CAMPAIGN TEN
Turn #76

Industrial Stage One: Renaissance
1464 Anno Domini

Next Turn's Orders Due: Friday, 21 October 1996

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Monday Due Dates: I've finally done it. I graduated from college some seven years ago but I stuck ritually to the Friday due dates. No more. I am switching to Monday due dates so I can establish a weekday discipline. This may actually help to get turns out sooner. After Oct 13th, I will be in Phoenix most of the time.

New eMail: I have a new internet carrier. Please send all electronic messages to plate@inficad.com. Thanks.

Capital Command Control Radius: This will radiate from your capital city your nation has an infrastructure of 2 or more. If your king is outside the CCR, the capital will be overthrown. Any Centralist Monarchy may choose to radiate CCR from the king if they so choose.

Chancellors (Clarification): There seems to be more confusion than necessary about this Imperial leader. All Imperial governments will have a Chancellor leader automatically rolled up and placed in the #2 slot of your stat sheet if the slot has not already been filled. If you don't like the chancellor that you have, you may replace the leader with one of your own choice (from your royal family, lieutenants, or a re-roll). You may even choose not to have a chancellor but know this: In order for an Imperial government to radiate CCR from the capital, a chancellor must be present there during the turn, otherwise CCR will radiate from the ending location of your king. Chancellors effectively count against allowed princes, not against BL leaders. Empires with chancellors may have heirs activated in a princely slot. Chancellors act as regents in case the king is not of age.
Like the King, the Chancellor has many titles: Vizier, Prime Minister, Regent, Kanpaku, Cardinal, Secretary of State & Chief Magistrate.

Nautical Stats Investments: All non-Renaissance (Tech 8) nations may not invest in Nautical Stats: Conduit Limit, Trade Range & Navigation. Any gold or NFP will be saved if attempted.

2.10.3 Adjustment: Project Support: The PWB component of the Project Support has been changed. It is now
Support = (PWB/((Imperial Size + Size Divisor)*10))2

Fax Messages: If you have written something for the fax, just eMail it to me.

AFRICA

THE AKA'MURRID EMIRATE OF FULANI
Seldez II, Emir of the Fulani, The Philosopher-King of the Sahel
DIPLOMACY: none
They colonized Garou to (0/5) Sunni Muslim. There was some other stuff I could tell you but the border guards consficated my notes.

THE SHARIFAT OF SENEGAL
Acca us Sharif, Emir al Barr an Nihayi
DIPLOMACY: none
It was good to be left alone. Al Lahir escaped.

THE KINGDOM OF BORNU
Bolokar died and the Bornu tribes had a falling out. Bornu, Daza and Kanem have all become neutral. Wealthy, yes, but neutral.

THE SUPREMACY OF TOGO
Elembouko, Supreme Oba of Togo
DIPLOMACY: no effect
The Kongo came in force to protest Togo's control of the Bightland. By count, 64,000 spearmen and 11,000 diggers crossed into Douala to force tribute there. Al Salimdu with his force of 14,000 men (some had already deserted to join the Kongo butchers) responded to the area. Both he and the native militia were entirely wiped out. The Kongo army made Douala one of their protectorates. They then went on to pacify Benin, Ife and Yoruba, facing little or no opposition. A navy of 15 warships terrorized the coast and successfully raided Gagnoa and Togo. Igbo became neutral.

THE BANTU KINGS OF KONGO
Lassa, King of Ba-Congo
DIPLOMACY: none
Prince Nashingway got the green light (so we would say) to conquer that which was rightfully Ba. He and his battalion of 73,500 fighting men crushed the Bighters in Doulala and another force of 5500 Togonads in Benin as he made his conquest path right through the Niger Delta to the doorstep of the Togo Temple. Douala, Benin, Ife and Yoruba were added to the Kongo tax rolls. Bamusu and the navy gained extra cash raiding Togo's coastline.

East Africa
Mercs: 10mi, 10mw

THE GREAT ZIMBABWE
Benlos, Chief of Zimbabwe, Holder of the Five Twin Jackal Chair
DIPLOMACY: none
Benlos had a lot of catching up to do. He wanted to be dramatic. The main Zimbabwe army attacked and enslaved the Luangua goys. This army moved slowly into Malawi but didn't attack quite yet. Harklide used the navy to lug an army over the sea to Madagascar. He had to do that in order to force tribute from Sakalava. After that was done, Harklide and the survivors came home to eat their barbeque gnu. A royal road was built from Rozwi to Kafue, which connected both Zimbabwes.

