ANNOUNCEMENTS
THIS TURN TOOK A LONG TIME: My god! You'd think that note about 3-year turns wasn't really a joke, huh? :-) Having started the game, I turned the game over to another GM in 1991 and am very happy to see it still running. It all started at Atlanta Origins with a box of rule books and map sets... I even remember signing up Bill Rakowski for a position in France and Masami Hamasu, who I couldn't understand because he and his friend spoke Japanese, but REALLY liked my maps. Glad to see them still in the game!

Want to take a moment to give a great big THANK YOU to Lorne Colmar for cleaning up the stats and packaging it for this turn.

OPEN POSITIONS: If you're dropping, let me know ASAP. There will be a lottery August 27th if you are interested in any of the open positions.

3 YEAR TURNS: Lords 10 will switch to 3 year turns on this turn (1517 AD).

MISTAKES: You betcha there's gonna be some, but hopefully you'll survive.

MERCENARIES: All Geographic Regions will have 10mi in their Merc Pool. Additional Mercenaries will be available as Merc Bands which will be listed in a special section of this newsfax (not this turn).

COLOR CODED NATION HEADERS: The Colors coded on each nation represents your technology level. Tech 1, 2, & 3, Tech 4, Tech 5, Tech 6, Tech 7, Tech 8, Tech 9, and Tech 10. If you can't read it, select the text so that it's reversed.

  • AFRICA

    West Africa

    THE AKA'MURRID EMIRATE OF FULANI
Mohammad II, Emir of the Fulani, The Philosopher-King of the Sahel
    Diplomacy: None
Susu revolted, the rebellion spread into the city of Kitsanga, taking it as well. This had the net effect of wiping out Mohammad's trade with Saxonia, Italy and Thaery. Galam also revolted as Niani and Oyo dropped to tributary.

    THE SUPREMACY OF TOGO
    Oduduwa, Supreme Oba of Togo
    Diplomacy: None
Oduduwa increased all manner of public works in Akan and Togo. Chancellor Tolohi died in 1514. Igbo became cultivated in 1516.

    South Africa

    THE BANTU KINGS OF OKOYO
    Ogourke, Ba King
    Diplomacy: None
Ogourke, paralyzed in fear of what the Mbanza would do next, prepared by saving all he could.

    THE MBANZA REBELLION
    Kokunde
    Diplomacy: None
The Mbanza possess a force of 26,000 against the highly trained 13,000 Okoyo loyalists. Kasai and Omote allied with Kokunde.

    THE GREAT ZIMBABWE
Malachai, Chief of Zimbabwe, Holder of the Five Twin Jackal Chair
    Diplomacy: None
Malachai saved his pennies. More than 10,000 men garrisoned Melele when Vevinoumbi died in 1514. Bassa became cultivated.

