THIS TURN TOOK A LONG TIME: To be honest, I took back Lords 10 on an emergency basis. So I had to budget my time just to get any work done. Juggling the three games that I have slowed all of them down. I do what I can to speed things up, but I'm stuck for now.
3 YEAR TURNS: Lords 10 will switch to 3 year turns after turn 90 (1520 AD).
MISTAKES: Make sure your stats are correct for this turn. If there are any mistakes let me know so I can fix them for you. I have corrected that Trade Volume bug that plagued Scott Hagen.
GREAT WALLS (Clarification): So long as there are troops on your side a Great Wall section, no army may pass through it without your permission. Great Walls can be bombarded and breeched by siege engineers by using the active siege command. Once breeched, the attackers must still face a doubling of the defenders CV value.
HEAVY WARSHIPS IN RIVER ZONES: Heavy Warships because of their great size & draft cannot navigate River Zones.
HOMELAND PUBLIC WORKS BONUS INCOME: The doubling of the homeland regional income includes Public Works Bonus. So as of this turn that income has been doubled.
SEA ZONE MAP CHANGE: The Bay of Biscay is next to the English Channel and Brittany no longer faces the Celtic Sea.
MERCANTILE COMBINES: Having considered the runaway problem of Mercantile Combines, I have introduced new rules governing these entities to bring them back to Earth. 1) Home Nation Rule: Most Mercantile Combines are given a Charter from one nation and one nation alone, their Home Nation, the nation from which they originated. This rule has profound effects on the Mercantile Combine. The Home Nation is entitled to roughly 20% of the Mercom's income as taxes. Without it or an agreed to arrangement, the Charter is revoked. Without a Charter, the Mercantile Combine's operations are hamstrung and will suffer rebellions from all offices in areas not speaking the Mercome language, not adhering to the Mercom's religion. This rule is in effect now. 2) Mercom Location Leech Rule: All Mercom Locations produce more income for the host city or region in total. However, half of money the Mercom exacts from an office is lost to the Host Nation. Example: The Hanseatic League placed a branch office in Copenhagen, the Hansa will get 50% of the city taxes, but the Danes will lose 25%. The economy has been improved by 25% for a total of 125% collected in taxes. This rule will be in effect Turn 90. These rules plus others are detailed in the Plate Games Supplement.
MERCENARIES: All Geographic Regions will have 10mi in their Merc Pool. Additional Mercenaries are available as Merc Bands which will be listed in the body of this newsfax. The full rules governing Merc Bands are found in the Plate Games Supplement.
COLOR CODED NATION HEADERS: The Colors coded on each nation represents your technology level. GREY is Tech 1 & 2, BLUE is Tech 3, RED is Tech 4, GOLD is Tech 5, GREEN is Tech 6, AQUAMARINE is Tech 7, PURPLE is Tech 8, BROWN is Tech 9 and OLIVE is Tech 10.
LORDS 10 UNIT CONVERSION

THE AKA'MURRID EMIRATE OF FULANI
Mohammad II, Emir of the Fulani, The Philosopher-King
of the Sahel
Ali Ravo, the Vizier, had no policy
in place to deal with the Jihadists in his nation. Still they wanted
to go to Europe and kick some Christian butt. In the May 1509, he
was offered a solution by Biri al Karfuzi who up to a few weeks ago was
the Sultan of Daza and was his enemy. Biri had arrived with 13,000
Jihadin of his own.
"I'm on my way north. Have your
Jihadin join me and the lands that I once ruled are yours for the taking."
"I'm all for that."
Biri left, heading north by way the
Almoravid's Sanhaja Highway. Ali Ravo then noticed why Biri left
the Daza lands in a huff. They were a mess!
THE SAGA OF BIRI'S JIHAD
Biri al Karfuzi's loyal jihad troops
were stationed near Umfuflu where tens of thousands of tribesmen were on
the verge of riot. He had not the will to face them for he had dreams
of adventure in far away lands. He went outside to the Jihadin and
told them his plan:
"We shall join our Muslim brothers
and defeat the infidels of Rom!"
They raised their swords and cheered
and left a home rapidly devolving into choas. He would be Sultan
of Daza al Karfuzi no more. Travel was easy by way of roads westard
where the Almoravids ruled. The Christians were said to live in lands
'north of the Almoravids'. The parade would go through the land they
had once had rebelled against - Aka'murra Fulan. It was a conflict
started by Biri's father Ghardag against the law of Ali Ravo who ruled
in the name of the boy Mohammad II. But Biri had no beef against
them and besides they had Jihadin that they themselves had no idea what
to do with. Biri's forces, 6000 knights and 7000 swordsmen, paraded
through the streets of Gao and came to a stop before the Imperial Palace.
Giri demanded an audience with Ali Ravo to settle things before going further.
"The situation in Daza has become
intolerable. You may have it. I just want to fight in Allah's
name." Biri spoke to Ali Ravo, "You have jihadin yourself why don't
you join me?"
Ravo approved the deal for he would
see both the Jihadin and the Karfuzi go away. He granted them full
honors within the city ao long that they leave in a fortnight.
