RULES USED IN THIS GAME This campaign uses the ThroneWorld's 5th Edition Revised Rulebook (v.5.10.0) and the Modern Rules Supplement (v3.3.4). Also, I've made EXTENSIVE changes and clarification to these rules - all listed on the Rule Notes web page. These notes are added and tweaked every time I come across something that I think needs to be clarified or *gasp* changed, although, if it seriously negatively effects players, I'd probably give them some warning. BTW, the 6.0 rule set is coming.

OBTAINING THE 5TH EDITION RULEBOOK: The Rule Notes web page contains links to the rulebook's - free PDF downloads!

     Koduduwa rested on his laurels.

THE HARAZE HORDE
Kemupta, Lord of the Sahara
Diplomacy: None
The Haraze waited in Danakil, soaking up the sun. Joshua of Faya died in 1566, and half of the horde slinked away into the night, in ones and twos, no threat to their Aethiopian hosts.

South and East Africa

THE BANTU KINGS OF OKOYO
Obenga, Da King of Okoyo
Diplomacy: None
Yhombi-Opango defended Boma while Obenga took the throne in Okoyo. [See Saxonia].

THE GREAT ZIMBABWE
T'Cham'Ki, Chief of Zimbabwe, Holder of the Five Twin Jackal Chair
Diplomacy: Lesser Zimbabwe(c) Sion(nt) Xai Xai(ea) Mozambi(A)

THE KRAKAS EMPIRE OF AETHIOPIA
Samuel I, Alem 'Elum, Emperor of Aethiopia
Diplomacy: Harar(fa) Ain Farah(A) Maureg(t) Ras Hafun(fa) Gondar(F) Ilubabor(ea) Berbera(A)
Samuel added more lieutenants to the mix and continued to increase his siege capabilities. A squad of ten thousand elite cavalry was garrisonned in the capital in case the Haraze or any other invader should make it that far. At the most amazingly well funded university in the world, students were rioting, protesting the high tuition and government corruption. Samuel put down the revolt before they were able to foster further anarchism.
The port facilities were expanded and more monopolies were granted to il Sindacato Grande Orientale Commércio. Permission was granted for As Shirki al Bahri al Basra, ISGOC, and the Hidden Dragon to harbour in any Krakas port.
Lionel snuck around Meroe sniffing and sniffing but finding nothing but a head cold while Admiral Darsha sailed from Tobruk to distant Akwila and back to exchange troops with the garrison there. Lord Kusti died in 1565 and the city joined the Empire.

North Africa

Imad ibn Khalid, Sultan of MahidiaTHE SULTANATE of IEST
Imad ibn Khalid, Sultan of Mahidia
Diplomacy:Akrakos(fa)
Siege and Warship techniques were invested in while gold and missionaries were sent off to Kornland. The ports of Tunis and Tripoli were expanded. Suleiman came of age as hier while his sister Mayssun was wed to Lieutenant Abdul Aziz, who sailed off to the New World to cultivate the lands of Caquetio, completing the job. He heard about some radical Catholics across the Cariaco Sea late in 1567.
Trade with Ingland was cut without reason. Old Admiral Yasir died attempting to explore a route to the Maldives. Italians with odd oriental accents were caught snooping around the barracks. Several other men moved about the homeland, joining new regiments and training for war with the evil Chekiang.
The Iest joined their Andalusian brethren in advancements.

THE ALMORAVID EMIRATE of ANDALUSIA
Anbar al Saladin ibn Kadir, Emir as Sevilla
Diplomacy: Kazmedina(c) Haiti(fa) Jaen(c) Takrur(nt)
The Emir expanded the number of missionaries he could send out as well as sending several to Catawba to join with the Iest missionaries already there. Jahmel was killed after a particularly bad speech to the Timuca nobles.
The Emirate gained the ability to add steam power to their wooden ships!

CASABLANCA WESTERN HAWALA OVERSEAS MERCHANT PROTECTIVE COMPANY
Vic Torlazlo, Merchant of Casablanca
Capitalization: None
The Merchants paid their clients, but not double this time. Fariz ibn Tazik and Hec Torlazlo left the city to the Basra company.