    East Africa

    THE KRAKAS KINGDOM OF AETHIOPIA
Gobbu VII, Alem 'Elum, King of Aethiopia
    Diplomacy: Hadramunt(nt) Zufar(nt)
Gobbu VI set about to complete some Royal Roads in the Kingdom, one to Kanem from Kreda. Then he decreed that a number of territories complete their cultivation projects: Chalbi, Harar, Kefa, Kerkoure, Kreda, Mogadishu, Scebeli, and Sidamo. Then he raised up a truly nasty army of nearly 50,000 men and at the age of 69 headed west to conquer the lands left vacant by Biri of the Karfuzi. He made it as far as Kanem where he died prior to seeing his dream realized. With his death and the death of Chancellor Melonu a few months earlier, Gobbu VII was crowned King of Aethiopia. He spent his time awaiting an invasion, which never arrived, with his more than 75,000 men.
General Basqu took the lead of the army left by Gobbu VI in Kanem to attack Bornu. The Aethiopian armies numbered nearly 45,000 vs the Bornu 2,000. With some gorilla tactics, Bornu was able to dispatch less than 500 of Basqu's men. The unwalled city of Ngazargumu made a great place for the officers to drink and wench before moving on to pacify both Daza and Kanuri. In Kanuri, Basqu started on the military conversion campaign, which took him back through Daza to Bornu again, with minor losses.
Massive upheavals in the merchant houses left Gobbu VII dismayed when the efficiency plans he made didn't bear fruit. Specifically, the refitting of merchant vessels back to transport duty. As a result Minquat was left with no choice but to disband some of the more than 1500 man war fleet to provide housing for new colonists on Comoros. He left the workers and materials and sailed north. The Comoros people, now without a garrison, took the lovely gift as a partial repayment for their years of subjugation. Needless to say, the city wasn't built. Minquat arrived in Zufar to tell the natives that he was building a city. Wonderful they said. As soon as he left, his paltry garrison guarding the workers was overrun. When Ambuti arrived more than a year later to begin diplomatic talks, no one seemed to know what happened to the city, or if there ever was one.
New trade agreements between Byzantium and Aethiopia seem to indicate a warming of relations between the two. The port at Tobruk discovered that it was being supplied by way of a saharan trade caravan, quite subject to delays and raiders, despite the fact that Gobbu controlled the entire eastern block of Oasiseseses, er, Oasisi, er, watering holes. As a result it was demoted to just a conduit anchor.

    North Africa

    THE SULTANATE OF IEST
Khalid ibn Abu al Arrod, Sultan of Mahidia
    Diplomacy: Asir(t) Carib(F)
Khalid supported the Jihad by shuffling some troops around. Most of Iest's actions were in the west (See Americas). The entire city of Malaga revolted after a raving madman shouted "The Caliph's of Iest and Andulusia have abandoned the Inglitarra Jihad. Where are the ships, gold, and support that are needed to continue that which they began? As I speak, your fathers, brothers, and sons bravely continue the task and cry out for support. Follow me and I will lead you back to the Jihad and we will glorify Allah!" He was arrested at the border in Granada on his way to Madiera.
It was discovered that another nation owned territory between the capital and the eastern provinces. This had the effect of cutting sea based trade out of those eastern ports.

    THE ALMORAVID EMIRATE of ANDALUSIA
    Kadir, Emir as Sevilla
    Diplomacy: Benin(c) Cape(fa)
A small fleet of Roman ships sailed south out of the Gibraltar, these were allowed to pass. Kadir was informed that another peaceful looking fleet was seen heading west through Gades. There was some confusion on the lead ship and then it turned around and headed back to the east. His fleets kept a watchful eye as the fleet sailed back, out of the Emirate's seas...
Investments paid off as Infrastructure, Infantry, Warships, and Navigation ratings all improved.

    KHARKI MERCHANTS of CASABLANCA
    Al Kharki, Merchant of Casablanca
    Capitalization: Casablanca(ho)
Casablanca was warm and Al Kharki felt he was far enough west to make his move... [See AS SHIRKI AL BAHRI AL BASRA]

    EUROPE

Western Europe - Death and more Death

THE SULTANATE OF ELSUT (Ingiz Jihad)
Yasir al Mrallid, Sultan of Ingiltarra, Northern Sword of Islam
    Diplomacy: None
Yasir found half of his forces revolting, and because they were religious troops he couldn't get the rest of his forces (90% Jihadine) to take action against them. He continued with his mission to force the infidel to convert is Islam in Sussex. Sussex gave quite a fight, but was finally suppressed. Yasir moved on to have no trouble in Anglia, but then he assaulted the large port city of Ipswich. With it's nearly 2500 regular forces including sappers and artillery nearly forced Yasir to retreat on his first run, but the city folded on his second. He left large garrisons in Anglia and Ipswich and moved on to Northumbria where he easily pacified and militarily converted the populace. Then he attempted to assault Hull, which was similar to Ipswich in defenses. His inexperienced forces were slaughtered in the attempt along with poor Yasir.
Prince Jamal took the garrison from Northumbria and hightailed it to Anglia.