And so, now swelled to 23,500 lancers
and 29,000 infantry, Biri's Jihad became a serious endevour. They
marched by road to the ancient city of Koumbi. Then they headed through
the wildlands to the Moravid border. They were greeted by Sanhaja
guardsmen at Timiris. Their arrival was neither celebrated nor opposed.
The more north they went huger crowds would gather to watch, some cheered
them. Finally in 1511, the group stopped at the Tariq Strait crossing
the Morocco. There were only 10 ferries there, not enough to ensure
a quick and safe crossing. Biri called the order to camp. His
black Sudansese brigade would have to wait a little longer to join their
Muslim brothers in the newly opened lands of Faranj and Ingiz. So
Biri sent letters to the Sultans of Iest and Sevilla and to the Caliph
in Baghdad requesting ships to allow them to cross the Mediterranean.
THE SULTANAT AD DAZA
AL KARFUZI
An uprising against the vacant throne
of Biri led to much confusion in the Karfuzi lands. Ultimately all
the regions of the Sultanat: Bornu, Daza, Gwari, Kanauri and Zaria became
independent.
MAP CHANGES: Umfuflu was destroyed.
Ngazarguma and Matata each were reduced to 3 GPv.
THE SUPREMACY OF TOGO
Oduduwa, Supreme Oba of Togo
DIPLOMACY: Ife(nt)
Things were reather peaceful in Togoland.
There were no jihads nor tribal insurgency to worry about. The Ife
allies stopped sending tribute. Their leader Koshaka had passed away.
South Africa
THE BANTU KINGS OF OKOYO
Ogourke, Ba King
DIPLOMACY: N'gao(c), Uige(fa)
The oppressed masses were especially
violent in the lands of Kongo. Anti-government forces tried to oust
Ogourke in Kongo but these were ruthlessly put down in 1510. But
while that was going on, the rebel Mbanzas massed and seized the province
of Cuango. They then spread their influence throughout much of the
nation to Matadi, Kongo, Mbundu and Lui to Omotoe and Kasai in the south
to the Shona Corridor. Prince Ofusu in the north and Kwazikume in
Uige led pro-government forces and reclaimed Kongo, Mbundu and Lui.
They could not dislodge the Mbanzas from Matadi nor Cuango and came to
an impasse in 1512. Much of the nation was devastated. And
further rebellions occurred. The lands of the Shona Corridor (Barotse,
Lunda and Chokwe), ruined by the civil war rebelled. N'gao became
neutral, quietly.
MAP CHANGES: Uguni, Isandana, Mibeki
and destroyed. Cities lost population: Hyambo (3 GPv), Boma (7),
Cabinola (2) and Luanda (3).
THE MBANZA REBELLION
Kokunde
The Mbanza control Cuango, Matadi,
Omote and Kasai. They possess a force of 53,000 against the highly
trained 27,000 Okoyo loyalists.
THE GREAT ZIMBABWE
Malachai, Chief of Zimbabwe, Holder of the Five Twin
Jackal Chair
DIPLOMACY: Brava(c), Mahabo(f), Malawi(ne), Tswana(hs)
The Shonan made some efforts to pick
up periphery region, to mixed effects. Prince Teser, Malachai's son,
died at the age of 28.
MAP CHANGES: Lots of new cities: Tirza,
Kilwa's port. Morondava, Mahabo's Mozambique port. Mpumalanga,

East Africa
THE KRAKAS KINGDOM OF AETHIOPIA
Gobbu VI, Alem 'Elum, King of Aethiopia
DIPLOMACY: Wadai(nt), Haraze(ne), Batha(hs)
The Aethiopians began to send diplomats
to non-Christian border regions instead of their military conversion army.
After some lukewarm response, the best diplomats remembered why the forced
assimiliation policy that was so successful.
MAP CHANGES: City growth - Gondar
(2 Gpv), Abbis (3), Artoli (2), Bargal (4), Nyala (2), Jima (2), Kusti
(2), Akala (2), Omdurman (3). Salamat and Berbera are cultivated.
Chalbi, Kerkoure, Kreda and Quada have accepted Coptic Christianity.
The last link of the Trans-Sudan Highway was almost done. There's
still work to be done from Chad to Ataway.
North Africa
THE GREAT JIHAD
To avenge the destruction of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, Jihadin
armies crossed the Mediterranean and the Atlantic to overwhelm Christian
lands. The Jihad story was split into three parts:
1. Biri's Jihad (West Africa)
2. Ingizian Jihad (England)
3. Faranj Jihad (Saxonia)
THE INGIZIAN JIHAD
The Arrudid Sultan of Iest and the Almoravid Emirat of Andalusia agreed
to pool their resources and send their armies where they thought the most
good could be done. In the Spring of 1509, two flotillas congregated
within sight of the Great Lighthouse, of Tangier (Jibal Shama). The
main thrust and the great African Navy went north. The rest, mostly
transports, went across the Atlantic (see the Adenite-Kornish War in the
New World section below). The fleet of some 600 Ifrikyan Mrakib-Hardi
and 38 Iesti carracks led Sultan Khalid and Admiral Abdul Urkarw along
with Princes Saladin and Azim of Andalus with 50 galleons and 25 Naos sailed
north along the west coast of Portugal and headed into the Celtic Sea and
Helston, the main port and capital of England. The English had a
navy of 127 galeasses. The Saxon Prince of Flanders, Henry, arrived
to help out. He noticed immediately that Lord Admiral Steward Owen
Derby was outnumbered and outgunned. The English navy was sunk, disabled
or captured. The rocky cliff beaches were ready to be assailed.