EUROPE
Western Europe

THE KINGDOM OF MORAY
Alasdair Mac Donald of Islay, ifth Lord of the Isles, Lord of Argyll and Kintyre, Earl of Ross, Captain of Clan Donald, Ri Innse Gall
Diplomacy: Lancaster(HS)
Conan was amazed that the small amount of gold invested would pay off so quickly that he now frets for the future cost of his new infrastructure. Possibly the Great Church would not need to supply their scribes any longer. He stepped down without incident when young Alasdair grew to manhood.
In the Highlands, Conleth looked quite silly with his "Official Moray Helmet" on.

Dharr Ralif ibn Abdullah, Sword of Sayyidina AliTHE SULTANATE OF INGLAND
Dharr Ralif ibn Abdullah, Sword of Sayyidina Ali
Diplomacy: Cibony(c)
The Sultan make is clear in his every speech, "I don't care what my young hot-headed sons think, this nation is still dedicated to Islam." He instructed his son Prince Valiant to escort the Holy Man from Anglia, now known as Walter Stepborough, to Ciboney in the New World. The Sultan added more men to his general staff. Abaas Nashat died in Lienster before he could launch an attack on Connaught.
Tireless-in-Faith, newly converted to Roman Catholicism, took more than thirty-five hundred men to besiege the walls of Ipswich. Even though the port was poorly led, it is quite a large city, so it took Les most of the season to capture it. The Sultan took up residence in a high tower of the city to rule his domain. With a small garrison, the city very nearly revolted from Dharr when Les left.
Les continued on to attack Wessex. Despite brilliant leadership, the defenders were beaten quickly by the elite forces of the Sultanate and a lucky break in the twilight hours. Emboldened by his victories, Les moved on the capital, joining with Icabod Green, who had recently unloaded another thousand men, fresh from their tour of duty on the Mediterranean.
Elsut stood tall, with mighty walls, built to withstand armies ten times the size of Les and Icabod's, but the Sultanate's forces had several tricks up their sleeves, including knowing many of the cities weak spots. As the battle wore on, it became apparant that it wasn't the weak spots or any tricks Les may have had, but simply the fact that the revolutionaries had a terrible grasp of their command. After the second wave of the siege, Les received word that that command had been stripped away allowing the capital to be recaptured.
Jaraah bin Zulfaqar talked to the Londoners, trying to convince them that "They got it all wrong" and that they'd better rejoin the Sultanate before the "Big Guns" arrive. He was surprised by the religious fervor in the olde towne.

THE KINGDOM OF NORMAN FRANCE
Francoi le Faible, Regent to the Kings of the Saxons and of the Normans, Count of Blois
Diplomacy: Valladolid(F) Tours(ea)
Francois continued to rule the Empire, despite Robert's obvious impatience. Under his leadership, warships quality and religious intensity increase. Saxonia siege power ranks the best in the world. He expanded Paris and commanded that more than twenty-five thousand men should form up into various new battalions, as well as doubling the number of field fortifications in Catalonia, making it possibly the most well defended region in all of Europe. Rutters were delivered to the Pope, Italy, and the Medici, while trade was cut with the Anglish Isles.
For his part, Robert married Francesca di Medici in a fabulous ceremony in 1565, the dowry for which was the hiring of all European and Mediterranean mercenaries for three years. Within a year, Tiphani had a new baby sister. Sadly, Robert died in a tragic accident in October of 1566 while surveying the work being done to the walls of Paris.
The Vicomte de Valmont attempted to arrange a marriage for Robert in Valladolid, but the city nobles knew that Robert had already wed the daughter of a Medici. This did not help with his diplomacy.
In Africa, Jean Guistianni went home with the waitress, then landed with colonists, guns, and money. Salvatore Romani from Italy was on had along with several mercenaries from the Med as well as West Africa. The Italians assisted Jan O'Hara in the assault of Boma, blowing the walls away as if they were cutting butter. After taking the city, Jan took his forces out to convert the pagans by sword. Jan commanded that the ships he arrived on would be used in the colonization of the Kongo.
After leaving a garrison of Medici Mercenaries, Jan pushed up the coast, taking Teke and Douala before putting the hurt on Dogubu. With the capture of the Okoyo government, the Okoyo itself began to disintegrate. Young Obenga had no resources to control his kingdom from Kikongo. Several regions and cities quickly became independant of the failing kingdom, trying to arm themselves against the Imperialists...