    THE KINGDOM OF MORAY
Angus Og Mac Donald of Islay, ifth Lord of the Isles, Lord of Argyll and Kintyre, Earl of Ross, Captain of Clan Donald, Ri Innse Gall
    Diplomacy: None
The Moray hoped no one would see them.
    OPEN FOR A PLAYER

THE EMIRATE OF CATALONIA (Faranj Jihad)
Beitnuba, Sword of Islam, Emir of Faranj
    Diplomacy: None
Beitnuba attempted many varied and bizarre manoeuvrers. He had hoped to receive a large gold shipment from the Almoravid, which never showed. His trust of Kadir led him to believe that the heathen Medici had stolen it. Curses! He then demobilized and refitted as best he could the Jihadine into field forts, fortresses, walls and siege equipment throughout his realm, all in the name of fighting the infidel who destroyed the Holy Dome at Jerusalem. He was also expecting food from the Imam, but although he was able to secure credit from the newly founded Bank of Islam without a trade route the gold and much needed food needed to be transported by shipping. Some of his investments and none of his intel actions got funding and suffered accordingly.
The Emir took a young Basque wife and had the ambition to repopulate the entire realm. He was beset with assassins from Saxonia during the wedding ceremony, who were dispatched by his elite guards. Later, on their way to the castle men dressed in dark blue velvet crawled up from under the seats of the coach! He was able to defend himself and his bride for a minute before his guards once again killed the marauders, who all the while screamed blasphemous ravings about the truth of the destruction of the Dome of the Rock and how revenge is sweat!!. Finally, when he felt safe in his palace he looked upon the Bay of Biscay from his balcony window. He heard a faint whistle, looked down and saw the shaft of a marksman's arrow protruding from his shoulder... [See Battle of La Rochelle]
In Catalonia Ali Baba Dada was having his own problems. Combined with what Ali later found out was possibly only rumors and innuendo that the destruction of the Temple was actually accomplished by Islamic underground extremists, he had a full scale insurrection on his hands. Slika was wounded by assassins and fled to Languedoc. More than 30,000 men in Catalonia captured Ali, took over Barcelona, militarily converted the region and set up the Islamic Freehold of Catalonia... [See Battle of Barcelona]

    THE NORMAN KINGDOM OF SAXONIA
Henry IV, King of the Saxons and of the Normans, Count of Blois
    Diplomacy: None
Henry built up an impressive army of more than 30,000 men and horse with close to 600 heavy artillery pieces. With this army and nearly the entire cadre of Norman leadership he marched on Poitou, which was undefended. Beitnuba had taken all his forces to defend inside the newly constructed walls of La Rochelle.

         Battle of La Rochelle 1513
Henry and 7 of his best (and not so best) generals, princes, and Henry V moved on Poitou. Beitnuba was cowering behind the walls of La Rochelle, so Henry was able to wipe out all the field forts with ease. He then waited for reinforcements before attacking the city.
Those reinforcements showed up in the form of 2,000 Italian cavalry led by Lodovico, more than 35,000 Helvetica men and horse with 200 pieces of artillery and siege works led by Jango Rienhold, and he heard word that Maxim III of Theary had just arrived in Ile de France with more than 40,000 men. With these forces he attacked the city. The move was swift and deadly for Beitnuba and his forces, whereas only 3% of the Christian forces were lost. Jango suffered a pulled groin that would haunt him into the coming battles. King Roman and his 3 sons showed up with another 40,000 men with cardinal Valila. Henry captured some of the gold Faranj had pulled from the Bank of Islam along with some government workers, after liberating Poitou.
They moved south to liberate Gascony, attack the independent Aragon, and finally reached Catalonia with the combined forces of 5 Kingdoms, a total of 82,500 cavalry, close to 70,000 infantry, nearly 1500 artillery pieces and 6,400 sappers.