On April 1510 it all began. From the Arab ships came 58,500 Iberian/North
African Jihadin cavalry, 111,500 Jihadin musketeers, 250 jihad artillery,
5 Andalusian mortars and 25 Sevillan siege platforms led by the gifted
Andalusian tactician Istafah Muwarri. Istafah didn't last long.
He was tricked into entering an isolated cove where he was attacked and
murdered by a gang of English thugs. Leadership of the Jihad was
assumed by the mediocre Yasir al Mrallid called Ironjack by the English
and by the even less competant Jamal abd an Nasir, both from North Africa.
Prince Muhammad, Kadir's brother from Andalusia, also lent his experience
but was more often in his tent playing chess. Their overwhelming
forces found their way inland from the beaches. They ran over the
English defense force of 4000 armored infantry, 23,500 swordsmen and 6000
engineers. Lord Derby was captured. Ralph Hedeby, a lieutenant
of King Buford, went over to the Jihad camp and converted to Islam (becoming
Abdullah Ralif). The Jihad only lost 3500 men including Prince Muhammad.
>From land and sea they began an assault of Helston which occurred June
1510. The English were completely unorganized inside and did not
stop the scaling of the walls. Inside a day Helston was captured.
Both King Buford and Laurence Melvin converted to Islam. The Saxon
Prince Henry was disgusted and returned to his home country (which would
also be invaded within three months). Much of the government, the
treasure room and the library were captured by the Jihad. For a pension,
Buford agreed to retire. he handed his daughter to be married to
Yasir who was crowned Sultan at Helston in July. At that month, the
Cornwall fortress, Camelot, was captured. Its defender Ulaf Neville
jumped off the tower's top upon the shore rock way below. At London,
Wilmingham tried to organize a defense, but he died. What was left
of the English Kingdom disintegrated.
The Jihad didn't stop. They ensured that Cornwall would become Sunni
Muslim through military conversion. In 1511, Wessex was conquered
and sword-pointed to Islam. And in 1512, Sussex and London were occupied.
There wasn't the time to administer another forced conversion.
THE SULTANATE OF IEST
Khalid ibn Abu al Arrod, Sultan of Mahidia
Sultan Khalid cleared the sea for
his Jihad to land in Ingzia and then came home with a slightly larger navy.
The Mahgrebi presence in the New World was stepped up. The
Africans had long planned and outfitted an expeditionary force to the transAtlantic
continents. They had gotten rutters from the Moors. The troops
were ready to go. It took a year to cross the sea and once they did
the joint Almoravid-Iesti navy unloaded combined armies along the coast
of Creek. Both Creek and Yamasee were easily conquered. The
city Atlanta was sacked and burned. Yamasee was militarily converted
to Sunni Islam. Control of these Jedadinyi outposts (called Rarbiya)
was left in Iesti hands. There was a rash of murders in 1509-10,
in Ad Diffah, as Sidrah, Egypt and Lybia. In Africa itself entire
tribes were found dead in their tents. Authorities could not explain
except that they were all related.
MAP CHANGES: Carib has a new city
called Medina Karib. Yamasee and Camangato are Sunni Muslim.
THE ALMORAVID EMIRATE OF ANDALUSIA
Kadir, Emir as Sevilla
The Moors assisted Iest and lent troops
strength both to the Jedadinyi expedition and the Ingizian Jihad.
Trade was regretibly cut with the Italians and the Helveticans. Prince
Saladin came home from Ingiz in triumph with 10 more warships, captured
from the now-defunct English navy. Related to the crime in Iest,
dead bodies were found in Sagunto. The identidy of the victims were
unknown. There was also a murder spree in Andalusia.
THE NORMAN KINGDOM OF
ENGLAND
Defeated by the Jihad, the English
king and government were absorbed by it. Those lands left unconquered
(Anglia, Connaught, Dyffed, Gwynned, Lancaster, Lothian, Mercia, Munster,
Northumbria, Strathclyde and Ulster) became independent. The Hebrides
became a part of the Kingdom of Moray. Refugee transports have escaped
to Saxonia, Thaery land, Baltica and Poland.
THE SULTANATE OF ELSUT (Ingiz
Jihad)
Yasir al Mrallid, Sultan of Ingiltarra, Northern Sword
of Islam
The Ingiz Jihad rules Cornwall, Sussex
and Wessex from the city of Elsut (Helston). Their forces seem anxious
to expand north.
MAP CHANGES: Cornwall has become Sunni
Muslim. Wessex is under a Sunni military regime. Helston is
now called Elsut. Elsut lost population and is now 6 GPv.