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Pius V, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Servant of the Servants of God, Supreme Pontiff on the Universal Church
Consecration: None
The Pope gladly accepted grain shipments from several of his loyal adherants. He added more capable missionaries for the works to be done in Gods' name.

THE REPUBLIC OF ITALY
Filippo de Reggio, King of the Freestate
Diplomacy: Romagna(A) Tarantum(nt) Bari(F)
Julietta spent her time at Reggio in discussions with the Republic's feudal ally, in between her pregnancies. She had two daughters in as many years, but died painfully in 1567 a year before her son Guiseppe turned 16. With the assistance in Africa, the Republic learned a few things about siege from the Saxonians.

Marco d'Medici, Guildmaster of MediciTHE MEDICI SYNDICATE
Marco d'Medici, Guildmaster of Medici
Diplomacy: Latium(mf) Tuscany(ma) Munster(F)
Marco disbanded the eight thousand man army at Barcelona, a full two thirds of the Medici's standing forces. Routes with Ingland were cut, and the transports on those routes converted to wartime purposes in Porto and Wyst. Frederico di Medici sailed those transports along with 90% of the Syndicate's armed forces to assault the jungles of Marampa. Far away from home, it was by shear luck that Frederico was wounded in the battle, and so would not make a claim to be guildmaster this year.
The effects of removing all fishing fleets in 1564 hit hard in 1567. Most of the merchant house degraded in one form or another as the tax situation continued to suffer, putting cartel trade with the Roman Empire in jeopardy. Marco took out a loan from the Catholic bankers in order to pay his clients.

Phillip Rheinhold, Grand Doge of HelveticaTHE EMPIRE OF HELVETICA
Phillip Rheinhold, Grand Doge of Helvetica, The Valiant, Defender of Order, Overseas Emperor
Diplomacy: Venezia(+6yfc) Champagne(A) Sancelade(A) Bastilica(fa-to Corsica)
Phillip expanded his leader pool and initiated several large projects, mostly including road networks, including one connecting with the Thaery. The bulk of his energies were spent on ensuring that his men in the New World were well funded in order to purchase all available native condotierri. The Mercain were surprised by the turn of events. [See Mercain]
The Shetlands revolted when they learned their liege had died overseas.
In other news, the Empire advanced up the tech tree!

THE NORDIK EMPIRE OF THAERY
Erland, King of the Danes
Diplomacy: Reykyavik(nt) Westphalia(fa) Oslo(ea)
Erland focused on trying to keep his Empire in one piece as the famine raged, Iceland and Gronland revolted. He had gold in crates waiting deliveries from Saxonia and Baltica. He built a couple very large fleets to fish the North Sea and the Baltic. Fleets based in Vigo were also ordered to fish. Finally, the King of the Danes cut trade with Ingland.
The famine threatens to take down the Danes, while their technology increases.

Eastern Europe

THE GRAND DUCHY OF CRACOW
Krzysztof, Blackjack Duke of Cracow, the King of the Polka and Bochnia
Diplomacy: Pinsk(c) Bialoweza(F) Ozu(t) Prussia(+2yfc) Cherven(+6yfc)
The Grand Duke expanded the government and concentrated all manpower on the projects started in his childhood. Intelligence support aided the Cracow diplomats. Baltican spies were caught sniffing around the barracks.