         Battle of Barcelona 1516
The Islamic Freehold of Catalonia was happily slaughtering Christians throughout 1514. Biri of Faranj arrived early in the year with another 10,000 men, pushing their total numbers up to 44,000 men. Biri chose to join the IFC as a 3rd string commander - otherwise he would have joined Ali Baba Dada in the dungeons. In 1516 the combined armies of Christendom liberated Catalonia and set up the active siege on Barcelona. Molabar al-Sokra led the IFC defenses, which were outnumbered 6 to 1. But in the end Molobar's defenses weren't enough. So ends the Faranj Jihad.

Prince Charles removed the garrison from Anjou, which promptly dropped to PT along with the city of Tours, picked up some transports in Pontheiu and sailed down to Asturias.

    THE DUCHY OF PERIGORD
    Roderic, Duke of Perigord
    Diplomacy: Aquitaine(f)
Roderic took up more than 3,000 men to slow any Muslims who would happen to be rooting around the middle of Saxonia, clearing the roads all the way north to Paris.

    THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Boniface X, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Servant of the Servants of God, Supreme Pontiff on the Universal Church
    Consecration: Venezia(ch) Normandy(ch) Cherbourg(ch) Rouen(ch) Bruges(ch) Liege(ch)
Gabriel picked up nearly about 150 warships and sailed west out of Latium. On the evening of May 3rd four black shapes slithered up the side of the lead ship from out of the murky depths. In the morning the first mate was found dead in the riggings and Gabriel unconscious. The fleet returned amid fear and uncertainty.
Valila successfully moved the Bochnian crusaders to Normandy and then to join the fray in Catalonia. Bishop Michael founded several churches. Several abbeys reduced their operating expenses by becoming mere churches in areas where the communication with a monastery or cathedral was too long in coming.

    THE ARLES KINGDOM OF ITALIA
    Rolfo II, Rex Lagobardum
    Diplomacy: Galway(nt) Lucayo(t)
Rolfo declared a state emergency and conscripted all able men to beef up his army to huge proportions, some would estimate as being close to 100,000 men strong. He also placed an impressive amount of field works throughout the empire. Lodovico took 2,000 cavalry to join the destruction of the Faranj.
Without a known circuitous route for his trade fleets, trade was interrupted with the Americans.
    OPEN FOR A PLAYER

    THE UNITED CANTONS OF HELVETICA
Wilhelm Kemmelstim, Grand Doge of the UCH
    Diplomacy: None
Wilhelm turned over direct control of the entire armed forces of the United Cantons to General Jango Rienhold. More than 50,000 men marched through the streets in front of the people in memory of the Great Glorious Leader who saved the New Republik. Soon even Italians rode up to join the parade. They all marched west to join the party in Catalonia [See Battle of Barcelona]. As soon as Jango had left, Wilhelm announced that a new, more formal and permanent stability was needed. He initiated the changes necessary to at some point in the not too distant future become the Helvetican Imperium and restore all the old titles of Empire...

    THE NORDIK KINGDOM OF THAERY
Maxim (III) Goldnose, King of the Danes
    Diplomacy: None
Goldnose pressed his entire kingdom into building an over 65,000 man army to push the Jihadine out of Saxonia [See Battle of Barcelona]. A bridge was built over the Rhine, nearly connecting The Hague to Liege. Kjell had a son in 1513, but his wife died in 1515.