THE KRAKAS KINGDOM OF AETHIOPIA
Gobbu VI, Alem 'Elum, King of Aethiopia
DIPLOMACY: Ain Farah(t)
Itor and Mech engaged themselves in the toughest conquest job yet - the Brown Camel Nomads of Kerkoure. The 4500 kngihts and 15,500 archer riders weren't enough to do the job. After two battles, the Copts gave up having lost all but 8500 men against the Kerkouren - hardly enough to even pacify the joint. In Kreda, Ataway town was founded. A Lion Road connected the new urban center to Zakouma.

EUROPE

Western Europe
Mercs: 10mc, 20mi, 10ma

THE SULTANATE OF IEST
Ahmed al Kaffiyin, Sultan of Mahidia
DIPLOMACY: none
Two new cities were built: One in Sinai called Jemsa with a port to the Red Sea; the other was Aqaba in Petra also having a harbor to the Red Sea. Both were connected by royal road to the highway that went through Sinai. Aswan continued to be blockaded. The Medici shut down their office there. The Pope lost the monastery in the region.

THE ALMORAVID EMIRATE OF ANDALUSIA
Istafa (III) ibn Ruda, Emir as Sevilla
DIPLOMACY: none
The Almoravids halted their war with Senegal to catch their breath. Kazmedina, Ar Rokki, Porto and Toledo became bigger and better cities. Trade started (by way of Ar Rokki) with Islam, Helvetia, Bochnia and the Crimeans.

THE NORMAN KINGDOM OF ENGLAND
Edwin, King of England
DIPLOMACY: none
Pastures were opened up for the serfs to farm in. Otherwise things were just dull with the usual, miserable weather.

THE NORMAN KINGDOM OF SAXONIA
Henry IV, King of the Saxons and of the Normans, Count of Blois
DIPLOMACY: none
The Prime Minister Guy Renault who kept the Kingdom in order, maintained the anti-Church policy. For one thing that fleet sent to trade with Rome had to be recalled. Yet he encouraged people to be faithful to Jesus and the local parish priest. A regal road was slabbed down between Lyon and Vienne and also betwixt Vienne and Sete. Trade with Baltic and Islam was readied.

THE LIGURIAN KINGDOM OF ITALY
Arturo, Rex Lagobardum
DIPLOMACY: Corsica(a)
Raphael Tilitia, the 'Discoverer' of the New World, returned to the islands called Nova Italia. He suffered greatly this time. He lost most ships in the two gale storms on the way. With 8 galleons left, he crossed from Bermuda to the Azores and ran into more tempests. Suchaoy drowned on the wya back and Tilitia got back on a barely sea worthy skiff, lucky to be alive, much less carry those rutters under his shoulder.
Lord Mercurcio and Tomaso did their Guinnean encore. With 25,000 swordsmen, they landed on Susu and fought off deadly insects while they attacked the natives in order to kill them all. The natives ambushed the Europeans too many times and the soldiers lost their nerve and fled to the boats. The expedition returned to Marseilles and cursed the strange jungles.

THE MERCANTILE AND BANKING COMPANY OF LIVORNO (Medici)
Ricardo d'Medici
DIPLOMACY: none
The Medici did their business passively. Aswana was closed due to the Arab blockade.

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Pius V, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Servant of the Servants of God, Supreme Pontiff on the Universal Church
DIPLOMACY: none
The Ligurians sent some cash to forgive them of their sins. Pius V did the prayer and wondered what the Ligurians had really done that was so bad. An intruder was spotted in the Papal Library. What he was after was uncertain. Nothing was missing.

Eastern Europe
Mercs:

THE UNITED CANTONS OF HELVETICA
Klove Charofsi, Grand Doge of the UCH
DIPLOMACY: none
Weitoffel disappeared in Epirus. It must have been the Curse of the Albanian Goat. A port fortress was built in Illyria. Citherione and Wyst grew to 9 Gpv and 10 Gpv respectively.

THE NORDIK KINGDOM OF THAERY (Eystein)
Javik Thundervoice, King of the Danes
DIPLOMACY: none
The Nordiks ate their pigfat chips and threw biscuits at each other.