THE EMPIRE OF BALTICA
Villem, Emperor of Baltica, Prince of Novgorod
Diplomacy: Vitebsk(F) Kama Bolgar(A)
Pavel continued to invest in his royal road network, completing a bridge across the lower Dvina into Daugava. Administratively, the Emperor conducted a royal census.
Late in 1567, Villem's younger twin brothers, now each fifteen years old, rescued Villem from the high dungeon prison that had been his home for the past six years. The three young men were able to slip through the castle undetected to enter the resident wing and murder Pavel's wife and eight year old daughter Tiina, and finally Pavel himself. On the morning, as the housekeepers entered the throneroom to dust, they found Villem with the bloody crown of his father on his head, with his brothers Maartin and Piotr at his side, and his sisters Leelo and Lissa at his feet. Chaos ensued.
Reval and Kama Bolgar revolted, but in Kama Bolgar, diplomat Sacha was on hand to convince them to remain loyal to Pavel, through the armies of his and General Boris - the Baltican Cavalry, some twenty-seven thousand horse strong. Hans was not as convincing with Johann of Reval. Hans rode to the capital, and was nearly able to sway the army, but was caught by Piotr, and then crippled on the rack.
Prince Jesper of Kirivich, a rightful claimant to the throne through marriage to Villem's aunt Laika, marched on the capital as well. In the battle of wills, he suffered the same fate as Hans before him. This left just old Stepan of Suzdal in the face of Sacha, Boris, Jaak, and the Kama Bolgar.

THE EMPIRE OF BALTICA - South
Sacha, Emperor of Baltica, Prince of Novgorod
Diplomacy: Kama Bolgar(A)
Sacha, Boris, Jaak, and the Kama Bolgar wiped out old Stepan in Suzdal.

THE DIHAJ EMPIRE
Phereak, Regent of Dihaj
Diplomacy: Togortak(F) Khazar(fa)
D'harak pushed his government beyond it's limit, gaining a new lieutenant and more power. After spending time working with the merchants at Togartak, the 61 year old Khan died. Phereak picked up the Dihaj troops and vowed to protect the Empire until young Turuk comes of age in five years.

THE ROMAN EMPIRE - Phormion Dynasty
Stavros Phormio, Imperator Romanus, Basileus of Constantinople
Diplomacy: None
Stavros pushed the naval quality to the maximum and continued to pump gold and men into the New World colony. Closer to home, Donets received some attention as well. All the other action was further east.

ASIA
The Middle East

THE YEZIDI CALIPHATE
Masud, Regent of Baghdad, Amiiru l-mu'miniin
Diplomacy: None
Masud contemplated the forces around him and taught young Yusef a thing or two. The Yezidi would no longer pay any kind of tribute to the Basra.

LAHILLA PRIMACY OF ISLAM
Soroush abd Allah, Caliph al Islam
Consecration: Algarve(ch) Lebanon(ch) Aleppo(ch) Antioch(ch)
Paltry sums turned into huge gains for Soroush in most areas of investments, importantly in the government sector. He had some success among the Isles.
Choda Boy, er, Shamil was fed to the fishes in Edessa, thus ending his string of successful mosque consecrations, see?