THE MERCANTILE AND BANKING SYNDICATE OF LIVORNO (Medici)
    Natani d'Medici, Guildmaster of Medici
    Capitalization: Liguria(ma) Savoy(ma) Pavia(ma) Venezia(ma) Burgundy(ma) Lelander(bo) Cologne(bo) Leige(ma) Santaner(ma) Porto(ma) Campania(ma) Calabria(ma) Apulia(ma) Spoleto(ma) Provence(ma) Carmaux(ma) Novroma(ma) Varna(ma) Bucharest(ma) Citherione(ma) Troy(ma) Constantinople(ma) Neuhamelin(ma) Murke(ma) Berlin(ma) Sancelade(ma) Munich(ma) Zurich(ma) Sete(bo) Lyon(ma) Bergerac(ma) Toulouse(ma) Pau(ma) Brest(ma) Bari(ma) Tarantum(bo) Reggio(bo) Naples(bo) Mobaka(c)

    THE KINGDOM OF THE BALTS
Rurik IV, King of Baltica, Prince of Novgorod
    Diplomacy: None
38 year old Rurik asked his 90 year old father Gleb to step down and enjoy some time fishing on Lake Ilmen. Grudgingly Gleb did so. Rurik opened trade with Andalusia and Dar Islam, seemingly turning away from his Catholic upbringing. Many wonder if there are secret workings afoot. 64 year old Admiral Piotr took 90 ships out into the Baltic Sea, but the fleet returned upon his death. Rurik's wife died a year after giving birth to his daughter. Smolensk and Starodub were cultivated.

    KINGDOM OF BOLGARSK (Ukrain Empire)
    Pavel, Prince of Kubishev
    Diplomacy: Uze(h)
Pavel knew something was up as soon as the Dihaj assassins failed to kill him. Ah, the long sordid history of rivalry between the peaceful Bolgarsk and the hated Dihaj Khanate. He hurried over to Murom to pick up a few hundred of his infantry to support him in Kama Bolgar...

    THE DIHAJ KHANAT
Saykhin Pasha, Mighty Servant of Allah
    Diplomacy: None
The Dihaj administrative corp has an adverse effect on the economy. In other news, Saykhin sent two of his leaders, whom he didn't even know by name, and thus lost whatever battle assistance he would have gained, with close to 15 thousand men north to Kama Bolgar, intent on looting and burning Kubishev.

         Battle of Kubishev 1514
Both armies arrived in Kama Bolgar the spring of 1514, Pavel defended behind his field fortifications. He was forced to withdraw to Pelym after taking out one of Saykhin's un-named generals (al-Nidsanim). Saykhin's forces, still intent on burning the city, regrouped his men and did just that, looting Kama Bolgar on the way out. The army grumbled a bit, but did not mutiny when the loot was not divided with them. They fared far better than the starving Bolgarsk.

    THE ROMAN EMPIRE -Phormion Dynasty
Ilias Phormio, Imperator Romanus, Basileus of Constantinople
    Diplomacy: Pereslavl(A) Levedia(ea)
Ilias completed the royal road network to connect to the Helvetica, sent a few diplomats into the steppe, built up public works in Moldavia and Zoporozhie, and expanded the army by 25,000 men. Myron too a large fleet off to the tiny islands of Mobaka, recently claimed by Medici. Upon landing he set a thousand men to guard construction of the port city Phormiople. They were left to garrison the new conduit city. Like his western brothers, he was instrumental in destroying something precious to his enemies. Banat converted completely to Orthodoxy.

