him and others quietly walked away, losing themselves in crowds.  Karca stayed in Jihjhoti and kept his eyes peeled for 'The Invasion'.  In the Tomes of Elder Choca Chola it was written that "Someday the dread Tavokh will reappear from beyond the Roof of the World and they will rob all the villages and leave all farms desolated, et cetra, et cetra, et cetra...The gods themselves cannot protect the world from the Curse of Tavokh."  That Choca was on to something.
MAP: A road was built over a mountain range connecting Kalanjara (Jihjhoti) to Tripuri (Dahala).

THE HIDDEN KINGDOM OF PUNJAB
Gauhal, Hidden King of Lahore
The Punjab helplessly watched as the Dread Tavokh crossed over great mountain ranges and conquered Kashmir and Pathan.  Their hell-breathing mounts and merciless rangers loomed but a hundred leagues from the glittering Punjab capital of Lahore.

Persia

THE GRAND KHANATE OF TAVOKH  (Cherkassy, Xi Xia, Tangut, Jark)
Hokshoi, Khagan of the Tavokhstan
Hokshoi had not the globe trotting stamina of Layaidu.  He was a family man and wanted to settle his war weary people in the clearspring mountains of Pamir.  Hokshoi, his 107,000 Tanguta hordesmen, 42,500 Ilhand allies and 9000 'Anipsai crossed into Ferghana and conquered the land.  The former Samanid provence was colonized with Tangut tribesmen.  They returned to Yarkhand, attacked and colonized that.  Then back into the mountains to sheltered Pamir which easily fell to the Tangut and was designated the Tavokh homeland after it was forcibly settled.  Then the host attacked Kashmir.  There 10 field forts and 4000 pikemen awaited the horde but all were stomped.  Khiragu's 40 foot palisades were easily knocked down (Not much of a fight here).  Kashmir, already Asia-Pagan from the Kokohul became more so from the colonization of Tavok families.  The Ilhand advanced into Pathan, conquered the Punjab land and colonized their own tribe there.  The Tavokh once feared world-wide settled down after 150 years of global terror.
MAP: Ferghana, Pamir, Kashmir, Yarkhand and Pathan became Asia-Pagan.  Ferghana has a significant Sunni Muslim minority.  Pathan is now called Ilhand on the map.  Yarkhand and Ilhand has significant Hindu minorities.  Pamir was colonized to (2/6) and a capital city was built in honor of Layaidu called Laidak.

THE DOLKARI KHANAT OF SAMARKHAND
Abdullah ad Dolkair, Khan of Samarkhand
Spurred by the fear of his new neighbors, the Dolkari renewed their attack against the Samanid capital.  This time he and his 52,000 cavalry play it smart by setting up a passive siege of Bukhara.  It capitulated in 1143.  Sa'ud the last Emir of Bukhara became a permanent part of Abdullah's entourage.  One Samanid governor, Khalud, along with a portion of the Samanid government switched allegiences and agreed to serve their new masters at Samarkhand.  Khokhand joined the Dolkari as well.

THE SAMANID EMIRAT OF BUKHARA
During the siege of Bukhara (1141-43), Ali died.  His son Sa'ud, sensitive to the suffering of his people, surrendered the city.  On behalf of his family, Sa'ud assured the Dolkari that the Samanids would never rule again.  The remainder of the Saman territories went in many different directions.  Dasht Margo joined the Buyids.  Karatou, Jowzjanan, Khuttal, Kuhistan and Tukharistan became independent ghazi states.  Seistan and Zamindavar rebelled against the Samanid garrisons to become neutral.  Khokhand became a part of the Dolkari Khanate.  Khwarzim and Bogazgol fell under the sway of the Anushtigin family who founded the Khwarizmshah.  Their first governor, Ala-ad-Din Atsiz announced that they pay homage to the Emir of Arran.

ARRAN EMIRAT
Khosrau, Governor of the Roughlands
DIPLOMACY: Khwarizmshah lands(nt)
The Arran were suprized by the new found civility of the Buyids.  Khosrau was beside himself until the Khwarizmshah sent him a gift of water and soil.

