Turn 27 Orders Due Back By:
Announcements
IMPORTANT: I found a bug in the stat database dealing with Feudal Allies. The program was incorrectly figuring out how much troop support was. Instead of multiplying the FA’s support cost by 0 (making FA troops free) it was multiplying the support cost by –10. The end result was that some people had a negative troop support. Some people may notice a jump in troop support because of this correcting. If you are one of those people contact me, we will work something out.
If you know of anyone who is looking to join a game, send them to me. ; I’d like to get some of the newly opened nation filled, as well as some not so apparent positions filled also.
This Turn’s Music …
As made traditional in other LOTE games. The Turn from Hell award will be awarded to the player whose turn gave me the largest headache. J
Lord: James Oakley, Played one turn and brought the Cibola (Hopewell)
up 7 notches, and then dropped

NPN to slip down
Rules Errata and Reminders
Trading changes: Ok a few changes coming up that you should all know about. First off I have been a bit lenient on the rule that you can have up to 20x the GPV of the city. Which means in for have a level 1 city you can only have 20 MSP (total, not perm trade route) of trade. The following list is of what type of transports and how many MSP they have, this is a change for some people
Tithe Income: If you're paying a tithe to a Religious Primate and the rate of the tithe is less than 5% then there is no effect to you; you do not lose any money. If the rate of the Tithe is greater than 5%, then you lose 1% of Tax Rate for each percentage point of the tithe over 5.
Elite troops: They are available to be built/trained when you achieve tech level 5 or greater, this represents how well your troops are versed in combat
Slaves on ships: After some thought and discussions there is a change on slaves and their movements. While on Transports or warships, the ships will move their normal BAC a turn, instead of the 2 BAC that slave’s get.

Diplomacy: Denmark (F)
Hrolfgarson locked himself in his study and would not come out for almost 6 months. When he came out he had in his hand an old tattered book. He rushed to his balcony and addressed a small crowed who happened to be milling around.
Hrafnkel, heir to the thrown of the Norse proved his manhood by leading a large army (20,000 Infantry, 1,000 Bow men, 3,500 Light Infantry) into Poland and looted every region they owned. When he arrived home he was grief-stricken by the fact that Halfdan, a long time friend had been killed.
Hrolf was sent to Stonehenge to see what he could see, there he on a whim started digging in the center of the stones he found a sickle made of a black substance.
Halfdan was found murdered in the winter of 984AD. The knife, which was still in his heart, had a note wrapped around the hilt, which read…

Kingdom of Aquitaine - W
King Fillipo, King of Spain, rightful ruler of the Spanish
Empire
Diplomacy: None
Emingo slave raided Poitou and was camped in Gascony in May of 982AD when his scouts told him that the Norman's landed on the beach. Quickly Emingo ran to get a count and his blood froze from the sight, 36,500 Pike men, 2,500 siege troops, 6,500 Cavalry, 10,000 royal Cavalry, and 7,500 Bow men were with Robert, Ned, and Dirk. The mercenaries also showed up with 4,000 Infantry, and 1,500 Siege, all this was not counting the massive fleet he saw. Emingo was brave but not stupid, he freed the slaves and ran to Aquitaine to warn his king.
Gascony was looted and in August the Norman's started to head to Aquitaine, and at the same time a large Norman force came up from Valencia and were sieging Barcelona with 25,000 Infantry and 2,000 siege troops. Fillipo sat in his new capital and saw the writing on the wall, but was not going to give up without a fight. Messages were sent south to his new found friends the Idrisids, and also requested help was sent to the Eastern Orthodox Primacy.
May 983 the Norman army from Gascony showed up in Aquitaine and started to loot the countryside. King Fillipo called all troops to his city and prayed that help would arrive before the Norman's did, but his prayers went unanswered. The siege of Cortez was short, Jabo, Fillipo's son lead his 9,000 Infantry, 3,000 Archer's, 1,500 siege, and 2,000 Cavalry in defense of the city, but there was just too many Norman's, in the battle Fillipo was killed and Jabo was captured when the City fell. Dirk from Flanders died in the battle on the Norman's side.

Roman Republic - W
President Ricardo, Head of the Senate
Diplomacy: Lombardy (F), Provence (F)
Ricardo spent his time in the good life, lounging at home, going over the tax reports on the increased income his leadership has brought, having more children to do his bidding in later years, and all the good stuff the rich and power do. Lombardy joined Rome, as did Provence.
The ally leader from Romagna died, his son took over the position.
The town of Florence in Tuscany expanded into a city, and Kron in Romagna was expanded.
Byzantine Empire - W
Emperor Alexandra, Destroyer of the Catholics
Diplomacy: Orthodox Church at 45%, Attica (EA)
The royal navy swelled in size to 500 warships and was sent out to hunt for the Rus fleet. Byzantine intelligence suggested that the Rus Fleet may be in port in Crimea sitting around, and they were right. The battle was quick and deadly, the Rus having the advantage of smaller size with more speed, but the brute force, surprise, and sheer numbers were on the Byzantine side. The Rus were handed their only defeat on the Sea ever, losing their entire warship fleet, with only 15 light transports surviving because they went up river, where the Byzantine war fleet was not able to follow. The Byzantine lost their 25 Heavy Destroyer class ships, and 25 warship and most of the rest of the fleet takings some minor damage sailed home for repairs.
Marcus spent 3 years discussing with Father Elias the idea of the church and the Byzantine Empire merging into one mighty force to fend off the infidels to the south and north. He was making great progress until he slipped at the top of the stairs and broke his skull and died from the fall
Emperor Alexandra was found dead in his bed in the spring of 984, while his death appeared to have been from natural causes there is some suspicion that the Rus may have killed him. The royal family's sigil ring, which has been in the family for more then 150 years, was missing.

Ragnar, The River Raider, Wolf of the North
Diplomacy: None
Ragnar was proud that his son was able to sneak out of the Byzantine prison, but was shamed by Ulfdar's inability to sink their navy. What kind of Viking looses to the civilized weenies in war?!?
Erick couldn't believe his luck being able to break the shackle's that
those Byzantine dogs put him in. They will pay for their deeds, he thought
as he continued to lurk in the shadows looking for a way out of the prison.
They must have used some iron from the some merchant who was lining his
purse by selling poor quality ore's. He heard talking, coming from a hallway
to the left, quickly he moved back to an alcove a few feet back and hoped
that they would not see him in the shadows. He reached the front gate without
any more close calls and left the castle and headed towards the city where
there was a boat that would bring him closer to home.
