Next Turn's Orders Due: Friday, 6 September 1996

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mercantile Combine Notes: I now have automated the Mercantile Combines's NMV to be 5% higher than normal nations. I have fixed a little problem in the MerCom's ITV calculation which will give MerCom's a greater income through trade.
* I have knocked down Religious Empires NMV down 5% to balance things out.
* To accomodate the MerCom's ability to handle trade routes for other nations, I have added three new Trade Route Codes.
Land Trade MerCom (ltm): If you are using a Mercom to handle your land trade, this is the code I will use. If the trade partner does not border your nation, I will count the number of regions away from your border to their border. If this number exceeds your trade range, you 'll get less income. Mercom handled land trade is multiplied by .85, which is slightly better than Land Trade Open Terrain (lto). The Mercom gain as their fee for their troubles, a bonus of 30% of what you are making from this route (This approximates the difference between the MerCom's NMV and your NMV). To open such a route, the Mercom must have at least a branch office in your territory and a branch office in the prospective trade partner's office. This trade can be interdicted by intervening countries or armies.
Land Trade Caravan (ltc): If you are on the recieving end of a Land Trade by MerCom route (ltm) and have not made a contract with a MerCom to handle your route, your route will be considered ltc if you do not border the trade partner nor can trade with them in any other way. This kind of route is multiplied by .5 and will be reduced if the number of regions your partner is exceeds your trade range.
* If you have any region along the Silk Road, you can trade with non-contigious nations also on the Silk Road with ltc.
MerCom Sea Trade (mst): This is a MerCom handled sea route. It is like Normal Sea Trade (nst) in all ways except the Mercantile Combine handles the arrangements. Using Mercantile Combines can allow nations to reach distant overseas trade partners. Like Land Trade MerCom (ltm), the Combine will receive a bonus of 30% of the money you make. MerComs require a branch office at your port if you desire their services to trade.
* If you want to open up a MerCom, this is the time to jump in!

Leader Intel Restrictions: Leaders can attempt to perform any assassin action (like assassination, counter assassination, terrorism, jailbreak, crush rebellion), , but not regular operations actions. They cannot do religion operation actions either. Leaders can move secretly though, and perform RECON actions.

Gobbu V, Alem Kitar, King of Aethiopia
DIPLOMACY: none
Prince Dalani picked up the Quada and Wau garrisons and with them and his veterans attacked and militarily converted the Kredans to Coptic Christian. Sadly he was out of town when Ben Burado died. The palace was not afun place to be after the funeral. Forno, Naramatus and Mech staged a coup overthrowing the loyalists Aster and Surr. The junta could not decide which of them should be the head honcho so Gobbu, son of Gobbu who was the eldest son of Natentil who was Ben Burado's father, steped up and prevailed upon the bickering generals. One by one, the royal convinced them that he would ride in a new age of glory for the Aethiopians. That left Dalani out in the cold (or the heat of the savanna). Only five western regions broke away with Dalani. The great bulk of the Lion Empire stayed with Alem Kitar and his machine. Dunqunab grew to 9 Gpv.

Arturo, Rex Lagobardum
DIPLOMACY: Verona(f), Switzerland(f)
To subsidize the Medici, the Ligurians allowed the MABCOL to handle their trade routes with India, Arabia, Abyssinia and Scandanavia. The MABCOL had yet to build the infrastructure needed to handle these (To test the new Mercom scripts, the Medici are temporarily handling Ligurian trade with the city of Rome). All the government transports were refurbished as private boats so the Medici can take them when they were ready. The plan to establish a presence in India was stopped by the Africans who blockaded Aswan. There were riots in Aswana but the isolated city remained loyal. The sea route to Chalukyas was cut off. The navies did not deal with this - they were busy in the Atlantic. The sea route to Madiera was completely mapped. Guillano was given a lot of money and was sent to the West African coast. He never came back.

Romer Cnorig didn't want to stay. He wanted to go to the New World paradise, which had claimed so many other adventurers. He sacked and looted København and Malmo and razed Zealand, Skane, Norway and Svealand while he and his ships and troops departed. They could only take half the Kollegium - there were too many books. The Eystein let them go. In 1455-6 reclaimed all of the regions that they had: Agder, Gautland, Halland, Norway, Skane, Svealand, Uppland and Zealand.