BUYID EMIRAT OF SHIRAZ
Abyud ad Dawla Abu Nasr al Buya, Emir of Emirs, Pasha of Shiraz
Pacified Kumis was colonized by friendly settlers which freed up the garrison for new duties.  Buyid Emir Kasim fetched his son to the newly built city of Tehran (a former suburb of ruined Rayy) who married a princess of new Kumis to ensure continuation of the bloodline.  Kasim died in 1143, and Abu Nasr returned to Fars and had potency problems.  Achmed and Alim reported success in converting El Burz to Shi'a.  Dasht margo sent their taxes to Shiraz these days.
MAP:  El Burz is Shi'a Muslim.  Tehran was built in Kumis.

Mesopotamia

THE ABBASID CALIPHAT (Dar al Islam)
'Arif Al Muktafi II, Kalifat Rasul Allah, Commander of the Faithful
The death of Al Muktafi's son Sayid saddened everyone in the court.  The Caliph stocked his harim with fresh women and managed to get three sons born in 1142 from three different mothers.

THE KARIMID SULTANATE OF ALEPPO
Baruod ad Din Faruk, Sultan of Aleppo
DIPLOMACY: Egypt(c), Faiyum(c), Thebes(nt)
Faruk moved his derriere out of the capital to review the new lands left unclaimed since the departure of the Aghalbids.  With him he brought his cavalry force and three sisters which were handed off to the rulers of Egypt, Faiyum and Thebes.  These gestures helped to make the far bank of the Nile favorable to Shi'ite law.  Lord Wawi and 18,000 soldiers, 2500 sappers captured the Nubian outpost of Iksandr and militarily converted the darn place to right proper Shi'ism.  The overburdoned government was given more to worry about when a port facility was built in Yemen to allow for new routes with the Princes of Hindustan, Persia and Kilwa.  The distant Malakkin sent a spice fleet from far away as well.  The crusty sailor (you know the type that goes, 'arg'), Arazil, voyaged beyond the ports of Kilwa and discovered the island of Madagascar.
MAP: Kalisma and Jerusalem each grew to 2 GPv.  A fortress-port was built in Yemen facing the Bab-al-Mandab.

AFRICA

East Africa

THE KINGDOM OF IFAT
Nasir
Lahar's life terminated in 1145.  The Ifat remained impassive and without much direction.

THE MAKURIA KINGDOM OF NUBIA
Zacharias IV, Negus of Nubia, Owner of Dibbles
The Nubians were bothered again.  A mean Syrian attack force grabbed Iksandr and persecuted the Christians there.

THE MUSENGEZI OF GAMO-GOFA
Catherine,  Queen of Gamo-Gofa, Grand Mistress of the Rifts
Momballa-da's long reign ended in 1145.  He had been 93.  Ahab, his disgruntled son, died on the same day.  His grand-daughter, Catherine safely assumed the responsibility of power.  She had married a stud in Kefa and finally gave birth to a son (just before her menopause) to 1145.  The Musengezi nation has become civilized.
MAP: Gamo-Gofa was colonized to (2/7) CP

NAMPULA KINGDOM
Kivimara, King of the Nampul, Lord Kurase
DIPLOMACY: Masai(a)
The Lord Kurase paid a personal visit to the Masai to celebrate their new found wealth with an full alliance.  Syrian merchants unloaded strange and exotic goods that no one knew even existed.
MAP: Luangua cultivated.  Nkhata was built in Malawi.

THE ZAMBEZI CONFEDERATION
Rilambo II, Queen ofZimbabwe
Yeshyi, Protector the Confederation
The Chieftains elected Yeshyi to his fourth term of office.  The popular Luoi was brought back to serve as Minister of State.  Maroka retired.  In 1144, Queen La V passed away.  La's son Rilambo II became the king at the age of 9.  Rilambo had a shocking head of red hair, evoking memories of La II. The Matabele to Matopos unfinished road got a layer of grounded rocks.

West Africa

BAKONGO KINGDOM
Dobini, Ba King
DIPLOMACY: Giri(f), Etosha(ne)
Zarqa harkened back to his Zambezi roots and named his daughter (older than his son) Dobini to be the 'king' after his death.   Well, as soon as the ink on his will had one dry (1145), Zarqa died.
MAP: Mukenko expanded to 3 GPv.