THE KINGDOM OF MORAY
Angus Og Mac Donald of Islay, Fifth Lord of the Isles,
Lord of Argyll and Kintyre, Earl of Ross, Captain of Clan Donald, Ri Innse
Gall
DIPLOMACY: Highlands(hm), Hebrides(f), Strathclyde(c)
The Mac Donalds, descendants of Somerled,
who threw the Norse yoke from the Highlands at around 1100 AD had long
ruled the Highlands. In 1336, the pro-Saxonian Earl was ousted by
John Mac Donald of Islay who became the first Lord of the Isles.
Ruling the Highlands independantly from the Saxons and later, England,
Clan Donald slowly grew in prestige, but until the Jihad invasion of south
England was unimportant.
Angus Og, a brilliant commander and
diplomat, seized the Hebrides from the English and now stands ready to
unite the Celtic world against the onslaught of the Arabs.
MAP CHANGES: A capital city, Inveraray,
exists along the Minch coast of the Highlands.
THE FARANJ SAKSON
JIHAD, THE MAIN FORCE
With the influence of Lahidda's family becoming dominant in the court of
the Caliph at Baghdad, the aging Caliph Al Omarrab saw in the Jihad a chance
to leave. He would spend the remainder of his life (He was 72) smiting
the enemies of Allah with his sword. Accompanied by his lieutenants,
Bijjal and Jabal, the Caliph led a force of nearly a million men to the
great port of Antakya (Antioch). There a navy, perhaps the greatest
the world has ever seen, of xebec warships and cargo caravels, awaited
to shuttle them across the length of the Mutawassit (Mediterranean) Sea.
At the port they were joined by Beitnuba and skippers Erram and Abd Abrayl.
Even with all these boats (some 1416 sea craft) they could not fit everyone.
And in the process of loading, 20 were sabotaged, rendered unseaworthy.
The Jihad leaders took the best of the forces and would come back
to pick up the riff-raff rabble later.
At Rome, King Rolfo of Italy prayed in St. Peters Basilica as he awaited
the summons of Pope Sixtus VI. A messenger, a brother of the Order
of St. Benedict, bowed before him and bed the king follow him. At
a high ceiling room with painted frescoes on its wall depicting the known
world and the fantastic creatures of exotic places. On a chair the
pontiff got up and motioned his hand across the Northern wall, depicting
Europe, the Mediterranean and the Near East.
"I received a letter today from King Henry of the Saxons. In it he
says that he has obtained proof that the terrorists who destroyed the Jerusalem
Mosque were themselves Muslims possibly in the pay of the Caliph King.
He urges that we confront the Arabs with this unpleasant information.
(pause) But I don't think the Mahatomans will believe us now that we are
at war."
Rolfo answered, "Why don't we let the word out anyway. It can't hurt
and perhaps we'll cause the Caliph King and his chicanery to be overthrown."
"We can only pray. The Saxon Royal also has asked me to call a holy
war, a crusade as you will, to confront these devils wherever they invade.
I have already done so. All the kings of Christendom should support
the Church in this time of crisis."
"I have been in some communication with Henri myself as well as the Thaeric
King Maxim, Wilhelm of Innsbruk and Roman of Krakow. They will call
for a Holy War and sacrifice . The Saxons and the Helveticans have
volunteered to defend my new capital at Pavia."
"That is well, let us pray for their safety and for success."
After a long strategy sesssion, King Rolfo left the Church and talked to
his military subordinates, "Let us leave Rome and go to Pavia where we
can maek a stand."
Meanwhile at La Rochelle, King Henry IV sent his main military force to
cross the Alps and hlep out the Italians. All his spies had reported
that the Jihad would invade Italy and England. The combined forces
in Italy of his army, the Doges's forces from Helvetica and Italians would
be enough to stop out England, which was a daughter kingdom of his own,
he called a crusade. No one seemed interested in it. Except
his own son, Henry, who volunteered to assist the English resist the Moorish
invasion. Having made all arrangements, Henry IV, departed La Rochelle
to visit Brittany and unted their duchy to their Royal Demesne.
Two great, powerful Saracen navies took to the waters. The Africans
in the Atlantic. The Arabs in the Mediterranean. As the Arab
fleet made their voyage from Antioch in July 1509, rumors began to fly
in all cities along the Mediterranean. In italy and along the cities
of the Riviera, the word was that the Caliph and the main Jihad would land
in Liguria and attack Italy. As Saxon and Helvetican armies arrived
in Savoy, they agreed to respond to the scene as soon as possible and fortified
the beaches along that sandy coast. In Palestine and in Syria, Christian
envoys circulated the fact that the Caliph's men caused the destruction
of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. Many scoffed this as enemy
propaganda. But the (dis)information reached the right ears - the
rabble of jihadin in Aleppo. Almost a third of them lost interest
in the war and went back home. At Baghdad, the sound of laughter
could be heard from the Caliph's palace when they got wind of these crazy
stories.