    ASIA

    The Middle East

    THE DAR AL ISLAM CALIPHATE
Sal a'Din, most cunning and deadly
    Diplomacy: None
Hasan announced that his brother Lahilla was the leader of a secret cult and that he backed his ascension to leader of the Sunni faith. He also took it upon himself to rebuild the Holy Mosque in Jerusalem, wishing his brother to base his new organization there, also bringing the entire cult houses and temples with him. Lahilla's brother Lashan would have none of this, but he bided his time... This was too much for several of Hasan's military and ruling classes. Subject to a series of attacks from outside influences, the religious foundation was rocked to near nothing, and, although Lahilla now accepts the loyalty of such nations as Andalusia and Iesti, he only has the city of Jerusalem and the few cult houses which converted into churches and abbeys to grow from.
The Grand Vizier Aziz was wounded and fled the capital, Hasan was not so lucky as men who knew which way the wind blew took him in front of the growing legion of men loyal to Sal a'Din. Both Omar and Jamal were persuaded to join as well. Hasan was paraded around the streets in a gibbons, hung upside down. The garrison at Kumis revolted. Ebon in Aleppo was wounded and fled when Abrayl wrested control of Aleppo and the more than twenty thousand men and the entire Western fleet. Abrayl then moved east with his men to prove his claim to the throne. Arsuf, who recently saw his jihadine warriors run hither and yon joined Abrayl. At Baghdad Abrayl was wounded by masked assailants. Arsuf then made a play for the whole pie but was similarly disposed of.
Hasan was then left to bleed to death at the gates of his former palace. With the death of Hasan, Lashan now saw his chance to strike at the heart of his brother Lahilla, claiming the ancient rite of assumption. He confronted Sal a'Din and challenged him to mortal combat. The curved knives of the rite unsheathed and dripping with ichorous poison. Both were equally matched at the art, surprising Lashan. His death was slow and painful. Apprized of the location of the secret location of the stronghold, Sal a'Din moved quickly to destroy it.
Sal a'Din was left with a still mighty army, though nearly half of it dissolved in the chaos. Sunni Islam now has a Primacy based out of Jerusalem. And the Western Fleet were his as well. But the loses were great. In the confusion and intrigue, the bulk of the treasury was stolen and the Bank of Islam has it's first defaulted loan. The trade losses were staggering. Sal a'Din called off the invasion of Germany.

THE SECRET EMPIRE OF THE BURNING SWORD
Hammad Abu-Hassan, Keeper of Secrets, Master of Lies
Consecration: None that you know about...
In the chaos of the assumption, some of the Burning Sword's cultic sites were exposed to the light of day.

    LAHILLA PRIMACY OF ISLAM
    Lahilla
    Consecration: Jerusalem(hc)
Lahilla successfully built his church on the newly built rock. As soon as this was done he found evidence of at least one sneaky bastard secret empire attempting to form a cultic cell. He was able to bring only a portion of his cult followers with him from these regions: Misr, Raqqah, Sinai, and Syria, although, without the support structure of the cult helping him, Lahilla saw Abadan, Azerbaijan, Hahmar, Iraq, and Khuzestan immediately reduce to Churches.

AS SHIRKI AL BAHRI AL BASRA (SBB)
Mustafa al Haj, Kalifat Rasul Allah, Captain General of the Basra Overseas Trade Company
    Capitalization: None
Mustafa al Haj was disappointed that Ar Rahim didn't send him on any missions to expand the company's holdings, but he was even more disappointed when Ar Rahim died and the treacherous Al Kharki took close to half of them. Specifically, all holdings in the Mediterranean including Iest, Kazmedina, Benghazi, Adana, Alexandria, Isauria, Tunis, Acre, Tripoli, Ar Rokki, Suez, and Tagaktu. This left Mustafa with Abadan, Basra, Al Batnah, Akata, Duba, Hormuz, Bandar, Homs, Kuwait, Hawalli, Chah Bahar, Maldives, Siraf, Aqaba, Jemsa, and Sanaa.

    Persia & Central Asia

    THE GHORID SULTANATE OF AFGHANISTAN
    Omar II, Sultan of Afghans
    Diplomacy: Gurgan(A) Khurasan(F)
Omar increased the size of Nishapur, cultivated Gurgan and Kirman and expanded the public works in Khwarzim and Sogdia. But he was dismayed when many of his territories dropped to Feudal Allied status, simply because of their terrain. Omar announced his support for the new primate. He considered the way that Haruf and Feyd sucked at administrating and the ramifications in the coming years.