THE IBO KINGDOM OF THE BINI NATION
Oranmiyan, 15th Oba of the Ibo, Descendent of Oduduwa, Blessed of the Rainbow
The Ibo royal family mourned the early, untimely death of their Oba, Djoleto II, in 1142.  The nine brothers and sisters of Djoleto had a family get-together to determine the next monarch from their number.  After much human sacrifice to the tombs of Oduduwa and Acoli, they divined that that third son, Oranmiyan, was the most fit to rule.  The rest of the Empire experienced an increase of wealth and the cities grew.
MAP: Mandara became cultivated.  Nigeri grew to 6 GPv.  Ijebu Ode, Ikeja and Ezi became 5 GPv.  Biafra, Boukombe, Djoleto, Wukari, Kwame, Kachigwe, Ndjamo, Lawino and Jos are all 3 GPv.

THE NAFA WIZARAT OF ID
Nafa ad-Din Amman ir Saleem, Wizare al Id, Regent for the Emirat of Almaghreb and Alandalus
DIPLOMACY: Arguin(t), the Ummayads(f)
The 'accidental' death of Ehri suddenly ended the civil war that was not.  All the Ummayad realm with much apology returned to the Land of ID.  Amman was very pleased with the situation.  he adopted Yusuf, 'son' of Ehri, but an ancient curse (Ummayad Fred the Dread Spook of the Dungeon) born long beofre either of them slew Yusuf in 1141.  Yusuf had helped to bring Arguin back into the fold.  The Tan Tan residents had long become accustomed to knitting their own socks.  Amman was put off now that he had to choose his only child, Rex, from his only wife (groan), Blanche, as his heir.  And about that Blanche.  She's so tough that she's immune to all poisons and elixirs.  Amman's secret plan is to poison the hordes with her cooking.
MAP: The Road from Port Sahib (Merrakesh) to Barklin (Idjil) was completed and must wait another 800 years for Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.

AL UMMAYAD EMIRAT AL ANDALUS
Ehri was on top of the world when his favorite wife served him fruit punch spiked with arsenic.  Ehri slumped in his lawn chair to the sound of babbling water in the background (movie rights, movie rights, I want movie rights...).  It seems that the wife had an ongoing affair with the current Wizare of Id, Amman, and was making up for her failure to off Blanche.

AL AGHLABID EMIRAT AS SIQILLI
Kemal, Amir al Balerum
Prince Luqmann shuttled the army from Rihan across the Mediterranean to Valencia to protect the province from the Idin Civil War.  The tensions completely subsided when Du'ad's army arrived.  Emir Kemal mingled with the population of Corsica in hopes he would convert a few more to Muslim.

EUROPE

Oriental Europe

THE KRITIC EXARCHATE OF GREECE
Zeno III, Exarch of Crete, Basileus of the Greeks
DIPLOMACY: Isauria(ea)
The new Exarch, Zeno III,  refused to believe that his father, Zeno II,  was really dead.  To convince himself, the Basileus had a strawman built in the likeness of his father and placed it on the throne.  Clearly the stewards and the chamberlains thought the king was nuts but did they speak their mind?  Noooo.   That would lead to their deaths.  So they humored Zeno III until one day in 1144, Zeno III, figured that he was really the king.  So he had the straw replica of his dead dad bronzed and placed in the Civic Forum of Knossos.  Ambassador Cyril was safely out of town for he was discussing Pan-Hellenism with the Despot of Isauria.

THE PECHNEG KHAGANATE OF LEVEDIA
Kavis, Khagan of Levedia
DIPLOMACY: Lyubbech(nt)
The tribes in their tent city near Taganrov wanted a new home for tents leak when it rains.  Kavis spent much time communicating with the barrow spirits on top of the Scythian mounds.  He may wish to impart his new wisdom some day.  The Lyubbech spontaneously joined the Pechneg Kingdom after being slave raided by the Magyars.