THE DUCHY OF BOCHNIA
Stashu, Duke of Bochan
DIPLOMACY: Goryn(hs, so they were pacified), Turov(hs)
The Bochnians tried their hand as sissy diplomacy because all their neighbors were getting antsy about their warlike ways. The Goryn were still aching from that last invasion tow turns ago and told Stashu where he can stash his head. Stashu crushed their balls and pour gravy on their broken bodies. The Turov weren't Christian but at least were honest in their hostility so the Bochnian Duke left them be (for now). Galich liked Bochan so much they converted to the true faith. Danzig and Radom grew to 3 Gpv cities. A postal road now connects Radom to Lodz.

THE KINGDOM OF THE BALTS
Gleb, King of Baltica, Prince of Novgorod
DIPLOMACY: none
Kymia was colonized to (1/7) by Roman Catholics. Josip found his entire army frolicking with faires in the woods. Better get that bismol fast.

THE UKRAIN EMPIRE
Jared, Prince of Kubishev
DIPLOMACY: none
None of Ukrain's neighbors seemed ambitious enough to crush this tiny little empire.

THE DIHAJ KHANAT
Chevak, Mighty Servant of Allah
DIPLOMACY: none
Another city was almost completed in Yayik. Stay tuned. Kuban got even more Muslim converts. Chevak started training for the Olympics.

THE ROMAN DESPOTATE OF CRIMEA
Nervi Psechulen, Despot of Chersonopolis
DIPLOMACY: none
Old Xenophon died. His son Constantos died. Even Constantos' son Andrei died. So Xenophon's great-grandson Nervi became the new Despot. This is such a cool game. The Comneni meddled in Pereaslavl.

ASIA

The Middle East
Mercs:

THE ROMAN EMPIRE (Abydos)
John II Comnenus, Imperator Romanus, Basileus of New Rome
DIPLOMACY: Moldavia(f), Pereaslavl(nt to Crimea), Atelkuzo(fa)
The Zaporozhie army was repatriated by General Justin while the former Psechulen vassals were embraced. Bulgaria itself was colonized to (2/5) EO. City levels increased at Varna, Adrianople, Salonika, Chalcedon, Ariana, Katerini and Bucharest. The Ariana-Bucharest road was opened to travelers. Moldavia became a 100% true black-robe Orthodox land. Extra icon processions were held in festive occasion there.

THE DAR AL ISLAM - ARBILIQ CALIPHATE
Al Mustakim, Kalifat Rasul Allah, Commander of the Faithful
DIPLOMACY: Charsionon(f)
Those cities only got bigger. Basra, Najaf, Baghdad, Samarra became 13 Gpv. Tabriz was up to 10 Gpv last I looked. Tirnova was tettering at 9 Gpv. Nicosea could only be 8 Gpv. Hawalli and Attalia attained their 6th level of populace. Akrakos elevated to 4 Gpv. Harran and Akkaq sprawled to 3 Gpv each.

THE ZARUDID EMIRATE OF NISHAPUR
Bahram, Emir of Nishapur
DIPLOMACY: none
Nishapur was buried in sand after a heavy storm.

THE GHORID SULTANATE OF AFGHANISTAN
Ali, Sultan of Afghans
DIPLOMACY: Khokhand(f), Kuldja(t)
The mountain postal path upgraded to sierra highway with the sweat of many slaves. Tughril II caught a boulder and this terrible affliction killed him (symptoms: curshed bones and body, loss of blood). Just of age Ali was placed on the Goody Platform for all the nobles to prostrate themselves before.

India & South-East Asia
Mercs:

THE HARAYUK RAJPUT EMPIRE
Rupika Yahalapala II, Khan of Khans, Master of Kaunaj
DIPLOMACY: none
The Khan didn't see the point in leaving the opulent place with all those serving girls, tasty food and theatres every evening. Goa grew to 9 Gpv. Monkeys were hired to keep Goa's walls intact. The workers were shifted from the guild system to wage contracts.

THE CHALUKYA KINGDOM OF BANAVASI
Ammakarkachangogupta-varman, Maharaja in Banavasi, Yogi of the Maldives
DIPLOMACY: none
For the Chalukyas' bounty of noodles (grown in cultivated fields, y'know), the Makassar sent their jade coins. The excess cash came in handy for the foundation of Bombay in Lata. Kollam Bow then grew to 4 Gpv. Chichigupta nibbled on a bone at dinner which activated a rare brain disease which caused the poor king to dance to death. His youthful son Ammakarka-Changogupta wondered if this was a Yogi trick.