    THE CIAO ZHONG CHINESE KINGDOM
Hei Pi, The Mad, King of the Northern Prefectures
    Diplomacy: Yumen(c) Chahar(N)
Tzeling decreed that 4 new cities be built, but without names, the construction crews were confused and so the expenses were wasted, except for the city being built in Chahar, which the tribes people of Chahar eagerly accepted as tribute. MANY cities were expanded and massive public works projects installed. In 1516 Tzeling died. His son Hei Pi took command of the more than 50,000 man army without so much as a quibble from anyone. Zhi Mei was an inept administrator, leading to a lack of infrastructure for the Empire.
A blind purge was conducted by Hei Pi in the week of his coronation. Many members of the information network were executed at Hei Pi's whim.

    THE NIHON EMPIRE
Showa I, 89th Emperor of Nihon, Descendent of Amaterasu
    Diplomacy: None
Go-Shimei was crowned Emperor upon attaining his majority. He promptly took the name Showa I. Shamuya was praised for his regency. A monopoly was granted to SGOC and Economic and Society changes were continued. Showa was informed by his agents that if you're not going to search for anything specific, agents will be spread so thin as to be ineffective. The royal tax collector noticed some discrepancies in the terrain he had to climb through in several regions and religious climates of the realm. Also, only one of the shot-gun style missionary programs was effective, that being in the region of Mantap. All others were abused. Showa finally discontinued support for all royal roads, dissolving huge trade bonuses in the mainland markets.

    Australia

THE VAKAS IMPERIUM OF THE AKETTA
Vakas Afangoo II, Sorceror-King of the Aketta
    Diplomacy: None
Vakas built a royal road to Kadinah to Orbost. He then sent Nibunos, not a spectacular general, into Erhos to pacify the lot. They sent him packing losing 1 man in 5. Possibly Shokunin should have gone in with even a tiny amount of battle assistance...

    Pacifica

    THE EMPIRE OF THE STORM
Thunderhead, Storm King, Emperor of the Middle Kingdom
    Diplomacy: None
Pe'ape'a (Starfish) attempted to lull his merchant clans into giving him their warships - they said "build them yourself old Kahuna!" So he did. With no sons to pass the empire on to, Thunderhead and Sharkeel confronted him, but Pe'ape'a didn't budge. He favored his oldest daughter Ko (Sugarcane). In 1514 when he died, Ko married Haharua (Manta), Thuderhead's son.

    The NEW WORLD

    Western North America

    THE MANITOWISH EMPIRE
Yellowfeet, Master of the Manitowish Empire
    Diplomacy: Kelowa(t)
Yellowfeet named his uncle Barkpieces as his heir, since it seems that he is unsuccessful at producing an heir. His other uncle Longhands died two summers later.

    THE CNORIG COLONY OF NYDANIA
    Hamlet II, Konik von Nydanland
    Diplomacy: Serrano(F) Washo(H)
Balder Ketilsso completed the conversion of Serrano to Roman Catholic while Hamlet married a tribal princess, who bore him twins and another boy before dieing in childbirth in 1515. As a result, Serrano dropped back to tributary status.

    THE POPOCELOTL KINGDOM
Uictolio, King of the Smoke Jaguars
    Diplomacy: None
Uictolio considered converting to Roman Catholic. This did not sit well with his far flung kingdom, and Mescalero and Yuma revolted.

    Eastern North America

    THE ILLINOIS CONFEDERATION
Andru the Devout, Great Liege of the Ancient People
    Diplomacy: None
Andru built up more than two thousand men to put an end to the Adeni menace and sent his son Mark and Running Fox as second in command. They arrived in Michigamea in April 1514 as planned.

         Battle of Michigamea 1514
Mark Skywalker arrived in the spring to find that the region only had a small garrison of field works and so he set upon them. No sooner than he started this action Benko of Wenro, Chief of Adena himself arrived with close to double Mark's forces. Surprised by the attack, Mark could only fight a defensive retreat. Benko's cavalry pursued him to the border, cutting down many of the fleeing forces.
Andru died in 1516. Mark Skywalker moved the army to Kaskaskia to take command of the throne. The bulk of the kingdom was fiercely independent and took the opportunity to leave the Confederation.