THE GREAT PRINCIPALITY OF SUZDAL
Ituval, Grand Prince of Suzdal
DIPLOMACY: Ilmen(f), Tver(f)
The elderly Ituval went to Novgorod to bring in new townsfolk.  The Ilmen veche enjoyed their new found prosperity.  Karlovf and Beiski spent much time in Tver to brag about Suzdal benevolence as Orsha was rebuilt and a new merchant fleet was bankrolled.  Karlovf's son Grugor was given a wife from the Tver aristocracy.  The ships went to trade with Sweden while Hun boats arrived with slaves to sell.  Many of these poor fellows were rounded up in the nearby regions of Smolensk, Starodub and Lyubbech.
MAP: Orsha and Novgorod were rebuilt.  Bolgar grew to 5 Gpv.

THE OSTIG KINGDOM OF SWEDEN
Waldemar, Fire in the North, King of Sweden
DIPLOMACY: Hordaland(nt)
Waldemar lured his niece onto a boat and took her to Hordaland where she was betrothed to an ugly looking brutish guy.  The Hordas thought she was so nice that they agreed not to spit when they hear the word, 'Svear'.  Sadly she was allergic to cats and Hordaland still has lots of cats all over the dang place.  At least Waldemar is happy.
MAP: In Gautland, Vastervik was founded.  Yes, it has a harbor.

THE MAGYARORSZAGH KINGDOM OF HUNGARY
Stephen II, King of Hungary and Germany
DIPLOMACY: Moravia(t), Jutland(nt), Friesland(fa)
In 1141, Jutland rebelled.  Roger of Saxony arrived to get them to return to come back.  Then in 1143, the other Saxons (Connachta) unloaded troops from their great navy on the banks of Lorraine.  Stephen got the messenger sparrow and mobilized his 123,500 horsejocks to respond to Lorraine before the British had time to break their river camp.  The intruders scrambled back onto their ships before any harm was done to either side.  Stephen led his grumbling cavalcade back through the empty woods of Franconia to water up in Thuringia.
The Magyars were up to their usual dirty deeds sending Garrod to slave raid Russians.  They made certain to avoid lands directly controlled by the Suzdal Prince and the Pechnegs.  With a navy of 24 longships, 10 cogs and 4000 marines, Garrod arrived to the Dvina River in 1041 and slaved Smolensk, Starodub and Lyubbech.  On the way back to the processing center, the Black Navy netted a few more men in Latvia and Estonia.
An agreement with the Burgundians meant the transfer of Holland to Magyarorszagh.  The Dutch peacefully joined but was tainted with Catharism, a religious-cultural movement spread through Western Europe.  The male-dominated, martial culture of the Huns clashed with Catharism sowing the seeds of instablility in Holland, Frisia and Westphalia.
MAP: Lorrach grew to 7 GPv.  Prague was now 6 GPv.  Schleswig and Leipzig became 4 GPv each.  The Leipzig-Prague road was upgraded to royal.

Magna Mater Etain Rapturous, Sister of Mary, Protector of the Innocent, Blessed of the Divine Light of Christ, Beloved of God in All His Glory
DIPLOMACY: Cornwall(ab), Sussex(ab), Munster(ab), Connaught(ab), Ulster(ab)
The Cianovan Chruch began to expand again, very dramatically in fact.  Aarron opened up new abbeys in England and Ireland.  Then as a result of the Cathars in Gaul, all the churches in Burgundy joined the True Church in 1143.  Mother Etain died that year.  She had stood firm in the face of the storm, for the principle that Christianity was for all people, not just sterile men.  The seeds she sowed had bourne fruit and she died to wittness the beginning of it.  Epona took over her Mother's mantle and vowed to finish what had been started.

THE SAXON KINGDOM OF GREATER CONNACHTA
Coenwulf, King of Saxons and Eiru
DIPLOMACY: Northumbria(ea)
The English sought to test the defenses of the Lorrainian Epop.  When word of Europe's turmoils arrived to Coenwulf's ear, Coenwulf sent his admiral Harold to go on the offensive.  Harold had to gather the forces first.  In the English Channel, he got a break.   The Epop navy hadn't been paid and were contemplating piracy when Berand offered to pay for their services.  24 ships joined the British navy.  Now Connachta had regained naval supremacy.  By 1142, the landing force was assembled on board 25 transports and Harld made his way up the Rhine River unimpeded.  He unloaded his troops in the spring of 1043:  4500 knights and 15,000 infantry.  They had plans to finish off the hated Epop city but the Maygars had to show up.  123,500 war-horses forded the Rhines from Franconia.  Harold recognized the danger, got his troops on board ship and left before the Magyars could catch them.  Harold returned to Sussex safely.