THE REALM OF BURMA
Anirphadhan, King of Burma, Maharaja Myanmar
DIPLOMACY: Arakan(aw)
Anirphadhan guarded his stuff. He couldn't have Samatata because some 6500 expert cavarly, 3000 cavalry lite, 5000 great-swordsmen, 10,000 crossbowmen and 20,000 javelineers from Makassar wouldn't let his diplomats talk to them. The Arakan were extremely insulted by Uzakyan that they declared war. Pendash grew to 3 Gpv.

THE VIET VICEROYALTY OF MAKASSAR
Zhen Wu, Viceroy of Makassar
DIPLOMACY: Samatata(a), Flores(ea), Timor(a)
Prince Zhen Lao arrived to Samatata and won the local dynasty over with gifts, charms, a demonstration of military power and a play on their fears of Burma. It worked very well. His older brother Zhen Chiang could have repeated the effect in Flores islands but died in 1464 before he could consumate his marriage to the island chief's daughter. It must have been the blood soup. A monsoon storm sunk Jok Kusto and his junk craft. Srivijaya became a 10 Gpv city.

China
Mercs:
10mec, 10mei

THE DAI VIET GUO
Phan Monphu, Wang Dai Viet
DIPLOMACY: Kachin(fa), Kayah(t), Manipur(fa)
The Dais further extended their grip on the Shan Highlands. Phan Thieu died of illness when he was 49. His son Monphu consolidated power quickly by naming his inexperienced younger brother as Chief Magistrate of the Center Court. The Dukes of the Four Directions were unhappy with this choice of a stripling for an elder's job.

THE MAHIYANA BUDDHIST MISSION
[vacant], Abbot of the Relics
Acting Chief Acolyte,
Vijay
DIPLOMACY: none
In his dotage years, Karmasungi broke from his trance and uttered these words:
"Eat, drink and be merry and do it in moderation."
The shakespears in the temple ran out and shouted this from mountain top to mountain top. Karmasungi's life left him then in 1464. The Buddha spirit chose to return very soon to a new life, as yet undiscovered. Abbeys were built in Guai, Taili, Kwangchou and Lizhou. Xung Xou Ma was not a good builder. It seemed that demonic forces were at work in Linan.

THE HIDDEN DRAGON OF CHEKIANG
Quan Xian, Celestial Emperor of Chekiang
DIPLOMACY: Tzukan(nt)
The Dragon took Tai Ko's murder seriously and spared no expense to find the murderer or murderers and bring them to justice. The case remained a mystery and eluded even the best detectives. Some wizards lost their lives in the caves underneath Linan where blood trails were found. The diplomatic team turned heads in mountainous Tzukan. Gold was sent to Ciao for their wheat.

THE CIAO CHINESE KINGDOM
To Loi, King of the Northern Prefectures
DIPLOMACY: none
Cities were everywhere. Three popped up this turn. One in Bandao (Pa Artu, the port). Another in Liaotung (Tating on the road). The last in Parhae (Liaoyang at the road's terminus). Six expanded: Choulu (8), Chinao (6), Fulao (3), Wileng (3), Yenching (8) and Tatung (8). Everyone was happy. Songs were sung and flowers were flung.

THE NIHON EMPIRE
Tenno Kugushina, 87th Emperor of Nihon, Descendent of Amaterasu
DIPLOMACY: Suifenhe(t), Tumin(a)
The building of Nencha port in Tumin made the tribe there allied. Roads from Yamaguchi to Yonago and the one from Kyoto to Toyama's port were finished. Hoginja and Sunto each grew to 2 Gpv. Ikennekmu was restored to city status. The Hojo regent Sumatsoga died. His son Tsogamuri took over that job.

The Royal Confederation Mounted Police (RCMP), dressed in red, blessed by priests, wearing eagle feathers in their hats, kept the bad guys from stealing sugar sticks from children. THE CNORIG COLONY OF NYDANIA

DIPLOMACY: none
The Cnorigs landed in Yokuts in 1462, they captured and sacked Nihlekt and secured the countryside in short order. A rich and powerful Skaerling Kingdom ruled here but these natives didn't offer any conflict. As the people were rounded up to be killed (not much resistence, all were sick), their possessions were taken and were placed in a huge pile to be later sorted through. By the end of 1464, the land of Yokuts was no more. The new Catholic settlers called their home Nydania.