THE BURNING SWORD EMPIRE
Emperor Hammad I Abu-Hassan, Grand Emperor of the Sword, most faithful follower of Allah
Diplomacy: Georgia(HS)
Old Hammad increased a bit of the informant resources and then spent the bulk of the empire's wealth on funding new troops in the homeland. Ten thousand heavily armed men were added to General Mohamed, doubling his large formations defending the capital. Once again, Hammad granted permission for the Iesti Sultanat, the Roman Empire, and the Yezidi Calipate for their troops, supply lines, ports, etc. Such a trusting soul.
At Chah Bahar, Hammad heard the reports back from the front line. General Nauteus with a little more than twenty-eight thousand heavy infantry and elite cannon found that the walls of the city were still quite tall, and manned by thirty-eight thousand Chinese, elite heavy cavalry and another forty-seven thousand mixed Hidden Dragon mercenaries. This did not deter the Romans, despite the efforts of mutinous agents. By the end of the first wave, they had dished out more than three times the damage inflicted, mostly mercenary losses.
At this point, May 1565, the Africans arrived under the command of Salman with an additional twenty-six thousand men of equal skill in the art of seige. Inside the city, Lieutenant Hei Go had to deal with a Sunni uprising, leaving the defense of the city to the mercenaries while he put down the revolt. A small Iesti fleet was sunk in the Chah Bahar harbor. Not known for his tactical brilliance, Hei Go had a hard time of it. But this gave Lun Ang and Achyuta freedom to defend the walls without his inneptitude holding them down. Unfortunately, as it seems to goes with most condotierri, they didn't live up to their expectations. They barely held the walls as reinforcements streamed in from the sea, Lun Ang seeing his last day.
Wang Badan arrived in July, while the city was under full siege. He unloaded more than twenty-five thousand heavy elite infantry, relieving Hei Go when all looked darkest. Amazingly, Wang was born under a lucky star and this turned the tide [rolled a 9 vs a 1]. His presense and the loss of more than half the allied forces led the Romans and Iesti to break off the siege.
Later that year, General Nauteus died, leaving his forces in the hands of lieutenant Nemos. In Chah Bahar Hei Go died, leaving all forces in the hands of Wang Badan.

Faruk Aslan, Kalifat Rasul Allah, Captain General of the Basra Overseas Trade CompanyAS SHIRKI AL BAHRI AL BASRA (SBB)
Faruk Aslan, Kalifat Rasul Allah, Captain General of the Basra Overseas Trade Company
Capitalization: Maniak(mf) Chernigov(ma) Novgorod(ma) Port Alamut(mf) Jerusalem(mf)
Diplomacy: Berbera(t) Corona(t-still) Adana(fa) Gurgan(HS) Khwarzim(nt)
Faruk increased his trade efficiency by adding more bureaucrats to the home office. Other efficiencies of the nefarious sort were gained as well. Sending the latter to root out suspected infiltrators in the military, the losses were minimal, but it was too late that he learned it was a wild goose he was chasing. Finally, Faruk saw the company move from a Guild economy into a Free economy, promising greater profits for all.
Trader Bagher Frada and Saber Noir sailed to Belam in South America to talk with Omar Nasr, but he saw no profit in their words. [GM NOTE - Diplomacy only might work on Non-Played Open Nations, not any other nation type.]
Captain Tolga Nefus with the assistance of Joseph Abung and the East Africans informed Hec Torlazlo that they would take the enterprises in Casablanca and he had no choice but to comply.
Novgorod revolted as it was too far from any SBB factories. Khwarzim and Port Alamut, also.

Persia - Central Asia - India

THE BOGAZGOL KHANATE
Zargan I, Khan of Tabaristan
Diplomacy: Kumis
Zargan II lent his sword to the doomed defense of Kumis and Rayy.

THE KHVOR SHAHDOM
Kanaan of the Khvor
Horde Diplomacy: None
Kanaan and his son rode north into Kumis to set up the western edge of his new empire. The defenders were surprisingly well led and initially repulsed the horde, forcing a good order retreat. All remaining defenders fled behind the walls of Rayy. When the Khvor assaulted the city, Zargan's first lieutenant was taken prisoner. The city was sacked and then put to the torch.
Kanaan rode into Dasht Kavir to extract tribute. Nearly fifty thousand fanatic Shi'ites killed the desert king and panicked all defenders. In the summer of 1566 the Khvor destroyed the Khurasan. Nishapur was set upon soon thereafter. Leaving the city in flames, the horde headed south to Kuhistan. Kanaan's son Khaleel died in the attack. So sad. Kanaan burned Kalai-mor to the ground and was last seen heading back to Khurasan.