Occidental Europe

THE GERMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Purity IV, Bishop of Aix-La-Chapelle, Pope of the Catholic Church
CONSECRATION: Alfold(ab), Austria(ab), Bohemia(mn), Norgau(ca), Bakony(ab, lost)
The German Papacy suffered serious setbacks, at Aachen and all over Europe.  Vater Benedict V left Aachen to build cathedrals in Hungary, so he didn't notice the strange things happening.  For some known reason the entire military force was left unpaid.  The walls of Aix-la-Chapelle (Aachen) and Shloss Wolfenstein fell into ruins.  The field towers and transports were scrapped for firewood.  The sailors of Lorraine were understandibly upset.  They killed their stingy paymaster, Harris, and went down the Rhine in search of pirate gold.  Many went over to the British who waved a golden purse before them.  The Papacy then hired painters from all over Europe (though these were not the greatest in their field) to paint colorful, garish animals on every cathedral and church in Aachen.  No one knew what purpose they had.  Something was terribly amiss.  Ignoring the public relations scandal that was obviously happening, the Chancellorate initiated a purge of the government which resulted in the loss of many loyal priests and no answer to the cause of this misappropriation of the Exchequer's office.  The public was disgusted at these shameful displays of public frivolity and confidence in the German Church waned.  The old clergy of the Burgundian Church was discredited by the scandal and handed control of their monasteries to the pro-Cianodh Catharais.  When Benedict V died in Bakony, the College of Cardinal went into turmoil.  Now there was a void of leadership and no one wanted to be associated with the German Church.  Cardinal Jorgen and the Italian Dioceses broke off to form an 'Independent Roman Church' which was allied to the Roman Empire.  Abbeys and monasteries in Swabia, Bakony, Tuscany and Verona were lost.  It took a full year for them to choose a Lorranian as Vater Purity IV.  The sway and ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Aachen Papacy fell to three cathedral in Thuringia, Lorraine and Norgau, a monastery in Bohemia, abbeys in Alfold and Austria, the temporal domain of Lorraine and the holy city of Aix-la-Chapelle.

THE ROMAN EMPIRE
Caesar Vergilius Secundus, Rex Latinorum, Dominum Lagobardium, Imperator Romanorum Occidentalis
Vergilius' ensured the Empire continued its classical revivial.  Latin, once considered dead, was becoming a widespread language, taught to all educated children as a primary language.  The vulgar language was still spoken by the lower classes but it took on more and more Latin words.  In 1144, Cardinal Jorgen, announced that all the cathedrals, monasteries and abbeys within the Roman Empire would form an 'Independent Roman Church'.  Ostensively Jorgen watned to broker a reunification of the two churches but word on the via had it that Jorgen really wanted to restore the Vatican and make himself Pope.  In Rome itself, there was a relic that could work great miracles.

THE KINGDOM OF BURGUNDY
Heinric Clense, Rex Burgundus
DIPLOMACY: Poitou(c), Ponthieu(t), Flanders(f)
Early in 1141, the Gallic populace became fascinated with the Gothic Religion.  This started a mass religious movement called Catharism.  Within five years it revolutionized religion in Burgundy.  Advocating good works over indulgences and the equality of sexes, the Cathar parfaits spread the word from town to town, gathering  in strength.  What was more, the parfaits endored Mother Etain (Sancte Etanis) as the leader of Christendom.  In 1143, their authority was such that the Burgundian Church accepted them as the new clergy.  By 1145, all of Burgundy's abbeys, monasteries and cathedrals were managed by Cathars and Ciandovan priests and priestesses.  King Heinric, not an especially religious man, acquiesced to the  new situation.  He and his men worked to strengthen his tax base.  The deed to Holland, however, was transfered to the Huns for nothing in return.  A trade fleet was sent to the Greeks.