Al Omarrab, Bijjal and company sailed south of Sicily and Sardinia bypassing
Italy the winter of 1509-10 and set sail once more in the Gulf of Lyon
in the Spring of 1510 and set sail once more in the Gulf of Lyon in the
spring of 1510. In April, they were allowed to enter Barcelona's
harbor and dock. Without anyone telling them not to, 841,000 jihadin
and Arab soldiers crowded into Barcelona. The shocked citizens found
themselves pacified by Muslims. Caliph Al Omarrab was attacked five
times by assassins. Two of them go through the sparse bodyguard and
killed him. From out of the shadows, a hooded man named, 'Bob' appeared.
He conferred with Bijjal and the Jihad leaders and was given overall command.
News of the occupation traveled fast. At Pavia, the Saxons general
Robert de Mellent had words with King Rolfo II.
"You said they would land in Liguria, but they're in Barcelona. We
will stop them before they move inland, lend us your army!"
"No. We believe they are executing a feint to draw out forces out
of Italy. We cannot afford to abandon our cities and the Papacy."
"You cannot seriously believe that1 If we are not united to face
the Saracen. All of us will fall!"
"Italy will not be abandoned."
General Mellent left in a huff, fuming. With the Saxon forces and
those Helvetica, he had enough to respond to the Jihad landing party.
They rushed towards Catalonia and arrived there in July.
Battle of Santa
Coloma
While Catalonia was being pacified, Jihad scouting parties spotted a half
million strong Saxon-Helvetican force just inside the Pyrannies.
Alerted to their presence, 'Bob', Bijjal and the others massed the Jihadin
against them. The two sides clashed at the sleepy hamlet of Santa
Coloma. On the Jihad side were 20,000 armored ghulams, 75,000 line
soldiers, 20,000 veteran skirmishers, 50 brass cannons, 23,000 engineers,
244,000 jihadin cavalry, 179,000 jihadin swordsmen, some armed with muskets,
and 975 field artillery pieces. The Saxon-Helveticans consisted of
10,000 Saxonian hussars, 15,000 Guyenne dragoons, 43,000 Saxon elite cavalry,
10,000 Flemish light horsemen, 57,500 Saxon musketeers, 10,000 Saxon musket
corporals, 32,500 ptichfork peasants from France, 400 Saxon artillery
pieces, 50,000 Helvetican gun-lancers, 100,000 German cavalry, 35,000 Francian
light dragoon, 30,000 Swiss pikemen, 29,000 Tyrollian flintlock soldiers,
15,000 Helvetican commandoes and 500 Helveti cannons. The deafening
sounds of the artillery combined with the smoke and the gunfire made the
scene of tranquility one very much like hell. The Jihad possessed
an 8 to 5 advantage in numbers which the Saxons were unable to make up
for firepower. The Jihadin fought with no concern for their personal
safety inflicting massive casaulties. As the Saxon/Helvetican forces
lost more than half their number, General Mellent called for a retreat
before nightfall. By midnight it was apparant the Muslims would control
Catalonia. They had lost over 300,000 men. The Saxon captain
Fuequieres of Saxe-Laurenburg and the Helvetican Marshal Keinerhof were
wounded. The mysterious, hooded 'Bob' was captured. He twisted
his neck to kill himself. When the hood was removed, it was of an
Italian looking man. He had a tattoo of a burning sword on his back.
The Jihad did not stop to military convert Catalonia - that could wait
- They headed off toward Toulouse. The Saxon-Helvetican army offered
battle in Saverdun in Armagnac, early in November 1510.
Saverdun
Now possessing a two to one advantage, the 315,500 jihadin, 138,000 auxilleries
and 1025 cannons following generals Bijjal, Beitnuba and Jabal attacked
the Saxon troops of de Mellent and Gastonage, the Helvetican forces of
Leepke, Widdig, Urfalund and Stein, some 125,000 cavalry, 25,000 elite
infantry and 9000 great guns. The Jihadin were aggressive and spirited
and shattered the fixed positions of the Catholics. Leepke and Widdig
were slain along with the rest of the United Canton forces. Urfalund
and Stein escaped back, heading back to their homes. 39,000 elite
Saxons cavalry escaped behind de Mellent and Gastonage to guard La Rochelle.
The Jihad lost 45,500 more men. Armagnac was conceeded to the Arabs.
In 1511, the Italian King, Rolfo conceeded finally that maybe the Jihad
was bypassing him. He still refused to leave his country to attack
the free-to-move Jihad troops. The Jihad advanced into Gascony and
occupied without much incident. That was completed by the end of
1511. The Saxon's king call for a counter crusade was heeded by the
Danish King Maxim III who brought his entire army with him. There
were 52,500 elite cavalry, 40,000 dragoons, 101,500 elite infantry, 121,500
line soldiers, 200 guns and 5000 sappers. They made their way from
Jutland when they heard news of Santa Coloma. Their arrival heartened
the Saxon survivors.
Rochefort
Now bolstered with Danish troops, the Saxons made a stand at the crossing
of Rochefort. The Jihad still had the numbers with 244,500 jihad
cavalry, 20,000 elite ghulams, 8000 elite musketeers, 55,000 Arab line
troops, 20,000 veteran skirmishers, 1025 artillery pieces and 23,000 miners.
The total count for the Danes and Saxons were 365,000 men with 200 guns.