    THE ADENA EMPIRE
Benko Lawenro, Great Chief of Adena
    Diplomacy: None
Benko in Chitimacha marched up the Great Snake, lowering the status of several regions to feudal allied, and others to non paying tributary. He picked up several garrisons and then marched into Michigamea, where he caught the Illinois Confederacy in the act of pacifying the region. [See Battle of Michigamea]
Meanwhile, in Erie, Ishul confirmed the fact that Adena is firmly Roman Catholic. But that didn't stop the forces of Kornland from marching in from Wenro.

         Battle of Adena 1512
Ishul was prepared for the attackers, but he didn't know which direction they would come from, so he centered his forces around Adena. He didn't have to wait long as more than two thousand cavalry forces attacked from Wenro. Ishul was killed in the exchange, but the artillery and field works, in addition to the battle assistance reports won the day for the Adena. Theodore retreated back to Wenro.
With Ishul's death, Benko arrived in Erie late in 1516 to mourn his loss. His grandson Pepin II was named heir apparent while Benko proclaimed that Adena was no longer a Confederation, but was indeed an Empire.

    BONNY KINGDOM OF MERCAIN
Malcolm IV, Elder King of the Land, Sword of the Vanished Tribes
    Diplomacy: None
Malcolm attempted to rename all the areas under his domain. This wasn't accomplished, but it did confuse his generals so that they couldn't find the route to invade Adena at Tobacco (surprisingly not renamed by Malcolm). Trade was initiated by many means (although in the end, only the land route worked) with Kornland.

    THE BLESSED COUNTRY OF KORNLAND
Augustin Simonsen, Jarl of Kornland, Sachem of Chowan, Keeper of the Faith, Protector of Former Atakapa Lands
    Diplomacy: None
Augustin took more than a thousand men across the Ohio River to attack the Cherokee people. He was repulsed by the woodland people. Combined, the losses there and in Adena [See Battle of Adena] had the net effect of reducing Kornland's army qualities down to the range similar to their neighbors, who they couldn't beat in combat.
Hector, Augustin's 17 year old son and heir designate, ruled from Massburg. Catawba dropped to non-paying tributary while Shawnee and Yuchi revolted, while Yamasee returned.

    Central America

    THE OAXACA EMPIRE
Coatlamoc, King of Oaxaca, Lord of the Maya, Master of the Otomi, Leader of the Quetzal World, Emperor of Mexico
    Diplomacy:
Coyoaxiatl died in Otomi supporting Cuauhtemoc's nearly disastrous diplomacy efforts. Without postal roads, Quiche finds itself very far from the homeland.

    Western South America

    THE INKA EMPIRE
    Sonny Flakes, Coca Mogul
    Diplomacy: None
Sonny built a postal road from Tiwanaku to Nogerz. Dexter was a much better administrator than Vitamin.

    Southern South America

    THE WAJ MAPU CHE
Lord King Aragu, sovereign over the Four Parts of the Earth
    Diplomacy: Huilliche(A))
Aragu expanded his cities, built walls and field fortifications, improved living conditions and finally built the port of Buenos Aires in Puelche.

    Amazonia & Eastern South America

    THE EMIRAT OF ALAGOAS (PARAIBA)
Lijima Abdallah, Chief of the Paraiba, Emir of Alagoas
    Diplomacy: None
Lijima felt a little woozy, then a little queezy, then a little peekid, then a little faint, then a little nauseous, then a little sick. Then he felt better.

    TUPINAMBA
    Corn Flower, Top Tupi Tribesman
    Diplomacy: None
Corn Flower saw the beginning stages of a nationwide implosion of his people into smaller states as the infrastructure was massively over-burdened. More than half of the nation dropped to allied status.