Medin I, Master of Kaunaj, Emperor of RajputTHE HARAYUK RAJPUT EMPIRE
Medin Chandravara, Master of Kaunaj, Emperor of Rajput
Diplomacy: None
Medin increased the Empire's trade range and sent lots more gold to the Sindacato and the Burning Sword for war funds. After protecting the homeland, the master was saddened by the loss of his bride.
Prince Devagya along with Ulanjar of Multan and a couple leiutenants joined in Afghanistan with over fifty thousand men and guns to pacify the region in preparation for Harayuk colonists. They ended up forcing tribute from Seistan in 1567.

Diplomacy: No Effect
Chirrati added manpower to his bodyguard.

South-East Asia

THE GATOTKACA OF ANGORA
Daginada, Sengkuni Khan
Diplomacy: None
Daginada influenced the merchants, freeing up room to trade with the Nippon. Resources were sent to Arakan and Luzon, while explorers found the Okinawa flow.
A minor functionary embezzeled from the treasury, cutting into the Angora investments.

THE VIET VICEROYALTY OF MAKASSAR
Marwan Ya, Regent, Viceroy of Makassar
Diplomacy: Kepeluan(fa) Atjeh(ea) Sumba(nt) Ponape(nt)
Makassar artillery craft improved as well as phat ninja skills. Hasanuddin married Marwan Ya after finding her older sister barren. Two sets of twins made him a happy Viceroy. Achmad Sukarsono sailed out to the east of Kwajalein, on a good wind...
Lampung dropped to tributary on the death of the Makassar ally. The Asiatic famine spread to the southern isles leading to massive revolts. Hasanuddin thought it would be easier to count the parts of the Viceroyalty that didn't revolt. Several cities revolted simply because they had no defenses against the regional revolutionaries. Some disloyal lieutenants among the revolutionaries chose this time to exit as well. Hasanuddin had to personally put down the revolt in the capital, but in a surprising and deadly twist, he was killed in the final battle on the palace steps. His will was to have Marwan Ya act as regent for his young sons.
Things went from bad to worse (some say that influences from Gatotkaca that were reverse inflitrating Makassar's infiltration did it) as some powers in the government made a power play. Due to the territory loss due to famine, the remaining disloyal leaders, Tannah Benoa and Atur Angka, as well as the nameless feudal allies from Aden and Morondava could find no support for a march on the capital. This left Marwan Ya with a supported regency, and the dynasty would survive.

Mathew was killed while attempting to establish relations with the people of Cochin. Sadly, Benjamin was too late to save him. Master Po established a factory in the capital of the Krakas Empire, but failed to gain preferential trade treatment.
The new agent in Norholm closed up shop, due to the distance from Candle-on-Water.
Gabriel patrolled the Red Sea for Pirates and defended the western assets of the ISGOC.

The General marched to Sekiu to add more men and a few horse to bring the total to four thousand. Then he marched to Yakima country to join up with Kahupatiwa at the Summer Soltice.
By the middle of May 1567, the forces of the Empire were attacking twenty-five hundred Timishian barbarians. Kahupatiwa severly hindered Orca's tactics, blundering several times. But the General was able to retire in good order back to Kwakiutl with few losses.

BONNY KINGDOM OF MERCAIN
Lord White Horse, Elder King of the Land, Sword of the Vanished Tribes
Diplomacy: None
Lord White Horse knew his work was cut out for him but was surprised when he heard that the Helveticans were attacking Malecite! He held fast in Abenaki in case they chose to cross the mountains, knowing his cavalry would do no good in the heavily forested eastern province. His fears were realized in the spring of 1566 as more than eight thousand of Phillip's men marched across the northern Appalachians. From the south, three thousand paid mercenaries under the command of Qlygm of the Shetlands, and from the north, Trakehner Al Jisr blocaded supported the battle from the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Lord White Horse had the upper hand with a mostly cavalry based army in his homeland, while the Helveticans had much better trained infantry. The later proved the day as the Mercain fled the in disorder. The king rallied his men behind the walls of New Katharine, shocked that all of his lieutenants were slain.
Soon the purpose of Trakehner's fleet became all too clear as the blocade and passive siege of New Katharine began. Food supplies would not last the winter of 1567 and by spring the capital of Mercain was in the hands of Phillip.