They held on and the battle was equally bloody, both sides lost over 200,000
men. Ultimately field marshal Robert Mellent was killed and the Danish
top commander Sven Ganat the Violet advised a defense inside the city of
La Rochelle itself.
La Rochelle
The great capital of the Saxons was undefended with ramparts and gun batteries.
Gamut's Danish troops and the Saxon army troops now quartered inside the
buildings counted some 95,500 elite cavalry and 93,000 elite infantry,
25,000 townsfolk volunteered to fight acting as snipers and support staff.
Having been called back from Iceland, Helic de la Fleche joined King Maxim,
Gamat and Gastonage in the defense. King Henry IV was still in Brittany
safe from battle. The Jihad forces were still formidible with 137,500
jihad cavalry, 20,000 elite ghulams, 8000 elite musketeers, 20,000 veteran
skirmishers, 1025 artillery pieces and 23,000 engineers. The engineers
proved very useful for they had to blow up or undermine houses and barracades
in order to advance and fight. The defenders also lacked cannon support
and within five days were blown to bits. The Danish king's son Kjel
suffered a life threatening injury which spurred King Maxim to call for
the Danes to withdraw. The survivors, 52,500 Danish cavalry elite,
broke out and scrambled back to their country. The last Saxon troops
21,000 elite knights were obliged to surrender. They were slaughtered
anyway.
Helic de la Fleche escaped the devastation to Normandy by boat. The
tired, exhausted Jihad forces (They lost 117,500 men) found themselves
in possession of a city gutted from the mass destruction, fires and bloodshed.
They did capture the Saxon King's palace where a rich treasury was discovered.
Parts of the Saxon government; beaten and bruised made their way to Normandy
or to be with King Henry IV in Brittany. The Jihad was put off because
the Saxon University was in Rouen.
In 1512, the Jihad became autonomous from the Caliph. Beitnuba became
its first Emir. His cohorts, Bijjal and Jabal died of European flu.
THE EMIRATE OF CATALONIA (Faranj
Jihad)
Beitnuba, Sword of Islam, Emir of Faranj
Beitnuba led an army of 91,000 men
and 1025 cannons in Poitou. the Jihad was poised to proceed further
into France. Reinforcements to the tune of 230,500 inexperienced
jihad troops arrived to Catalonia early in 1512. A government was
established in Barcelona. Biri in Morocco wanted to join the others.
There are Jihad troops wanting to join them in Aleppo and Morocco.
MAP CHANGES: La Rochelle lost population,
is now 5 GPv.
THE NORMAN KINGDOM OF SAXONIA
Henry IV, King of the Saxons and of the Normans, Count
of Blois
DIPLOMACY: Asturias(ea, revolts), Brittany(fa, revolts)
The Saxons sent their forces to Italy
to defend against the Jihad. On his way there, Gastonage with 5000
found himself detoured in order to foil the raids of the Company of the
Boar. The mercenaries tried to pillage Armagnac and Gascony but Gastonage
was in their way. Gastonage, however, had to respond to Catalonia
to plug the Jihad attack. So the Boar Company was able to raid Anjou
and Orleans with no opposition. At that time the Jihad invaded and
occupied Catalonia, Armagnac, Gascony and Poitou. They defeated the
Saxon army two times in the field and once more in La Rochelle itself.
By capturing the capital, the Jihad caused a collapse of Saxonia's government.
There were rebellions everywhere: Aquitaine, Aragon, Asturias, Brittany,
Orleans, Castille, Orkney and Vermandois became neutral. Languedoc
fell under the influence of Perigord. Henry IV adn his supporters
gathered at Cherbourg, ready to push the Jihad back into the sea.
The Saxon Kingdom consists of Normandy, Maine, Anjou, Ile de France, Ponthieu,
Flanders and Lorraine.
MAP CHANGES: Aquitaine, Asturias,
Brittany and Gascony became cultivated.
THE DUCHY OF PERIGORD
Roderic, Duke of Perigord
DIPLOMACY: Auvergne(hm), Languedoc(f)
Roderic and his forces of 1000 cavalry,
6000 infantry and 20 artillery pieces raided nearly regions as the Company
of the Bear and returned home in 1511 with much loot. Roderic consulted
his secret mentor, the Yummer Yummer Man.
"I have done what you wished, what
is your next request?"
"You must become a king in your own
right. the Saxons cannot last and the people support you."
So using what resources he had, Roderic
of Perigord became sole master of Auvergne. Languedoc, isolated from
the rest of Saxonia, came under Roderic's influence in 1512.
THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Boniface X, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Servant
of the Servants of God, Supreme Pontiff on the Universal Church
CONSECRATION: La Rochelle(ab, destroyed), Paris(ab),
Angers(ab), Maine(ab), Lyons(ab), Franconia(ab), Frankfurt(ab), Sancelade(ab),
Colmar(ab), Cologne(ab), Hesse(ab), Neuhamelin(ab), Nordgau(ne), Languedoc(ne),
Lyonnais(ne)
Pope Sixtus VI knew of the crisis
facing Catholic Europe but on the surface did little. He caught ill
and died in 1509. His successor, Alexander, took the name Boniface
X. He lent government support to the Saxons who, it became soon apparant
needed it. In exchange, he tithed their governement. He also
tried to do so in Warsaw and Novgorod but influence was non-existant in
the Slavic nations. Boniface ordered preparations be made to defend
Rome and supported the Christian kings call for crusade.
THE ARLES KINGDOM OF ITALIA
Rolfo II, Rex Lagobardum
The Italian king was very concerned
about the Jihad. He fully expected them to overrun his kingdom and
stable their horses at St. Peter's Cathedral. For the sake of safety
the government and the palace was moved from the area of Rome to pacified
Pavia. The army was magnified with recruits from the countryside
and the docklands. Allied forces were called from Germany and Saxonia.
But these allies abandoned the valient defense of Italy to be destroyed.
Rolfo considered his vigilance a success for no Saracen dared tread on
Italy's fine soil. In San Andrea (the New World), Guarnaul's expeditionary
force raided Kornland. The Helvetican sent many wagon loads of grain
sacks to the Italians.
THE MERCANTILE AND BANKING SYNDICATE

The Medici saved their tremendous

THE UNITED CANTONS OF HELVETICA
Wilhelm Kemmelstim, Grand Doge of the UCH
DIPLOMACY: Banat(nt), Croatia(ea, maxed), Podraviana(aw)
The Germans took the Muslim Jihad
situation to their vests and committed their forces totally to confront
these ragheads. Such an undertaking that they took taht only minimal
forces were left at home. In a series of battles in Aquitainia, the
Helvetican forces were wiped out. Their surviving battle leaders
Keinerhof, Urfalund and Stein returned to Trangau to report the dire news.
His grace, Wilhelm, called for a national day of celebration but the nation
treated the news with shock. Banat revolted. It didn't help
that throughout all this time, the Podravinians - now joined by Bakony
- as to number 9000 riders tried to raid Slovenia. Slovenia was protected
so no one was hurt.
CHANGES: Many cities grew - Colmar(5 GPv), Lelander (9),
Frankfurt (4), Neuhamelin (6), Far Yell in the Shetlands (3) and Sancelade
(6).
THE NORDIK KINGDOM OF THAERY
Maxim (III) Goldnose, King of the Danes
DIPLOMACY:
The Danes were expecting crusaders
to appear to join the European army to fight for Christendom. Response
to the Papal cry was lukewarm. Maxim, at the last minute, after drinking
five tanards of ale, chose to commit himself and the entire Thaerian amry
to defending the Saxons as they suffered being overrun by the Arab Jihadin.
The Thaerians arrived in time for the dynamic defense of La Rochelle.
Hoever, once his son Kjel was wounded, it was clear to King Maxim and his
last best general Sven Gamat the Violet that if they stayed too long they
would all die. So in the spirit of self-preservation, 52,500 elite
cavalry broke through the Arab lines to escape back home. The Danes
would fight some other day.

DIPLOMACY: Bialoweza(ea)
The Grand Polish Prince Roman was
in support of a crusade to save Europe of the oppressive Saracen invaders.
Local response was apathetic for the Kings of Europe had great armies already
to polish off this threat. Roman tried to get to Carinthia, a Helvetican
heartland, from Bochnia. He got lost and came home. A great
influx of Papal cash was welcomed by the Ducal Reeve. Bandit wars
were reported in the woods of Bialoweza, Kiev and Warsaw.
THE KINGDOM OF THE BALTS
Gleb, King of Baltica, Prince of Novgorod
Gleb celebrated his 100th birthday

of his command of the army.

were invited to the posh event before they were marched to Georgia to join
the forces of Baghdad.

THE DAR AL ISLAM - Lahiddad Caliphat
Hasan al Lahidda, Kalifat Rasul Allah, Commander of
the Faithful
DIPLOMACY: Dulaym(t), Arran(t)
In a grim ceremonial, the Caliph called
his viziers and important men to the Divan. By his side was the Grand
Mufti, Shahib Abd Allah, the religious arm of the Caliph, who announced
the official fetva concerning the conduct of the Jihad:
"Allah demands a chastisment against
the Saxons. They were behind the destruction of the Dome of the Rock."
The Caliph Al Omarrab in a surprise
announcement then abdicated.
"I will lead the Jihad myself and
drive Islam's sword deep into the idolatrous infidel's heart!"
The Grand Mufti followed, "It is the
duty of all good Muslims to follow the example of our warrior-Caliph and
fight evil whereever it may be."
The Caliphat passed on to Hasan al
Lahidda, and he along with the Grand Vizier Aziz took over the runnning
of the vast empire.
Many of Omarrab's lieutentants joined
him in the Jihad expedition such as Bijjal, Beitnuba, Jabal with Errim
and Abd Abrayl commanding the navy. Nearly a million men made their
way to Antioch and the first group set sail in March 1509.
About 250,000 peasant Jihadin along
with 150 great cannons were left behind to be sent ahead in a second shuttle
across the length of the Mediterranean. There, they heard the rumors
that the indicated that the Grand Mufti was wrong. That the Lahiddans
were behind the destruction of the Dome of the Rock. It was a rumor
popular in the foreign quarter of Antioch port. The rumors did reach
official ears. They were publically poo-poo'ed but privately many
of the viziers and army generals distrusted the Lahiddans and had 'proof'
of their dirty deeds. In Antioch many in the peasant jihad bought
the story or at least no longer believed in the cause or wanted to go home
anyway. So by the time Errim and Abd Abrayl returned with the ships
there was only about 160,000 inexperienced jihadin left, roughly.
At that point, Ghorid Jihidists had finally arrived to the port.
A group of Dihaj holy fighters camped at Pontus. There was also a
crime fever that swept much of the Umma. In Cilicia, Pontus, Adana,
Jerusalem, Nicosea and Rayy there were mass murders, arson fires, midnight
raids and riots in the scum sections of towns.

THE ADENITE-KORNISH WAR CONTINUES (Including the Jedadinyi
Jihad)
In 1508, the Kornland-Adena war which
had taken a bitter turn was at a stalemate. the armies of Augustin
Simonsen held in Wenro and waited for reinforcements from Theodore.
Theodore picked up the Calamche garriosn and new troops from Yamasee.
He made his way to Wenro to meet Augustin. The Kornish Chief sent
his naval commander, Krolon, off with 8 warships down the Mississippi to
engage the Italians, hoping to subvert their forces.
The Italian navy was in the Atlantic.
The Colonial Admiral Lord Guarnual possessed 49 ships of the line, 30 caravels
and 2500 marines on board. From their port of safety (if you don't
count the trouble of the Free Condottieri), they sailed north to Kornland
and raided the land in April 1510. They then made their way back
to the Gulf of Mexico.
One year later, Guarnual arrived to
the Mouths of the Mississippi and spotted the 8 Kornish warships.
Krolon called on the Italian sailors to overthrow their capitans and join
the Kornland navy. The Italian sailors weren't even in the slightest
revolutionary frame of mind, considering these suggestions to be utterly
preposterous. Guarnual attacked the Kornish boats, sinking five and
capturing three. Krolon's lifeless body, thrown overboard, was eaten
by scavenger sharks (the alligators made a pass but could swim out too
far). As that was happening, Muslims forces landed on the coast of
Creek. This was a force of 5000 Moorish cavalry, 15,000 Andalusian
infantry, 7500 African cavalry, 7500 Lybian grenadiers, 50 Iesti cannons,
5000 Algerian crossbowmen, 5 mortars and 2500 elite pioneers. They
easily occupied the inland of Creek, but it took time because of the virgin
forests and lack of even terrain.
August 1511: Reinforced and ready
to go, King Augustin and his forces attacked Erie. He had 13,000
knights, 9500 infantry and 25 cannons against 15,500 foot soldiers, 1000
mounted men, 4000 gunmen (whose equipment was very primative) and 3000
miners. The Kornish forces enjoyed both good fortune and advanced
army quality. The Adenites scattered and ran into their walled city.
Down to 13,000 cavalry and 20 field artillery, Augustin and Theodore attempted
to besiege Adena, its 50 foot walls and 14,500 defenders. The Kornlanders
failed to make headway against Adena and Prince Ishul so they withdrew
back to Wenro.
In April 1512, Ishul tried a counter-offensive
against the Kornlanders encamped at Wenro. His 2000 infantry, 6000
cavalry, 4000 handgunners (who learned to use their weapons as clubs) and
1500 sappers. The wounded Theodore, Augustin, their 12,000 cavalry
and 20 cannons deftly defended themselves inflicting heavy causalties against
the Adenites. Down to 1000 cavalry the Adenites and Prince Ishul
hid into Adena. The Kornland forces were 11,500 cavalry who attempted
another assault but it failed. With 10,000 cavalry, the Kornland
army returned to Wenro exhausted. They weren't pleased to hear the
tidings of Atlanta.
The Muslim invaders, the joint Mahgrebi-Andalusian
force entered Yamasee, unopposed. The city of Atlanta was captured,
sacked and burned. Yamasee was militarily converted by the Moors.
The Arrodids gained adminsitrative control of Creek and Yamasee.
The Bisonclan was also active, working
in the pay of Illini. The mercenary band raided Taposa, Choctaw and
Chatot but stopped short of Yamasee because of the Arabs. They fell
back to Choctaw, because they can sack it if no one pays them.
THE BLESSED COUNTRY OF KORNLAND
Augustin Simonsen, Jarl of Kornland, Sachem of Chowan,
Keeper of the Faith, Protector of Former Atakapa Lands
The loss of Atlanta caused a government
collapse. That with all the various raids and attacks meant that
Kornland was reduced to territories along the Atlantic coast, Yuchi, Shawnee
and Wenro. Tonkawa and Calamche without their occupying garrisons
became independant. Taposa and Chatot revolted under pressure from
the Bisonclan. The Choctaw army, having been wiped out in battle,
revolted and became independant. Adena conquered Caddo and Atakapa
and regained Cherokee.
MAP CHANGES: Atlanta has been destroyed.

At home, Ishul defended but was fortunate despite his heavy losses to hold
the invaders to another standoff.
